Hi,
I'm looking for information about the ancestors of William Cowell Bayley. He was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1824; parents were Matilda Cowell & Thomas Bayly. Thomas was a captain in the British army in the 1st Royals/Royal Scots, but I believe he was Irish. William came to America in 1848 & changed his name to "Bayley." He had 1 brother, Samuel, & a sister, Caroline (Bayly) Evans.
thank you!
Sarah

Hi,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.Your query arrived the day I left for Hawaii.I returned to 77 emails. I just got back from California to 59 emails. I'm still working my way through them.

Yes, we correspond a few years back am yes, I did write "Wave Me Goodbye." I've written four books since then.

My BAYLEY/ROGERS tree is included in my MACLEAN/HAWKES whichj I have just made private, but request to see it and I'll give my permission. I have a lot of christening and burial dates in the record, but Ancestry doesn't recognize these so it looks as if I have no dates for many of my ancestors unless you get into the details.

If you can add to my information, I'd love to have it. Where does your CAPON enter the line?

Best, Jura (jura@jeffnet.org)

Hi,

The only Mary Bayley I have around the time of yours is Mary Rogers Bayley b.18 Sep 1767 d. 1871 all Burnham, Essex. She was christened there 7 Oct. 1767. Her parents were William Bayley and Mary Rogers. She married Charles Bull abt. 1815.

I do have a much later connection to West Ham. My grandparents James Bayley Hawkes and Besse Evans Brant were married there.

My MacLean-Hawkes tree with all this information is on Ancestry but I just made it private after some other "researcher" wiped my tree, changed it and called it theirs. You can request to see it and I'll give my permission.
Hello
I am sure that we corresponded a few years ago as we believe it was your family of Bailey Bros that built one or more of the ships that were used by my CAPON family who were farmers.
Am I correct in that you wrote the book "Wave me Goodbye".
We have collected a bit more information and are in contact with one of the authors of a good book on shipping.
Do you have a family tree of your BAYLEYS and ROGERS. This would obviously make it much easier for me putting all the info together in an understandable form.

I look forward to hearing from you. We may be researching in Suffolk Record office at Ipswich over next few weeks so if there is anything burning that you wish to find out please do not hesitate to ask.

Best wishes and kind regards
Tony Brown and Janet Capon-Brown (nee Capon)
Dartford.
email: tonyjan@talktalk.net
I'm a descendant of William Bayley b. 1745 who was a shipbuilder at Burnham, Essex. He built boats for the Rogers oyster fisheries. He married Mary Rogers. His son William b. 1791 migrated to Ipswich Suffolk where he established the shipbuilding company of Bayley and Sons. I have more notes on this. Are you familiar with books "Essex Gold" about the oyster fisheries and "The Smugglers' Century," about the Essex Smuggler, both books by Hervey Benham?

I'm interested in findng the parents for William b. 1745.
Dear Doreen,
Here goes!
Thomas Bayley(b.1837 in Dawley Green Shrops son of John and Jane)married Mary Adams. She died sometime before 1875 when he remarried Mary Ann Bayley(b.1847 in HadnallShrops daughter of George and Elizabeth)She was my gt,grandmother. They married in Farnworth,Widnes in 1875 having left Shropshire to go to make their fortunes(!!) in the newly emerging chemical works. There seems to have been something of an exodus from N.Shrops to Widnes. It must have been hell on earth after rural Shropshire so they didn't stay long and came back as poor as they went. The three boys were born there-Frederick George in 1874 or 5,Thomas Henry in 1876or7,and William John in 1878 or 9,depending on how they appear in the censuses(ie.what date the census was taken on).The family came back to Shropshire where three daughters were born,Elizabeth Alice(my Gran)in 1880,Jane always known as Jinnie in 1883 and Mary Ann known as Polly in 1886.Thomas was an agricultural labourer so they moved around a lot-according to gran he fell out with his employers fairly regularly so not only lost his job but the tied cottage as well.He died in 1895,Mary Ann in 1931.Tom married Lizzie Turner and Fred and Will married Rose and Lily Sillitoe.Gran married Will Lawley,Jinnie never married and Polly married Jack Bickley.I never met the boys as far as I know but I do have photos of them as well as Rose and Lily. How does all this fit in with you?Are we related in some way?Hope it helps.
Christine
This is a very old post but I'll reply anyway. I have a four and a half page paper, written by my g grandmother, Effie( Virginia James ) Holt Newsome b. 1862 d. 1947?,( I've seen it written with all four names, also in her arithmetic book,"Daves' Practical Arithmetic", as "Effie J. Holt Suffolk Virginia") describing her Holt line back to Randall Holt of Surry Co. VA married to Mary Bagly Baily. I will Share any information in these papers With any one who is interested. My g grandmother was the daughter of James Story Holt and Sarah Rebecca Lamb. James died in 1863, of pneumonia(I think), while serving in the confederate army. Sarah remarried to John S. Russell and moved to Cooper Co., Missouri, where she was living in 1886. Effie married Thomas Penn Newsome and lived in Hicksford, Virginia( now Emporia, VA)

Hello
I am not related to the Bayley family at all but am involved in my own CAPON family history of Suffolk mainly.
The Capon's were farmers and also had shares in ships - mainly the coastal trading colliers and suchlike.
I have been trying over the years to find out about the BAYLEYS shipbuilders of Ipswich/Woodbridge and have found a little bit of info
Do the names JABEZ Bayley and HENRY Bayley come into anyone's research? HENRY Bayley was senior managing director of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company (born at Ipswich 1826). He was killed in a horse-carriage accident in Sidcup, Kent in 1887.
Do you have connections to this family. If so I would like to exchange information as I have some shipping researchers
that would welcome the family information too.

Kind regards
Tony Brown
Dartford
Kent
Your 9th great grandfather James - was he born in Bradford, Yorkshire England, or Rowley, Essex Co, MA? Was his middle initial B? Wife was Lydia Emery? Did Lydia die in Rowley? Was Godfridus's wife Elizabeth Emery? Were Lydia and Elizabeth blood relations??
I am studying the same line, but you have more info than me. Thanks.

Thank you for your query - Unfortunately I know very little more than I posted on the web site. I believe that Rachel is a daughter of the Mathew Bayley in the Family Tree of Janice Daley - which means that she would not be descended from your Mathew Bayley. What I do know about her does seem to tie her in with Janice Daley's ancestors - Rachel had a brother Tom; he (and her father) worked with wood; she lived very near to Hamilton; she was brought up an ardent Methodist etc

Sorry that I cannot be more helpful

Pat Davey

Bayley' of Wicken, Cambridgeshire, England

I'm trying to find out if my James BAILEY is James BAYLEY. Both are of Wicken, Cambridgeshire, England. Mine was born around 1760. That's James Bailey. The other James BAYLEY, was born 1760/61. The Christening for the BAYLEY was Sep 6, 1761. I'm wondering if the spelling for Bayley changed to BAILEY. Atleast for my line. My James BAILEY married a Jane around 1785 in Wicken. They had a son Henry born 1786 in Wicken. The only thing I know of the other James BAYLEY, was his parents were Richard BAYLEY and Frances FLOWERS. Their other children were William, John, Henry, Flower, Issac, Joseph and Peggy.
If someone has this family and can say that the James' are the one and same or if someone can help look-up info to help figure this mystery out would be great. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you give me the date of death for Amy Olive (Bailey) Striley? I found an internet source for her birth as May 24, 1880 in Magnolia, Iowa, and her date of death as 1929. Is Amy's mother, Clara Elizabeth Hite, buried with Frederick Bailey in Ash Mesa Cemetery? Clara is the sister of my great-great-grandfather.

Tony Brown
Dartford
Kent
I am researching Isaac Bailey (1743 - ?) who married Mary March in 1764 in Newbury, MA. They had several MALE children including Isaac (b. 1766), Enoch (b. 1769), Stephen (b. 1772), and William (c. 1776), all in Newbury.

Did Isaac have any daughters?

Some online sources suggest that Nancy Bayley, born about 1773?, married in Newbury in 1769 to John Plummer, was the daughter of Isaac Bayley and Mary March. Can anyone proove or disprove this?

Dear Mary,
After 25 years, this is the first time I have had any contact with family from my direct paternal line from Warwickshire, needless to say I am thrilled!
I descend from Ann's brother Robert Bailey who was sent to Australia as a convict in 1821. Robert is my GGG grandfather. He did very well for himself here.
I have been able to follow Ann Bickerstaff & her family a little through the various censuses but would love to share family lines with you.
I have so many questions! Do you have much knowledge of Ann's other siblings or her parents? Just last week I think I found her brother Charles (b 1815)& possibly sister Rebecca (b 1809) on the 1861 census with a Rebecca & William Bickerstaff. Charles was noted as brother-in-law to William. Was this William Bickerstaff related to your Thomas?
I was told there is a headstone in St Peter & Paul for Ann & her parents but I did not manage to see it when I was there in 1985.
Please email me directly at kerob1@bigpond.net.au
Kerrie Beers (nee Bailey)

BAYLEY family of Kent England

I am searching for the ancestors of Amelia BAYLEY who married George SANDS in Tenderden, Kent, 10 August 1862. According to the Marriage certificate, her father was John BAYLEY, a Labourer. The witnesses were Edward BAYLEY (?her brother) and Amelia Ann MILTON. In the Census' her birthplace was listed as Ashford Kent, Brabourne Kent, Tenderden Kent, Warbleton Sussex and Dallington Sussex. She and her husband George raised their family in Dallington and she was not baptised in either Dallington or Warbleton. Her birthdate was 11 September 1834 as per an Auntie's birthday book. I have not been able to find her with her family in the 1841 census and in 1851 she was a Servant in Tendeden. Does anyone know anything about Amelia or her family? Please email me directly at JMBecker@aol.com
Thanks, Joanne
