Bayard Catacomb

I'm trying to establish where exactly a Bayard catacomb is located. It was purchased by William BAYARD on 16th Feb 1798 and is located somewhere in the UK. William and his wife Elizabeth MCEVERS are buried there - he died 28th Dec 1804 and she died 2 July 1814. Various other family members are buried with them. Details of these burials are in documents in the Special Collections Dept of University of Birmingham, UK. However, the documents don't say where exactly the catacomb is. One clue infers it is in a town where a St Michaels Church is also found. The catacomb is noted as having 10 places and being full, the last burial being Margaret Bayard in Dec 1854. In other documents, William is referred to as "late of the City of New York in North America but now of Golden Square in the County of Middlesex". Golden Square is just north of Piccadilly Circus in central London, so the catacomb may be in one of the then outlying towns (the reference to St Michaels Church is "... from St Michaels Church in this town...") Any help would be appreciated.

Maria Bayard: painting

Dear all

For my M.A. thesis of American Studies, I researched the journal of Maria Bayard(1789-10/25/1875)'s tour of France in 1815. For an upcoming conference I am now looking for a painting of her.

She was the daughter of William Bayard (NY) and Elizabeth Cornell. She married Duncan Pearsall Campbell (NY) on 06/16/1817 and they raised 10 children:
- Elizabeth Bayard Campbell (1808-09/25/1841)
- Sarah Ann Campbell (1810-?)
- William Bayard Campbell (1812-?), married Maria Cross
- Thomas Pearsall Campbell (1814-11/25/1906), first wife Catherine CD Hearsay, second wife Mary Amelia Wilde
- Duncan Campbell (1816)
- Robert Bayard Campbell (1818-12/15/1883)
- Catherine Bayard Campbell (1820-07/02/1904)
- Henry Pearsall Campbell (1822-01/01/1911)
- Maria Louisa Campbell (1824/31-05/28/1911)
- Edward Campbell (1826-?)

If one of these people is your ancestor or if you know anyone I may contact to find a picture of Maria Bayard, please let me know.

Kind regards

Annelene Timmermans
All I know of him is that he was a on a list of the second Lieutenants in the 36 Aquitaine Infantry Regiment.

While moving my uncle discovered a framed paper with his name and the date 3 July 1787 on it. It is some sort of miltary paper and I am in the process of getting it translated. Thought it would be interesting to locate some information about him.

Uncle Charlie from Canada (?), he died before I was born. My father's brothers were Roy and Fredolph (sp?) or Free, and Sisters, Helen Bayard-Johnson, Signey Bayard-Hornston all from Minnesota. My uncle researched ancestry and all I know is we go back to a Sir Bayard who was a knight to the King of France and then migrated to Sweden. Any information pertaining to my greatgrandfather, and further back would be helpful. Thanks for your help.

Margaret BAYARD, married in New York City in 1766

I'm trying to identify the parents of Margaret BAYARD, my wife's ggggg grandmother. She married William SHERIFF on 2nd March 1766 at Trinity Church, New York City. Descendents of theirs wrote, sometime around 1900-1920, that her parents were "Col Sam BAYARD by Elizabeth VAN CORDTZANDT" (sic), but I can find no reference to such a couple. Plenty of Col Sam BAYARD's but none who married a VAN CORDLANDT. Margaret left the US after the War of Independence and settled in Hampshire, England, dying there in 1812. Any help / pointers would be appreciated.

I am looking for Catharine Bayard who was born abt 1829 in Germany (or Germantown?) and lived in Havre de Grace, Maryland around 1860. I found her in a 1860 census record and she was listed as "head of household" with 3 young children (Lewis, Samuel, and Catharine). I do know that her daughter Catharine married Isaac Leithiser abt 1875/76. I would like to find out if Bayard was her married name or maiden name (I think it is her married name because the kids have Bayard listed as their last name). I would love to find out more about her including who her husband was. Any related information whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Lieutenant Colonel John Campbell Bayard

The earliest information we have about Gwernydd is in 1770`s.
John Bayard was a Lieutenanat Colonel in the 7th Regiment, fighting in America. He was appointed Commandant of Fort Detriot in 1764. In 1765 he was appointed Superintendent of Indian Affairs and was held in high esteem by Clive of India. He was given Gwernyydd as a grace and favour property.

His son John C Bayard was born in India. He was also a Lieutenant Colonel in the 96th Regiment. It is well documented that he lived in Gwernydd and was also a JP in Welshpool. The family home was Hillmorton Lodge Rugby.
He died Aug. 3rd. 1883 and is buried in the churchyard of St. Mary`s Church, Llanllugan. His wife Fanny died April 12th 1894 and is also buried at St. Marys.
We are unsure what happened to the property after that but we believe it stayed in the family for a while as my husband`s father was born in 1907 and remembers visiting as a child.
I`m sure you know that it is a now a caravan park (very tastefully done!). I do have some recent photos of it if you would like me to e-mail them to you.
Kind regards
Sandra

Re: My Bayard Line

From an email with NY State, I was led to believe that Samuel Bayard and his father and family, were actually from the "Boyer" line of France. That would go with saying that most likely they were Huguenots from France, going into the Netherlands, just like my progenitor, to wait for passage to America. I have found them at a church in NYC, NY. I have done lots of research on the beginnings of this family coming to America as it is being implied by NY that my progenitor, Johannes Leendert (Beijer, Beyer, Bayer), may be a close relative. My ancestor is found at the same time in NYC, as well as living at the Livingston Manor, and Samuel Bayard married Alida Livingston. I have since found out that my ancestor and his family lived on a farm that was once part of the Livingston land. Interesting, huh ?

This is a very long shot. My father-in-law, Thomas Francis Bayard born 1895 had two wives. The first was from PA and they had a daughter. He then had a common law wife, can't find a marriage certificate, my mother-in-law, Florence Gieck from the Bronx, New York. But, he decided to change his last name from Bayard to Ryan. We believe that he never got divorced from the first wife, so he changed his last name instead. If this sounds like your relative's history please let me know. My mother-in-law would never tell her children the truth and took it to her grave 3 years ago.

My great grandmother came from the Bayard family in France. ( now Switzerland, town named Rance) According the my Swedish grandmother, no relation, my family is a descendant of Sir Bayard the White Knight of France. There is an article on him in Compton's Encyclopedia from maybe the 60's or so. I think he was in the Crusades. I've never looked it up or confirmed it, so I think it's interesting that there is a web-site.
