I'll check my notes. One thing I'm very pround of is that my grandmother Santos Bazan taught me how to sew using the fabric sacks used for flour at that time. All the women in the family were taught to sew at a very young age. To this day my sister and I still sew quite a bit. We also were taught to crochet and to quilt. Unfortunately quilting takes a group to work together and I don't live close to anyone who knows how to quilt.

Yes, Valentina was my grandmothers sister. We called her Tia Hane (pronounced in spanish) Tia Hane were always at our home visiting my father. They were cousins and very close. Tia Hane was a master semstress. She would make all my dad's cowboy shirts. That's how I learned to sew. She was the sweetest person you could ever meet. I'm not sure if she is still living. I will look her up!

Yes, la Mota ranch is right next to the Bazan ranch. They do have a cemetary, but they do not have anyone to let you in. I have been told that the county of duval is responsible for these two cemetaries, yet the gates are always locked. My grandmother, Santos Bazan was raised there. My grandfather Juan Hernandez also lived there. The original Bazan that I can trace to the Bazan ranch was Liandro Bazan. Married twice. Later on some of the Bazans' moved to Benavides, TX. That's were you will find most of them.

Bazan family tree traced back to 509

You said that you have the Bazan family tree traced back
to the year 509. I would like to know what information you have dating back
that far. I have found information of a Persian ruler of Yemen named Bazan
from the 600s. I would like to see if your information is similar. I also
would like to know what the coat of arms looks like.

E-mail me back FirstKahn@AOL.com

I am Joe Bazan's nephew, hoping to re-up this thread. Almost 10 years has past and most of my family doesn't know much of any other parts of our family.

My dad is also Frank Bazan, uncle is Joe Bazan and aunt is Ester. My grandmother is Luz (lucy) Bazan, she is about 86 years of age.

My grandfather was supposedly an employee or did paperwork for the Bexar county courthouse. Can someone please help us find info on him and his family?

I am a decendent of the Bazan family. My grandmother was Santos (Mama Santitos)Bazan who grew up in el Rancho La Mota (which is a few miles from Ranchos San Jose and el Fresnillo a few miles from Benavides, Tx. you can go on line and search Eary Tejano Ranching by andres saenz edited by Andres tijerina. Its mostly about the Saenz and lopez family, but you can get an Idea where the Bazan family grew up as well. they were neighbors. Note: Don Pedro Bazan, who was the protege of Don Pedrito Jaramillo as well know healer from this area. Good Luck!

Re: Bazan family in Arizona

Joaquin was the son of my g.g.grandfather, Joaquin Alejandro Bazan and is listed in the 1860 us census for villa del Bosque, in Valencia county, New Mexico, along with his 7 siblings, sister sarah (saraphia moved to Arizona about he same time). They moved there to help Hubble ( family relation )with his trading posts. I am descended from his oldest son, Jesus Maria Bazan. Joaquin Alejandro was the 1st born son of Don Ygnacio Ricardo Bazan (master weaver B. in Puebla, Mexico, sent to Santa Fe in 1807 to teach weaving (was the father of the Rio Grande Blankets). industry)and his wife Dona Maria Apolonia Gutierrez (daughter of Don Lorenzo Gutierrez, the heir to the Pajarito Land Grant purchased by his father Clamente Gutierrez of Spain (the "Sheep King".."the richest man in the Kingdom of New Mexico"). The Pajarito ended up with the Hubble family when her niece, the heiress married an american soldier. The Bazans descend from Don Alonso de Bazan, son of Andres de Bazan, secretary to the Duke of Albuquerque....closley related to Don Alvaro de Bazan III, the 1st Marquez of Santa Cruz, the most famous person in Spanish Naval history. The Bazans, for 16 generations, were the Lords and Masters of of the Valley of Baztan in Navarre, since 1135 AD...who's Baztan River seperates France from Spain, spilling out into the Bay of Biscay....and the Viscounts of Valduerna, etc. The Bazans that moved from New Mexico to Arizona, also moved there to join a Spanish speaking community settling there to get away from the anglo-Americans populating New Mexico who were often prejudiced against Hispanics.
