I was born and grew up in Haiti until I immigrated to the USA with my family in the mid 1980's. My last name is Bazile. This last name is rather common in Southern Haiti. It's also spelled "Bazil", "Basile" and sometimes "Basil". Because Haiti was a French colony, I assumed it was a French name. In the USA, however, I have met individuals of Italian ancestry who have the Bazile last name.

This is Monica. I am from the Bazile lineage.
I had a uncle named Chester Arthur Bazile, Jr. He lived in Lake Charles and was born in Washington, LA (St. Landry Parish). Not sure if this is the same Chester you are speaking of. He had nine children and his wife name was Ella. I am looking for decendents from his parents - my grandparents; Chester Arthur Bazile, Sr. and Gustina Davis Bazile.

Hello, this is actually my cousins account. We are researching the Bazile's on his mother, and my father side. I am piecing together the family tree. There are a lot of differences in spelling with some of their first names and the last, depending on which Census you look at, however,I am figureing out a lot. We come from Edmond Bazile and Gustina Davis Bazile. Gustina or Gustava(sp)comes from the Davis side. Her fathers name was Zeno Davis and her mother name was Celestia or Celeste Davis. A lot of Bazile's and Davis's lived in Washington, LA (St. Landry Parish). You can email me so we can go over correspondence and see if we are kin..lol.
Hi Eric,
I'm not sure if we're related in some distant way. But I'm sure we're connected somehow. Besides, aren't we all?

Anyway, I've been trying to put together a family tree. My roots are in Haiti. You seem to know quiet a bit about the Baziles. I was wondering if you had any more information about the French with Bazile last names who brought slaves to this part of the world.

It's frustrating when you run into brick walls trying to trace your past. I hope you could help even if it's just a little bit.

Origin of the Bazile's

Hello Fam,

I come by way of Patrick Bazile who is one of six children from John and Adel Bazile. My grandparents John and Adel are both from Louisiana and raised my father, uncles and aunts in La Plaza, Louisiana. John Bazile currently resides in La Plaza. The house my grandfather lives in sits right next to a very small house that him and my late grandmother (God Bless Her) raised all their kids.

I am one of many grand kids. I know my father Patrick has six children (Shalon, Patrick, Eric, John, Tahira and Matthew), my Aunt Diana has two (Three and Monique), my Aunt Brenda has one (Kendal), my Uncle Joseph has two (Joseph Jr. and Lisa), my Aunt Shirley (unsure) and my Uncle Randolph (unsure).

Also my Grandfather John Bazile had a brother by the name of Bill Bazile who is actually older than my grandfather. I am unsure how many other brothers my grandfather had.

I have had the privelage to travel around the world and have found the possible origin of the Bazile name. There are Bazile's in Haiti. They were transported as slaves from Africa and as some know they were given their masters last name. The French are the ones responsible transporting Africans to Haiti and that is why Haitians speak Haitian Creole which is not French but similiar. So the last name is actually French. Yes the Italians do have Bazile's that live in Italy, but is a familiar last name for both countries.

I had to chuckle about it not being a hobby, but an obsession...I'm getting there.

I'm just beginning compared to you, so you may be able to help me more than I can help you, yet we shall see.

Could you give me anything on a Edmond, Edmund, Edward "Edmo" Bazile. I give all these names because I'm not sure on any of the spellings except the "Edmo". He had sisters. Marie and Celise are the only ones I can remember at the moment. Loved to know if he had brothers.

From there I would want to know the name and particulars of Edmo's father. As far as I can establish the father is caucasian and "Edmo" was a free mulatto.

Also, do you have copies of any vital statitics of these folks?

Looking forward to your answer.

CG

I have located a "free mulatto" that says Bazile, in Louisiana. Thus, I need to check into the archives for proof that it could be Edmund Bazile. It is in the census between 1810 and 1819 found in http://www.familytreemaker.com

Caroline I believe is of Indian decent. No proof of that yet.

Thrilled to have a conversation. Do either you or Marcus have the names of the parents of Edmund Bazile and/or Caroline?

With this bit (love it if you have dates!) I will do the leg work for hard copies from archives/census bureau.

Look forward to hearing from either of you!!

CG

If any questions or other info please let me know.

Thank you,

Jon

I have aquired some information from my Aunt about the Bazile family. It appears that my family is associated with the Black and Mullato Baziles. My Aunt also confirmed that some have spelled their last name with an sile instead of zile.Edmund Bazile married a woman named Caroline. They had six or more children, Edmonia, Minnie, Callie, Johnny, Gusta called Gus and Chestre Arthur. Chester has 9 children, Wilber may be spelled Wilbur, Madeline, Bernice Louise, Mytrle, Chester Arthur Jr, Edmund Davis, Mae Caroline, Minnie Gustina and Dehart Herbert. My family stems from Chester Arthur Jr. Edmund and Gustina and their family were from around the Opelousas, Lawtell and Washington areas. You can email me at polloclub@hotmail.com if you have more information or want to discuss what I have. My source of information is still alive and is Edmund Davis Bazile's sister.

Bazile family history.

This is what I know of so far. Although the Bazile family name and family did not originate in Louisiana the part I know of goes only that far back. This information comes from one of my great aunts.

Edmund Bazile and Caroline Bazile (Not sure of Carolines maiden name, but will try to find out) had six children: Chester Arthur Bazile Sr., Edmonia, Minnie, Callie, Gusta (called Gus) and Johnny. Cheser Arthur Bazile Sr. married Gustina Davis in 1908 and had 9 children: Wilber ( may be Wilbur), Madeline, Bernice Louise, Myrtle, Chester Arthur Bazile Jr., Edmund Davis, Mae Caroline, Minni Gustina and Dehart Herbert. Chester Arthur Bazile Jr. is the line from which I come.

Hope this helps someone. I will try to get more information and see if I can get some maiden names I am missing. I know that either Caroline (Edmund's wife) or Gustina (Chester Sr's wife) was very light skin and passed for white. I will have to verify which one it was. I was also told that someone white did marry into the family during this part of the family line, may have been a little earlier.

I will update when I get more info.

Secure a great deal of marriage dates for most of the Bazile's who registered. Although some records were not available because they are located in the Parish where the wedding took place. I got as many as I could send me the names to btp@n2life.com. I check them against the info I have and get back to you.
BAZILE FAMILY

Most of the BAZILEs I know are Catholic. Therefore, you might want to search the following for information on this family:
Rev. Donald J. Hebert's 41 volume SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA RECORDS: CHURCH AND CIVIL (Birth, Christening, Marriage, and Death) and Russell Murray's ST. LANDRY PARISH MARRIAGES.
Additionally, some BAZILE family members are buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, St. Landry Parish, LA; St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery, Opelousas, St. landry Parish, LA; and Sacred Heart Cemetery and Combre Memorial Park in Lake Charles, LA. Some BAZILEs still live in the Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, LA area. Some of them still live in the Lake Charles area. Many were members of either Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles.
An Edmund BAZILE moved to Lake Charles from Washington and married a JEFFERSON. He later moved to Altus, OK, where he died. His widow and one of their 5 daughter moved back to Lake Charles after his death. They still live there.
