Dear Crobinso76,

I know your post was some time ago, but I've been directed to this message board by Roger Baynton as I have Baynton Ancestry from Mells area in Somerset.

You were asking about Lydia BAYNTON (1806 Mells)

Lydia was my 3x Great Grandmother's sister (therfore she is my 4x Great Aunt).

Lydia's parents were Thomas BAYNTON (1778 Mells) and Grace HODDINOTT (abt 1778, not confirmed). They married in Mells 1803.
Their children were:
Sarah (1804 Mells) - my ancestor (she married John MEES 1826 Mells & had 8 children)
Lydia (1806 Mells) - your ancestor
William (1808 Mells)- married Jane? before 1846, place unknown - but possibly Frome (as 1st 2 children baptised there). They appear together on census' after 1851 in Mells - they had 8 children in total.
George (1810 Mells)
Jane (1813 Mells)
Grace (1816 Mells)
Thomas Francis (1819 Mells)- probably died (not confirmed)
Thomas (1822 Mells)- married Ann LINE 1843 Frome - they had 1 child before Ann died in 1849. Thomas remarried in Frome 1850 to Sarah DOGERELL - they had at least 2 children together.

I haven't fully explored all this line yet, but I did look for Lydia -
Now I know why I couldn't find a marriage in the UK for her - she doesn't appear on any census, so must have gone to America before 1841.

Regards

Vanessa
Dorset

Thomas Baynton c. 1791 Kilmersdon, Somerset

Hello all,

Thomas Baynton c. 1791 Kilmersdon, Somerset

I'm looking for the parent's and siblings of Thomas Baynton. Thomas married Elizabeth (Pimm?), but I believe this might have been his second wife. He had children Martha c. 1826, Lydia c. 1835, Thomas c. 1831, and William c. 1829.

Thomas was a brewer and was living at Ashton Gate in Bedminster, Somerset in 1861. I have a note saying that Ashton Gate Brewery was started around 1820 by Thomas Baynton with the help of his two brothers.

His son George Baynton c. 1833 Bristol, Bedminster was also a Brewer in the 1851 census. He married Rosetta Baynton (maiden name was Baynton) in 1865 in the Edmondon dist. Rosetta was born in Camberwell. In 1871 George was noted as a retired brewer. George died in 1879 and Rosetta re-married to a John Rebbeck in 1885 in Edmonton dist.

Rosetta and George had children:

Charles William Baynton - c. 1870

George Albert Baynton - Dec qtr 1866 Edmonton Dist.

John Henry B. Baynton - Dec qtr 1870 Edmonton Dist

Rosetta Catherine E. Baynton - Sept qtr 1875, Tottenham, Middlesex

Love to hear from anyone with connections.
