Hi, I'm from the John Baybutt and Jane Staziker line. Their son Richard Baybutt married Josephine Louise May. Richard and Josephine were my grandparents. They had two children, John Alden Baybutt, 1 Sep 1918, d. 2005, and Nancy Stearns Baybutt.

I'd love to hear from my Baybutt relatives!

Hello!
Yes, we're here! We're from the John and Jane branch. Florrie(not Florence) Baybutt Newby was my grandmother. When the family came over to Boston, Nana was 4 or 5. She used to say she remembered playing in a little creek near her home in Radcliffe, England. "Auntie Flopsy" was very popular with her nieces and nephews. She later became secretary in her brothers' firm in Boston.

My mom knows a lot more information and photos. But she's not web savvy. And I'm only a guest member for now. I'll post her information when she's compiled it.

Hi Debbie--as you can see, I'm not on ancestry very often! Thanks for your posts and the connection to my Baybutt ancestors. I'm currently working on my husband's genealogy, and his family is even more frustrating than mine--something I never thought would be possible. ;-)

Tory and I have worked on the family trees a few years now. We were able to find quite a bit of Baybutt family history. I'm sure Tory told you about her tree. I will share any Baybutt info I have.

My Grandmother Elizabeth Ann Baybutt married William Cartmel 2/2/1895 at St John's church,Burscough. They had at least 12 children one of whom (Stella) was my mother. Elizabeth died in Blackburn 6/12/1931. Her husband William Cartmel also died in Blackburn, Lancashire 8/3/1913. They lived in Burscough for many years and this is where most of their children were born. I can find Elizabeth Ann Baybutt living with her grandfather William Baybutt in the 1891 census but I cannot find any record of her birth. Can anyone help?

Edward was yet another of the Burscough boatmen, his marriage cert. shows his father as Fairhurst Baybutt, but we think Fairhurst is the same one that died in 1871.Lancs. OPC and BMD have been unable to move us backwards, any help appreciated

Baybutt Families in Massachusetts

I am searching for descendants of two brothers, Richard and John Baybutt, who emigrated, with their families, from Lancashire England in 1888 and 1896 respectively. They lived in Boston in the early 1900s. They were two brothers who married two sisters. Richard's wife was Alice Staziker and they had children Elizabeth Ellen, Herbert, Alice Jane, Ethel Mary, Gertrude R. and Richard S.. John married Jane Staziker (Alice's sister) and they had children Florence, Richard, Raymond and John. Ethel Mary B. married William J. Winterton and their children were Ruth E., William J Junior and Roland. Richard and John were brothers to my great grandfather Thomas Baybutt and I have researched the family history back to the 1750s. If any of this sounds familiar, please reply.

Hi Sharon,
I have just researched the exact item hopefully, if his wife was Elizabeth and they lived with a John and Jane Baybutt. John Baybutt does not seem to be a relative of William's but John is my great grandfather's brother. I looked William up in ancestry.uk and he was born in Liverpool. His father was a dock worker in the port of Liverpool. I then checked his father's place of birth and it seems to be Lathom, Lancashire. Lathom is a village close to where my Baybutt ancestors came from - a farming village called Mawdesley. This area between Ormskirk and Chorley is where most Baybutt surnames seem to originate. It is not a common surname even in Lancashire which is a blessing when you are doing family research. There are some great sites in Lancashire which will take you beyond ancestry.uk. Lancashire BMD is one and OPC Online Parish Clerk Project is another. Both are free. I used OPC to get back to the 1750s via church records for my family. It is as good as the census' and better in some ways. Good luck and if I can help in any way, I will. Eileen (Baybutt) Liasi.
My great grandfather was William Baybutt, he was a seward on an ocean liner that traveled from Liverpool to Boston. After marrying he convinced his wife to move to Boston with him where they moved into a building with another family named Baybutt also, but who were not direct relatives. For me, Baybutt is a very uncommon name, I would like to find links to possible distant relatives. Can anyone offer help?

Sharon Baybutt

Hello Eileen
Must be at least 5 years since we corresponded. Hope you are well. I have progressed a little with the tree but haven't done much research about Ann. I'm sure there must be a Baybutt relationship somewhere but there is also a relationship on the BENSON side. Ann married Nathan BENSON who was the uncle of my 1st cousin 3x removed Margaret STRINGFELLOW. Margaret married John THORNLEY . I understand they all moved to Utah having converted to Mormons in Preston. I haven't much information about Ann & Nathan have you? I do have rather a lot on the STRINGFELLOWS though.
Pamela

I'm looking for descendants of Richard and Alice Baybutt who emigrated to the US in 1888 from Radcliffe, Bury, Lancashire, England, where Richard has a street named after him - Baybutt Street. Richard was the brother of my GG Grandfather Thomas and son of my GGG Grandfather John who came from the farming village of Mawdesley near Chorley. At the 1900 Census Richard and Alice had 6 children Elizabeth Ellen, Herbert, Alice J, Ethel M, Gertrude R, and Richard Staziker Baybutt. At the 1910 Census, there was also a Mary E Baybutt age 22. I have most of the family story researched and written up from the 1790's starting with Richard Babet who married Ellen Kellett, whose son was John, my GGG grandfather up to 1901 and further with BMD info.My branch of the family is written up, up to the 1980's. I would love to share our family story with our long-lost American cousins.

I'm new to this research, 1st attempt. I'm a Baybut spelt with only one T. There appears to be nobody else in this area, I live 20 K from Burscough, Lancashire. The question is, are there many out there with only one T in their family name ?
My father was James and his father was Joseph and mother Grace. His brothers were Albert, Ronald, and William. His fathers brothers were Albert( The most highly decorated soldier in the Liverpool Scottish WW 1) Nathan and William.

Hi Ron,

Yes, that's me. I'm still living in Hythe and Mum's still in Brockenhurst. She had a cancer operation last year from which she's recovered but it has aged her. Good to hear from you, even by this rather unusual method.

Regards,

Steve

HI PAMELA. SINCE MY LAST MESSAGE I THINK I MAY HAVE FOUND A CONNECTION WITH YOUR BRANCH OF THE FAMILY. MY LINE, FROM FATHER TO SON GOES LIKE THIS, ALL BY THE NAME OF BAYBUTT;-
JOSEPH (BAPT1745) =MARTHA.
JOHN (B1782) = ANN LEATHERBARROW
JOSEPH (BAPT1810)=MARGARET BALDWIN
JOHN(BORN 1839= SARAH FEASBY.
AS YOU SEE THE NAMES JOHN AND JOSEPH WERE REPEATED AND I NOTCE YOU HAVE THEM IN YOUR BRANCH TOO. DO YOU THINK MY JOSEPH(1745) COULD BE THE BROTHER OF YOUR ANCESTOR FROM THAT SAME GENERATION?
Hi Pamela! We've just got to be related as it seems we all hail from Latham Ormskirk. Could your Henry, B 1796 be the brother of my John, B1797? If so that would make your Joseph (a reoccuring name for the Baybutts), John, and Betty, first cousins of my Joseph,B1810, Martha B1813 and Ann.
Another coincidence is that Ann, B 1823 in Burscough then lived with her husband, (Nathan Benson) in Wrightington.
have you any idea who Henry's parents were? I'll bet his dad was called Joseph!

I have only just started trying to research my family. I wonder whether they are related to this family despite the slight difference in spelling of the surname. As far as I am aware, one side of the family lived in Hightown, Lancashire, and the other side in the West Kirby/Norris Green area of Liverpool. Does anybody have any knowledge of this?

He was born in 1884 in Pemberton, s/o Thomas BAYBUTT and Ann MILLER.

Thomas & Ann's 1st born was daughter Alice BAYBUTT born 1879.

Thomas Sr was born 1842 in Wrightinton according to the 1881 Census where his surname is written BABUT.

In 1901 Census, he says he was born in Pemberton.

Both Thomas Sr and Jr were coal mine workers. I wonder if there might be any connection between the families??

I am now on another trail - across the US (Rhode Island on one side of the country and California on the other!) Do you know of a Florence Baybutt who was born in Liverpool (about 1880)? Also, do you know of any John Currie connection with our name? You would think a name as uncommon as Baybutt would be easier to follow than this! Sorry I can't help you but I'll keep looking.

BAYBUT

Hello
I have ancestors named BAYBUT. So far I have got back to Henry BAYBET (sic) born 1796 born Burscough living in Latham Lancs in 1841. Wife Mary (45 )born Eccleston Sons Joseph (20) John (15) and daughter Betty (8) all the children were born in Gillibrand nr Wrightington. In 1851 they were living in Wrightington. I have found a Henry BABUTT christened Ormskirk 1795 and wonder if this could be the same Henry also found a marriage for Henry BEBOT to Mary Hickman in Liverpool December 1816 and think they may be the same people (The dates match more or less) There are so many variations of the surname and when my GGgrandmother married her name was written as BAYBUTT.
Makes life interesting!! I wonder if anyone else has any more information on this family?

Hello Eileen sorry to be so late with a reply but I have on holiday and just returned. The Baybutts are an enigma aren't they? Most of them seem to be canal people but my lot were farm labourers . I cannot get any further than Henry born 1795 He had a son named John but he was born in 1826 (approx) so is too old to be your John.If I find any further information I will let you know
Good luck
Pamela

Hi. My grandmother's maiden name was Jane Margaret Baybutt B1864 (parents were John Baybutt and Sarah Feasby) They were married and lived in Yorkshire but I believe there might have been a Baybutt connection with Blackburn Lancs.John is a mystery to me as he kept deserting his family and then returning, and I cannot find his parents names as I do not have a Dof B for him (between 1839 and 1852, I think) Maybe he left to find work. I know of the Burscough branch which is quite large but have been unable to match my John up definitly with any of them. My great aunt Alvinia Baybutt went to the US and settled in Rhode Island. Good luck

Hi Pamela, My great aunt, Alvina Baybutt, emigrated from Yorkshire to Providence Rhode Island circa 1900. Could you and I be related? Baybutt is quite an unusual name. I can't find who she married - if indeed she did marry, so the trail has gone cold.
Her father was John and her mother was Sarah (Feasby). I believe John may have belonged of one of the boatmen families on The Leeds-Liverpool canal, which may explain how he ended up marrying a Yorkshire girl. (John's father was Joseph.) John and Joseph were common names in the Baybutt family so it's hard to trace my own ancestor.

Thanks Cathy. We seem to belong to different Baybutt branches, but during my research I came across Robert, born 1847 -died 1903, and Sarah Ellen, born 1854 -died 1939. I am unable to link them with my family and that branch seem to have been born in Sallom, Tarleton, near Preston, Lancashire, but maybe you can use this info yourself.
I am still trying to find the bithplace of John Baybutt born circa 1850
Mickey

Have heard of the Baybutt boatmen. The Baybutts of Burscough must be realated to my family, the Baybutts of Yorkshire, but so far I have been unable to find the connection. I'm particularly interested in info about my great-aunt Alvinia, b 1875, who apparently emigratred to New England in the early 1900s. (I lost track of her whereabouts after 1899)
