Dear Kaye,
I tried to email to the email address you listed but it was returned as undeliverable. My email address is midds3rd@gmail.com. This is going through my husband's email address for some reason.
So Amy Baxter Reames was your grandmother. I knew your grandmother and we wrote back and forth a bit. She was the one who copied off pages from the family bible for me. She even sent me some pictures. I called her Aunt Amy even though in reality she was my great great aunt. She was very helpful genealogy-wise. My Great Grandfather, Alexander Marvin Baxter, Sr was her brother. My grandfather is Alexander Marvin Baxter, Jr. His only daughter, Mildred, is my mother.
My husband and I went to Alabama in July 2006 and did some genealogy research there. I looked for John David Baxter and the only information I can find is second hand about him. Like the census records report on his children that their father was born in Alabama. I cannot seem to verify the John Baxter's I find in other census records are him. I have suspected that perhaps he was born in another state and Tennessee is a definite possibility. When we were in Alabama, we went to several cemeteries in Talladega County, Calhoun County, and Cleburne County looking for him (and others) but there are a lot of unmarked graves. I also went to the Anniston Library and Wallace State University Library. I do believe he died about 1899 since the youngest child, Margie, was born in June 1899. He could have died late fall or winter of 1898.
I have a fair amount of information about family. my dad was pretty thorough and did a lot research and connected with a lot of people. I have carried the torch since he died in 1992.
How much info do you want? just direct line for you or are you interested in siblings and their descendants. A lot of what I have is hard copy but I have been slowly scanning and making a digital archive because I live in California and did not want everything I have (the only copy of some things) to go up in smoke. It may take me a while and I will have to send it piece meal but it would be an incentive for me to digitize more docs if you wanted them through email. I have attached some of what I already have in emailable form .
Let me know who you are interested in and I will send you what I have. You can check it out and make corrections if necessary or fill in holes if possible. (let me know if you are interested in the letters I have from Aunt Amy.)
Nice to connect with you cuz! Looking forward to working with you!
Sandy
