Getting ready to visit Brettach near the Castle Maienfels June 2011 to see the village where Jacob Bayer was born in 1807 to Georg Michael Bayer (b. 1776) and Catharina Muller (b. 1779). Jacob married Elizabeth (b. 1825) probably in Pittsburgh, PA and they had 11 children. He was a butcher in Pittsburgh as were several of his sons. Any information would be appreciated.

BAYER Bernard Irwin 1933-2011

BAYER Bernard Irwin Bayer, April 5, 1933, to October 15, 2011, resident of Keowee Key, Salem, South Carolina. After a courageous three month battle with leukemia, Bernard passed away peacefully at Oconee Hospice of the Foothills in Seneca, South Carolina.

Bernard was born to Betty and Samuel Baye and raised in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Lakeview High School.
He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1955.
Bernard served as an Instructor at the Naval Air Technical Training Center and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1962. Early in his career, he worked as a Writer, Editorial Researcher and Reporter in Chicago, Illinois, and then as a Science Writer for General Motors Corporation in Michigan.
Subsequently, Bernard was employed as an Engineer with the Heavy Military Electronics Department for General Electric in Syracuse, New York.
In the late 1960's Bernard was the Director for the Western New York State Technical Service Program, Man-Machine Systems Design Institute at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
In the 1970's Bernard began working with The Ohio State University, serving as Coordinator of Information Services for the University's Mechanized Information Center. Following the death of his first wife, Rosalee Perl Bayer, Bernard earned his Master's Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bernard subsequently became the Head of the Mechanized Information Center for The Ohio State University and Head of the Physics Library and Perkins Observatory Library. Prior to retiring in 1995, he spent time working towards the attainment of his PhD at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Following his retirement, Bernard was appointed Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University.

Bernard was the only child of the late Betty and Samuel Bayer, and the beloved husband of Rosella Bayer for over 30 years. Bernard will forever be remembered by Rosella and his devoted children, Samuel, Jonathan, Daniel, Joshua, Michelle, and Michael; his loving grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Rosalee, Olivia, Kennedy, and Ziggy; and caring in-laws, Ericka Danko, Betsy Bayer, Mary Ann Bayer, Terence High, and Injung Tolle. Bernard loved his family dearly, and was eagerly anticipating the birth of another grandson in March, 2012. In addition, he held dear to his heart Jody and Greg Cottrell and their son Jaden.
Along with his intense love for his family, Bernard cared deeply for his friends. He enjoyed jogging, boating, philosophy, classical music, studying Judaism, playing pool, dancing with his wife, and being with his family and friends. Bernard touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery, 759 Hwy 51, Madison, Mississippi, 39110.
A separate memorial service will be held in Keowee Key, South Carolina, in November, at a time to be determined. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cottingham House at Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672, 864-882-3351, as these wonderful people cared so genuinely for him in his time of need. THE MACKEY MORTUARY, Century Drive, Greenville, SC.

My wifes grandfather was the only child that was adoped. His name was Eugene Bayer Mertens. His father, whom I am still looking for infor.on died in Alsace-Lorraine,France about 1889 when Eugene was about 2 years old.The German army wanted Eugene's 2 oldest brothers in the army. They were Eugene's family's only means of support,so the mother took all 10 kids to U.S.A.arriving on Sept.3,1890.The mothers name was Elizabeth Bayer and she got sick and died in Chicago,Il.in 1891.5 of the kids were put in an orphanage from where Eugene was adopted.I found infor.on 8 of the kids, but I am still trying to find out more.I got most of my infor. from a 1907 Chicago newspaper about a re-union of Eugene and his siblings when he found out he was adopted. All stayed in Chicago but 1 went to CA.and 1 went back to Germany.Peter (Pierre) Bayer(Beyer)and wife Lena(Lina)Behnke went to CA.Lena and 1 son died in 1912 in a house fire.I cannot find infor.on Lena. She did not want to go to CA.because her family was in the Chicago area.I do not know if the spelling of her last name is correct.Eugene did not tell his 3 kids about his family as far as I knew.My father-in-law told me that he did know what the last name was and that the kids were all adopted in France.None of the family went to Texas as far as I know.Thank you.If you can help, that would be great.Thank's again.

Just got Norma's death certificate and found out her mother's maiden name was Bayer. And just found Anton and Magdalens's death records- Anton dying in 1918 and Magdalena in 1963. Glad to find out where they are buried as there is no record of that on findagrave.com.

Hello, I believe we are cousins in that my grandmother was Ruby Cleek Bayer. I recall visiting Uncle Arnold as a little girl. My brother says his nickname was "Pushum". My mother was Beatrice Bayer Hutton. Andrew Phillip Bayer was only a year old when his family arrived from Germany. I am still searching to determine his parents' names.
I realize that your post was several years ago. You probably have made some discoveries. When did Arnold pass away? Where is he buried? My parents are both deceased. I should have asked questions many years ago...
Best Regards,
Linda

My family is predominantly in the No. NJ area so I doubt there's a connection but let me know if you find anything of interest. Mine has a birthdate of approx. 1844 in Germany.
Re: Joseph C. Bayer, b. 1855 Santa Rosa California to Oregon

If this Bayer is now a nominee for the legislature, he would have to be 121 years old. Who's leg are you trying to pull.

Oregon Republican League:

Republican League Register of Oregon, The Register Publishing Company, 1896, page 176.

BAYER, J. C., of Portland, was born in Santa Rosa, California, in 1855, and was educated in San Francisco and Oakland. He learned the metal cornice and roofing trade, and in 1879 came to Oregon and established himself in that business in Portland, and has built up a large business. He organized the Builders’ Exchange in 1882, and was its president for two years. He has been a consistent and active Republican and is now a nominee for the legislature.

-Tony Larson

Re: Trying to locate parents of Edward Bayer

I was wondering if you ever found the parents of Edward Bayer. I have also been searching for the parents of both he and Maria Anna David, his wife. They were my great-great grandparents, Theodore being my great grandfather, whose son Herbert Julius was my grandfather. Thanks..

I am descended from Michael Baier, born August 25, 1832 in Löffelstelzen, Mergentheim, Wuerttemberg, died June 14, 1900 in Green Bay WI. He married Magdalena Weiss born May 24, 1843 in Löffelstelzen, Mergentheim, died April 5, 1903. Michael Baier was the son of Jacob Baier. Does anyone know of amy connection or other members of their family? I have a list of 12 children, some spelled Baier, others Beyer in the Green Bay, WI and Rockford, IL area.
