Hi thanks for your message, can I come back to you on this soon, I don't think there is a connection, as our Charles Henry was born in Birmingham, and from what I have found the family lived in and around Birmingham. I live in NZ so unsure of where Manchester is in relation to Birmingham.
All my files are packed away as we are in the process of having a new house built.
but thanks for replying.
regards
Lola

Sarah Bayliss

My GG-Grandmother was Sarah Baylis(s) b. 26 Aug 1829 in Bilston, Staffordshire, England. In 1851, she married Joseph Waterhouse in the Collegiate Church, parish of St. Peter, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Together they had 10 children, 8 of whom survived infancy. Does anyone know who her parents were? I THINK her father was John Bayliss, b. about 1791 and her mother was Elizabeth, born about the same year in Sstaffordshire. Does this sound familiar to anyone????

Beth Holt

Ellen Lucy Baylis married Duncan Francis Fitzmaurice in Guernsey CI on 22 March 1873. She died in Canterbury on 25 January 1906. Duncan then married a Martha someone. Duncan and Ellen had one son Francis Edmund Fitzmauirce born 15 October 1875, at the Fire Engine Station, Pratt Street, Camden Town in the County of Middlesex. He married a Lizzie Ellen Faulkner on 29 June 1907 in the District of Basford, Counties of Nottingham and Derby. This was two years after his mother died. Duncan Francis Fitzmaurice died in St Ives, Cornwall on 5 December 1924. Francis and Lizzie had three children, Francis William, Charlotte Ellen and Thomas Edmond. Now I am not sure whether I am related to this lot of Fitzmaurices but I am trying to establish the ancestory of my GG Grandmother Mary Agnes Fitzmaurice. She was supposedly born in Ireland somewhere between 1830 and 1840. According to her death certificate (notoriously unreliable factually) her father was a Henry Fitzmaurice and mother Cathryn Meade. All roads lead to a dead end as far as this is concerned so I am investigating other Fitzmaurice lines. In one of the birth certificates of her daughters she states she was born in Guernsey, CI. Hence following Duncan Fitzmaurice line. This is only a start. I have also seen some emails to a xxxmotherhooley (a Sue) but no response yet. She was asking about Duncan Fitzmaurice as well. Do you know anything. Sorry if I have just provided information you already have. Cheers Helen

Bayliss family in Ludlow, Shropshire, England

My great grandmother was Margaret Barker nee Bayliss. Her father was John Bayliss, a groom, according to her marriage certificate to Noah Barker in Wolverhampton, England on 09 November 1870. She originally came from Ludlow and her age on the marriage cert is 23. She is believed to have spent time prior to moving to Wolverhampton from Ludlow in the Hen and Chickens hostelry which her father was thought to have run at some time. There is a slight possibility that it was the Feathers but I think the Hen and Chickens is more likely or even any with a bird connection!! An elderly relative who has since died remembered the bird connection. I would be grateful for any local knowledge or help in pointing me in the right direction.

Have copy of marriage certificate between Margaret Bayliss and Noah Barker now. They married 09 Nov 1870 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Margaret's age is given as 23, a spinster, and her father as John Bayliss, a groom. I understand she had a sister Emma (Youles) I am still trying to find more definite information other than she came from Ludlow and lived possibly at the Hen and Chickens there.

Hi Patt. Sorry to post out of the blue but I found your question on the net about the Baylis family.
Well, I recently bought a lot of old ephemera at auction which included a fully handwritten copperplate book on the 'Baylis Family Society' which listied loads of family names and members of the society from around the Ledbury area (Stephen quite prominent). The society was formed in 1801 I think by Stephanie Bayls, and has listings all the way through to 1816 including accounts, rules and regulations of the society, lists of names of members, signatures etc. Also some loose leaf pages of accounts for the society and bills and invoices. I wondered if you may be interested in it - I am happy to send some photos in the first instance? Hope to hear back from you. simon.jackson@2plan.com Kind regards. Simon
You may find this information useful:
Methodist Church Archives are held by John Rylands University Library: http://www.library.manchester.ac.uk/specialcollections/colle...
If you know where they came from it would be a good idea to see if the Local family history archives have information. For example Methodism was strong in the South West of England so Devon Family History Society has more details that relate to that area: http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/
Hello, and many thanks for the help. I dont think so at the moment but your other way of spelling Bayliss has given me food for thought. I went back and searched all fo the Moreton in Marsh records for Baylifs and Denleys and think I have finally found a link. Waiting for other ancestry chap to get back to me.....found Robert Baylifs and Ann or Elizabeth Denley - right ages, right places.....soap operas eat your heart out. If I'm lucky I've found the missing link thanks to your help. I'd virtually given up. Anyway thanks again, kind regards, Dawn

The information on the birth certificate say Henry Baylifs born 5th January 1850 in Moreton in Marsh, registration district Shipston on Stour Union. Father name John Baylifs a labourer, mothers name Margarett formely Cotton. Hope this is of some help to you. If this certificate applies to your tree I can scan it onto my site for you.
