Surnames: BAYARD, SIMMONS
I am trying to confirm/disprove the claim made in the obituary of my great-grandfather that his grandfather was Stephen A. Bayard. At best, I am thinking it must be a "great" grandfather relationship since there is evidence that his mother's maiden name was Margaret SIMMONS and his father's name was Capt. James GORDON. This is supposed to be the Stephen Bayard for whom the Bayardstown section of Pittsburgh was named. Through the help of Jerry Hobson, we are pretty sure that would be Stephen Bayard (1743-1815). We haven't been able to find any descendants that might "fit" the obit description. Margaret A. SIMMONS was born 26 Jan 1831, probably in Allegheny Co., PA and died 6 Apr 1913. She is buried in Union Dale Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!
