I am looking for information on Alexander Baxter b.December 14, 1889 and his wife, Mary McShane b. December 17, 1893. Alexander and Mary were married in Motherwell, Scotland on July 18, 1913. Mary's father was John McShane. Alexander, Mary and 7 children immigrated to Canada. Alexander in Nov of 1926 and Mary and the kids in April of 1927. I don't know any more about my great grand parents aside from their death dates. Hopefully someone knows something of this family.

Lewis was a farmer in Coventry, New York. His wife Harriet was born c. 1821. Children: James (b. 1830s), and Charles, Edgar, Juliet, Rosella (b. 1840s).

James moved to Hollis New Hampshire and married Irish girl Celia Reddy, with children William (b. 1868), James, Jr. (b. 1869), and Paul Lewis (MY GRANDFATHER, b. 1882) among others.

Can you help with any additional info, especially Lewis' father William (England?, Ireland?) and further back?

Leslie George Baxter was born September 23, 1908 on a farm near Ayrshire, IA the son of Robert and Edna (Rouse) Baxter. He attended school in Ayrshire where he also drove the school bus.
On December 30, 1930, Leslie was united in marriage to Gladys Walker in Algona, Iowa. They farmed near Ayrshire, West Bend, Ruthven, Graettinger and Lone Rock. Gladys passed away in February of 1973, and in November, Leslie retired to Emmetsburg. On April 27, 1974, he married Mamie Long in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They lived in Emmetsburg before moving to Ruthven Assisted Living in August 2002.
Leslie enjoyed farming, helping others, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
On Monday, October 20, 2008, Leslie Baxter passed away at the Ruthven Care Center. He was 100 years old. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters: Doris (Darrel) Malm of Spencer and Lucille (Don) Dammann of Estherville; five grandchildren: Dennis (Rhonda) Dammann, Denise (Jerry) Kinnetz, Darrel Baxter, Dave Malm and Don (Debbie) Malm; seven great-grandchildren: Andrea Kinnetz, Kari Colling, Cheney Dammann, Eric Dammann Camilla Malm, Jennifer Malm and Mark Malm; two great-great-grandchildren: Braxton Colling and Mackenzie Colling: brother, Rolland Baxter of Lone Rock; sister, Eythel Rowcliffe of Osage; three stepdaughters: Marlys (William) Walters of Bella Vista, AR, Gayle (Doyle) Miller of Klamath Falls, OR, and Ardyth (Alfred) Vignes of Cypress, TX. Looking for a child born of Quarry Cuthbert Baxter (1900) married to an IVY ADAWAY (1897). They married in 1921, and I am given to believe from his siblings that they had a son. He would be my first cousin if he in fact exists.

They divorced and he remarried to Ivy Florence Miller in 1928, and they had no children. His second wife had no knowledge of his first marriage!!

My greatgrandfather was James Baxter, I do not know where he originated from or anything about his family. He married Lucy Burston(186o), from Bishops Lydeard, Somerset in Oldham in 1885. They had 3 sons Elijah Joseph (my grandfather), Elisha and Elias. James died in Oldham in 1890. Lucy remarried to Francis Owen Ohara and had more children.

After family argument, came to England and is believed to have worked for travelling fairs and as a singer in the music halls in Glasgow. Parents Bernard and Ann Baxter, many siblings including twins Patrick and Kathleen(my mother-in-law) born 1910. We would love to know what happened to Jimmy. The marriage of Mr O D LeHEW and Miss Vest BAXTER occurred yesterday at 7:30 am at the house of the bride's parents in Audubon, Rev W J Meredith, pastor of the Greenfield M E church, officiating. The groom is well known as the chief clerk at Burget's store, a young man of general utility in all of the public functions of his adopted town and furthermore a young man of exemplary character and disposition. Miss BAXTER was for three years assistant principal of the Greenfield high school, but for the past year has taught in her native town of Audubon, where she was raised from childhood, and is known and respected by the entire people for her lady like character and womanly worth. Mr and Mrs LE HEW came immediately to Greenfield, where they were entertained at supper by Mr and Mrs Jesse WEST, when they repaired to the cosy home furnished and awaiting their reception. Their home is a model of fine and tasty furnishing and such as would be approved by their most solicitous friends.

I have been working on my family tree for a short time. Most of this side of my family are not living or know little of the family. I am looking for information about the PARENTS of Charles Hamilton Baxter in VA (my great-grandfather). What I do know:

Born: Sept 1866/1867 in VA
Died: Feb 1942 and buried in Norfolk, VA in Elmwood Cemetery
Married: Francis "Fannie" Orgain of Dinwiddie, VA abt. 1890/1891

In the 1900, 1920, 1930 Census states that Charles H Baxter's father was born in Virginia, but the 1910 census states that the father was born in Scotland. His mother was born in Virginia.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Hi, my name is Allison R. Baxter (or at least it was, I got married). The only thing I know about my father is that his name was Donnie Fred Baxter and that he died on Sept 1979 in a plane crash when he was in Oregon. His family ties that I know of are in Spiro, Poteau, Panama OK - LeFlore county.

I do not know anything beyond my father and I believe I have uncles on this side of the family that are looking for me and my sister. My natural grandfather's name is William Baxter, Roland Baxter, or William Roland Baxter. I believe he is burried in Spiro, OK. I hope that my uncle reads this or that one of his children reads this.

Any information you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Roger Wesley Baxter, son of Ernest W. and B. Elnora (Long) Baxter, was born February 11, 1948 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He attended school at Ayrshire Consolidated School. On June 14, 1969 Roger was united in marriage to Arlene Reed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. To this union four children were born.
Roger worked for Bob Bowman Construction in Ayrshire and later the Spencer Community School system doing construction work. For the past fifteen years Roger has been employed at Sky Jack in Emmetsburg. He was a devoted and dedicated employee that loved his work.
When Roger wasn’t working he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Roger died Monday, December 25, 2006 at his home in Ayrshire, Iowa at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest and a grandson, Trent Cummings.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Ayrshire, IA; his children, Terry Baxter of Spencer, IA and his fiancée, Shonda Burr, Annette Baxter of Ayrshire, IA, and special friend, Brian Cummings, Angela Cole and her husband, Jim of Ruthven, IA and Jerry Baxter and his wife, Tiffanie of Ayrshire, IA; seventeen grandchildren; his mother, Elnora Baxter of Emmetsburg, IA; three brothers, LaWayne Baxter of Langdon, IA, Eugene Baxter of California and Gary Baxter of South Dakota; a sister, Jacqualine Bindel of Pocahontas, IA; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Russell and Marie Reed of Emmetsburg, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Hello, I am looking for any information on my great uncle. His is John B. Baxter, he was b. abt. 1919. My grandmother is one of his sisters, Hazel Baxter. My family history research has led me to Marlboro/Marlborough in Ulster Co. Looking for anyone with connections to Grant Baxter (1863-1939) who married an Charlotte Ann Whilklow (1871-1951). By 1909 they were living in Marlboro and had 2 children.
Louella (1890-1942) and Walter Hart Baxter (1893-....?)
Louella married into my family, to a John Charles Greatorex who at that time lived in Highland Falls, Orange Co, NY.

I just started to research my family history and of course, it is harder for me to do this since the person with all the information passed away 2 years ago and the person who did the research now has alzeihmers and none of the other family members are interested in doing this. I have been writing down what I can remember when my grandmother told me things when I was younger, but now I am trying to get things into order and make sense of it all.
Right now I am stuck at a point...

Albion Baxter married a Hope ???? and had 5 children:

I have a census where they are listed in 1910 but by 1920 census, Hope is gone and Henry is living with other family members.
I would love to find out the parents of Albion Baxter b. abt 1870
I also would like to find out more on his wife, Hope....
Isabella was my great-grandmother, that much I know and she married a Richway Fredericks and then a ??? clark
Cora married a Burrell and a Bruce
Ruth married a John J sullivan and then a Richard F DeMullis but it seems that I am not finding much info right now for most of these people....

My 5ggfather Andrew McKenrick married Rachael Baxter in the Conewago Catholic Chapel at McSherrytown, Adams County, Pennsylvania on 17 May 1817 and lived in Menuallen and Franklin Township of Adams County until he died in 1870. Some family hearsay states Rachael Baxter died about 1846 but there is no written proof of this event. Has anyone found any information on a Rachael Baxter McKenrick they would like to share with me.

My Baxter line starts out with John BAXTER (b, late 1700's in Heriot). His son John married Mary SCOTT. My line follows the John Baxters down the line marrying into the following surnames: DICKSON, PRYDE, CLINGING. The movement of the family is from Heriot to Stow, MLN and then into the Borders region --Melrose, Ladhope, Galashiels.

My last Baxter is Helen, b. 1890. m. Samuel George BIDGOOD. Her older siblings were Rachel, George, John, and William, all born in the borders area. At least two of the three brothers emigrated to the New York/New Jersey area in the early 1900s. They could have been boxers or shipbuilders.

I am searching my family history. Looking for any family members. My grandfather name was Willie (William) Baxter. He moved to Portsmouth, VA with his "common law wife" Viola Johnson. They had approx. 5 children. The oldest boy was Arthur Johnson, a set of fraternal twins: Edna Johnson & Willie (Johnson) Baxter, Edith Johnson/Baxter (nickname Babie). There was possbily an older child by the name of Geraldine. My grandfather had a sister name Edith who later moved to South Carolina and another sister named Edna (no other info. on her). I was told that my grandfather, Willie Baxter, was the son of a slave owner. It appears that my grandfather and grandmother met when my grandfather moved to Southampton County, VA (Franklin/Newsom). My grandmother, Viola, had sisters name Martha & Geneva Johnson. There may have been more siblings. She also had two brothers (maybe more) named Jim and Thomas (Tom). It looks like they moved to Portsmouth, Va in the late 1930's early 1940's. My grandfather died in June/July of 1959 in Portsmouth, VA. Any information you have will be helpful. Trying to find other family members to answer a lot of family questions, etc.

My g.g.g grandfather is Samuel Baxter born ca. 1796 in Hartshore, Derbyshire. He lives most of his life, and has children with wife Mary nee Dexter, in Packington, near Ashby de la Zouch.

He's to be found in U.K.Census's 1841-1881 and is a Ag./farm Labourer. He dies in June 1881 aged 86 in Chigwell, Essex.

Hi, does anyone have any information on the Baxters that lived in Tennessee. My great grandmother was Myrtle Baxter. I believe her parents were Edie Tippett and Tom Baxter. Myrtle married John Brown (she was his second wife) in the early 1900's and had my grandmother Sarah Viola Brown in 1909. My grandmother said the Baxters were of Black Dutch descent. At the genealogy library they told me that the Black Dutch were descended from shipwrecked Spanish sailors and the people who lived in Holland. So instead of blue eyed blondes their descendents had dark hair and eyes.

Francis Baxter b. abt 1681 d. abt 1723, arrived in the colonies from Scotland about 1698 with an unknown wife...

I have records for three sons...the first of which is very questionable...the third (William) is my line...

William b. abt 1720 d.? Married Joanna (?) they had 8 children the elast of which (another William) is my line.

William b. 10 May 1761 d. 1827, married Abigail Dewey and they had 11 children. Child three (Spencer) is my line.

Spencer b. 28 MAR 1789 d. 9 OCT 1813 married (?)...one child was John Spencer Baxter, I don't know about others.

I have good infor from John Spencer Baxter on down to me, but I have no documentation for the ancestors....

Willis Baxter in Cherokee War in Alabama

My second greatgrandfather was Seneca Russell (b. 1812 in New York), supposedly the second white settler into Montmorency Township in Whiteside County. The Illinois State Archives recorded Seneca’s purchase of land in Montmorency and Hume townships in 1852; Seneca used a warrant to purchase this land.

To find out who earned Seneca’s warrant, I obtained a copy of the land patent from the very helpful county recorder in Whiteside. The original warrant was given to “Willis Baxter, Sergeant in Captain Rogers’ Company, Alabama Volunteers, Cherokee War” and “assigned to Seneca Russell.” I have no idea whether Seneca bought the warrant on the open market or whether Baxter was a relative and the warrant came to Seneca through in-family channels. I suspect that the warrant was purchased.

Seneca’s wife was Tabitha Rodgers, born in Ohio and married to Seneca in Delaware County, Ohio. I cannot trace Tabitha to any Rodgers/Rogers in Delaware or Morrow county in Ohio. So “Captain Rogers’ Company” on the warrant might be a lead to Tabitha’s family.

Baxter’s original warrant was number 297 for 160 acres. The patent was dated December 2, 1854, but I think that Seneca was in Whiteside by 1852. The patent appears to be recorded as number 12649, filed for record on 9th day of December 1912 [sic] Military Grants Vol. 11, page 344.

Perhaps someone sees Russell-Baxter connections that I do not, or perhaps some Baxter researcher is helped by seeing the patent details. I am rather puzzled by this document.

Samuel and Mary BAXTER, England

According to Harriet BAXTERS's Birth Certificate, in March 1841, her parents are stated as Samuel and Mary BAXTER (formerly Dexter) and all are "registered"/live in Packington in Whitwick, Ashby de la Zouch in County Leicester & Derby.

A search here on ancestry shows only 1 "suitable" Samuel BAXTER who may be the father of my Harriet, married to a woman called Mary - however, according to the 1841 Census they live in West Goscote, Diseworth (district 9), Leistershire. Reg. District Shardlow. My map shows the places quite a bit apart. Harriet doesn't see to have been born (although I don't know when the 1841 census was taken).

Surely I have the wrong Samuel and Mary? And if so where can I find the right ones?! Can someone help?

Looking for any details of a Daniel Baxter (b.1804)in Leicestershire and son Daniel Baxter c.1835 born in Coventry Warwickshire, they appear on 1841 and 1851 England censuses but cannot find any reference on 1861 to either of them. Any clues would be appreciated.

Son of Daniel(1835) appears on 1871 census married to Emma (Quarry)with sons William Q.,Daniel and daughter Helena Baxter.

Betty Martin died Sept. 27, 2007. She was born Feb. 23, 1917 to William and Ann (McManus) Baxter, in Klein, MT. They moved to Crawford Co., KS about 1923. Her father was a pit boss at coal mines in both areas.
Betty graduated from Arma High School in 1937, then she and her mother moved to the Chicago area to work near her siblings. There she met George Edward Hickey, whom she married on Sept. 5, 1942, in Omaha, NE. George served as a Navy mechanic in the South Pacific. Early in WWII, her extended family moved to Detroit. Their son was born there. Betty was a “Rosie the Riveter” at Dodge Motor Co.
George was only able to return to his family twice before he was injured on Guam, and died there on Aug. 31, 1945. As a young widow, Betty worked as a real estate secretary, while her mother cared for her son.
She met Castle M. Martin when dancing, one of her favorite activities. She married him Sept. 5, 1950 and they had a daughter.
In 1956 they moved to Livonia, MI, where Betty worked as a school aide after her children were grown. Mr. Martin was employed by the Ford Motor Co., until his retirement in 1974. In 1977, Betty and Cass moved to Pinellas Park, FL. Betty was a frequent volunteer at the Mainland’s Clubhouse #3. Cass died April 28, 1985.
When a small 90th birthday dinner was planned for last February, scores of her friends protested and moved it to a larger venue, so they could all celebrate with her.
Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her parents, siblings: Susan (Joe) Allai, Edward (Cora Ball), Helen (Marshall) Mattson and infant, Alice. She is survived by her son, her daughter, four grand-children, two great-grandchildren, all but one of MI, as well as nieces and nephews.
Interment will be with Mr. Martin at the Bay Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg, FL. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.

Any Infomation on Willliam A Baxter from Salamannah Scottland

My GGgrandfater was William Arnott Baxter born Jan 6, 1863 in Salamannah Scottland. What I do know is he was married prior to coming to the united states and had a son named John with his first wife whos name I do not know. He married my GGgrandmother Mary Robertson and together they had 11+ children as they traveled arcross the planes until they setteled in Warren Utah where my Ggrandmother Jessie Agnes Baxter was born Sept 23, 1899. William later left and devoriced my GGgrandmother and may have remarried or had other children with another woman.

If anyone should have any information that could help me in my search please write, his parents and other children of his may give me names in where to look futher and find any decendents.

Harriet Baxter was born in June 1841 in (the district of?) Ashby De la Zouch, Liecestershire, England.

She married James Romberg Póulter in 1862 in Stepney, London.
I can find her in the birth index, marriage index, and then first in the 1871,1881,1891,1901 census.

Why can't I find her in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census? Can anyone help?

Wish to contact any descendants of John and Ann who married on October 11, 1852 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England. Ann was the daughter of Matthew and Frances Danzey. John and Ann were in New York when their first son, George, was born in 1855. By 1856 they lived in Camden, Lorain Co., OH next door to Ann's brother, Francis Danzey.

Hi. I am seeking information about the parents and siblings of John A. BAXTER who was born in New York in 1823 and died after 1900. He married Harriet Jane LAFORGE(?) in 1842. Harriet was born in New York in 1822 and died in Nov 1900 in Wisconsin. By 1854 the family had moved to Wisconsin where their three children (Bradford, Alman and Robert) were born. In the 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses, they are in Colfax, Dunn Co., Wisconsin. Their son Bradford is my wife's gg-grandfather.
