That helps, I have been checking the Virginia records, but they don't seem to have any Basinger's, in any spelling, from that time. I have found that the grave stones that are old enough are usually unmarked. Couldn't find anything from WV either.

I find both an 1808 date in Lola Corene Wagner's book, and an 1801 date as Christopher said. Where the WV came I don't know -- typo? -- because he was in Rockingham Co. VA at the time of his death, as far as I know. Many of those records were burned, so I know of no *specific* proof of his date of death. And that date? Seems way too specific. This descent: http://donnagene53.tripod.com/basinger/id7.html has the year of death as 1801 as well, and seems very specific on some details I haven't seen before.

Certainly worth some more research, I think!

The farthest I've traced our Schoedinger/Bassinger/Baysinger line back to the 1850s in Dorrenbach and Wurtemburg Bavaria. I don't imagine anyone has a "pure" line.

Judy

I recently had a male Schoedinger member of my family do a Paternal DNA test on the Schoedinger line. I guess you should be prepared for any results that you receive. My closest paternal DNA match happened to be a Bassinger/Baysinger. It was not a close match, 13 generations or approximately 350 years but the truth is that sometime in the mid-1600s a Basinger male had relations with a Schoedinger married woman and that child was born a Schoedinger and continued to have sons down to my generation. It could have been an adoption or a stepchild who took the name. Now that doesn't change the fact that that "adopted" child continued down the ages and I am certainly part of the Schoedinger family... or am I? Interesting but takes my genealogy in another direction. My Bassinger cousin's line goes back to 1700 in Alsace France which is close to where the Schoedingers also come from.

Judy Lehman, JudyLehm@sbcglobal.net

My Basinger line: Jacob 1700 Alsace, Phillip Jacob Leemmer 1746 Germany, Michael Dreher 1776 PA, Phillip Woolive 1805 VA, Stephen Bassinger 1826 TN, William L 1858 TN, Robert Frank 1888 TX, Robert Leslie 1920 TX.

Polly Rice was possibly the wife of John -- Elias appears to be living with them in 1840.
In the 1810 census, Elias was enumerated with two young females and in 1820 -- he added three more so not all the females were named in this will.

Take care. I also searched the Electronic Army Serial Number Merged File at NARA and didn't find him listed there.

I think that Paul Baysinger, Clarence's dad, was my grandmother Anna's brother. So Clarence was my mother's first cousin, and I don't think she ever got the chance to meet him. After Anna married Harvey McBee and my mother was two years old, they moved to Alberta Canada.
Thank you for restating the problem, Terri. Now I'm wondering about Lyon Co. KS land records, and if they would cast any light on the situation. The Register of Deeds in Emporium KS has the records from 1856 on, and I don't see that the LDS has microfilmed them. The Kansas State Historical Society suggests county atlases, but it looks as if you have to visit their library to consult them. Perhaps they are held elsewhere, too? For Lyon County, they list: LM 492, no. 2; Illustrated Historical Atlas of Lyon County. Philadelphia: Edwards Bros., 1878. Perhaps we can find that somewhere. Checking the land and court records of Weld Co. CO might be useful too, if he owned any land there, or perhaps passed other property to Nancy LONGAN.

Of course as soon as I sent my previous post, I started to dig into Lyon Co. KS online. There is some very interesting stuff! For starters, it seems that there is a group of Baysingers still living in Lyon Co., and it might be a good idea to try to connect with some of them. Look at this index to obits in the Emporia Gazette: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksfhgslc/obitbarbay.html & http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksfhgslc/obit90babi.html

Wow, would I love to have all those obits, and sort those folks into family groups. There is a story the next day, too.

The boards here have some interesting stuff for Lyon Co. KS too. See this obit for Mahala Baysinger Clark, who moved to Lyon Co. in 1865: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kan...

Hmmm. Anyone know any thing about this "Union Defender of Kansas - 1865" in Franklin Co. KS? Ottawa twp
31.
Responding to a post from Betsy Rice Chowning re: Elizabeth Rice
Baysinger, it is helpful to find a new route to pursue in determining
the date and place of hrer death. We know she was still living in 1880
because she is recorded with husband Peter Baysinger in the Kansas
federal census, living in Lyon County where they had lived for several
decades. Six years later, Peter died in Weld County, CO. near their
daughter, Nancy Frances Baysinger Longan.

Is it possible that Elizabeth Rice Baysinger would have left her
husband and returned to Hardin County to die? Or would it be another
of the several Elizabeth Baysingers who might have died in Hardin
County, Ky.? Do you have a death notice or certificate? Thank you for
any information.

Terri Baysinger Malinowski

When I was in Colorado getting Peter Baysinger's gravestone set in June, I checked probate records for Nancy Frances Longan and her husband, William Longan. His assets were left to her and four children, two of whom lived in eastern Washington at the time (1919)! They were Rosa B. Callender of Percell, Weld County, CO (step-daughter); Arthur U. Harbor of Spokane (step-son);Laura V. Perkins of Elmira, WA (daughter); and Maggie Grace Coates of Longmont, CO (daughter). I know Nancy Frances was married to Abner Harbour in 1866 and was widowed later, so the first two children above must be from the Harbour marriage. The latter two obviously belonged to Longan.

The farm and personal property appeared to be the intact possession of Longan for decades, so no infusion from Peter Baysinger that I could ascertain. Longan conveyed a fair amount of property, including a quarter section of land (I think that's 640 acres), horses, cows, farm machinery, and well over $1,000 in savings.

Nancy Frances died in 1929 in Longmont, Weld Co., CO. Her estate went to the three children, all of whom lived in Longmont by that time: Grace Coates, Arthur U. Harbor, and Laura V. Perkins. I am in touch with Grace Coates' grandson (actually, the grandson's wife, Judy McDaniel) in Colorado. But that's the extent of her knowledge.

However, I note in voting records and in various federal censuses (1860, 1870, 1880) that other Baysingers lived in the vicinity of Peter and Elisabeth in Elmendaro Township, Lyon County, KS, presumably their sons. I haven't had time to check that or whether there are descendants there yet.

Terri Malinowski

According to a source on in Breckenridge County Kentucky, there was only two Baysingers in the county at the time, Abrahan and Daniel Harding Baysinger, the Later married Matilda Guntermann in 1847, he was married several times and was involved in his brother Jon Riley Baysingers crime. {2 reasons for his son to disown him}

I am working on that, I was trying to find his other descendants and see if they wanted to do a genealogical DNA test.

I need pictures, commentary, Histories, Genealogies, etc. I am planning on organizing a Baysinger Genealogical Society this summer for all related lines. Let me know if you can help on any of this. Pictures of Hattie, Louis, Ralph, Carol, Talley, etc are extreemly valuable to me.
oops forgot to tell you that I visited with Evelyn when I went to South Dakota one year. As I said I do have some pictures of Swanzy "Swain" Baysinger, and am more than willing to share. I also have pictures of Lydia his wife, John Harvey, Molisa, Amasa, and lots of my father "Jack" Talley. I also have a couple of Hattie and a few of Hettie. I also have a couple of Ralph and Caryl. Let me know. I contacted Gay in S.D. but I don't seem to be able to generate much from that group for some reason or other. No, I don't know who the father of Swanzy was, and have no pictures that would leave an indication. All I ever heard was Brackenridge, Kentucky. I'm working on an effort to get everybody together. Meby this summer.
I am researching this branch of BASINGERs, especially as it relates to George Washington BASINGER (b. 1810, Greene Co., TN). I believe George W.'s parents were Michael BASINGER and Barbara WOOLIVER/WOLAVER, who were married in Rockingham Co., Virginia, and then migrated to Tennessee. George Washington Basinger married Jane Nichols PETERS in Greene Co., TN in 1830 and they migrated to Missouri. Any information you can send will be much appreciated!

I am trying to contact the descendants of a distant cousin of mine, Nora Agnes Richards, who married Ammasa (Amasay) Willoway BAYSINGER. Nora Agnes grew up in Yankton County,SD, so I think she probably lived in the SD, NE, IA area after marriage. She and Ammasa had a family of twelve children: Gladys, Clarence, Clyde, Ray, Emily, Melvin, Elsie, Harold, Evelyn, Charlotte , Dan and Dallas. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks for reading this query.
G. Richards

Hi Orrie,
I just talked to my mom, and before I forget she said to ask you if Talley was brother to Jack? Hattie is my great grandmother and Louis was my great grandfather. Mom thinks she may have a picture of Hattie, and she may know someone who has more pictures. Ralph Lefler is my grandfather, Carol was his brother, and my aunt may have pictures of Carol, as they remained pretty close. Rumor has it though, that a lot of her pictures were destroyed by water. However, when my grandmother passed away, (ralphs wife), my aunt may have gotten more pictures from her. Mom said to tell you she has a cousin Evelyn that lives in Mitchell she thinks, and she is going to try and find a number for her. As soon as I have more info for you as to what pics I can get, I will let you know. I do have pics of my grandfather, and I know my mom does as well, that I can help with, and the rest I will do my best. You never said if you knew who Swans parents were or if you had any further information on them? Take care, Sue

So you are Hattie's nephew? I am still trying to get any info I can about the family. My mom is Marjorie lefler aka Muff and was Ralph Leflers daughter. Most of my mothers siblings have past away now and my mom is turning 80. The only other sibling left is my Aunt Jean. She married Leonard Knutson. We are still reaching an impass on any info about Swan Baysinger. If you have any or can point me in the direction of who may, I would appreciate it! Thanks, Sue
