Oletta M. Baxley, age 91, of Rehobeth, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at her Extendicare residence following an extended illness. She was a patient for 4 years. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Rehobeth Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Free and Rev. Charles Littlefield officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight. Mrs. Baxley will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service time on Friday. Mrs. Baxley was born Dec. 17, 1910, in the Big Creek Community near Rehobeth. She was married to the late Mr. Hilton Baxley for 59 years, while living on a farm in Rehobeth. While in Extendicare, she won Miss Extendicare and came in third at state competion in Birmingham. Oletta enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a member of The Taylor Quilting Club. She was also a member of The Rehobeth Baptist Church. Mrs. Baxley is survived by her three children: James and Shirley Baxley, Hadlock, WA., Linda and Ronald Norris, Rehobeth, Ala. Betty and Tom Ferguson, Rehobeth, Ala. Oletta is also survived by one brother, Mr. R. Q. McAllister of Columbus, Ga., she has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be Elijah Branton, Lamar Ward, Ronnie Giles, David Amyx, Terry Pines, Russell McAllister, and Carlton Baxley.
