Meta Terrell - b. 1881 Greene Co, Indiana - Married to Byrd F Beach and (?) Bailey

I am looking for any information on Meta (Terrell) Beach Bailey or her daughter Margaret Beach (Margaret's name was spelled Beech on her birth certificate). Meta's name may have been Sarah Almeda (or Almeta). The 1900 census lists her as Sarah A. (My mother called her "Aunt Mead".) Meta was the daughter of Jonathan and Nancy Riley Terrell. Her first marriage was to Byrd F. Beach. She was divorced in Indianapolis about 1911 or 1912.

Meta's daughter Margaret was born in Indianapolis on 25 April 1907 and was referred to in the 1910 census as "M. Lucile Beach."

The last mention I find of Meta was as "Meta Bailey" when she was named as a survivor in her sister's obituary in 1929. At that time, she apparently was living in New Lebanon, Gill Township, Sullivan County, Indiana. I find nothing further on either Meta or Margaret after the 1910 census when they were still in Indianapolis.

Meta apparently died before 1940 because she was not mentioned in her father's obituary when he died in 1940.

I guess it's possible Meta was married more than twice, and maybe that is why I can't find her.

I would be so grateful for any information anyone may be able to provide.

A former Bicknell resident and nurse's aide for Logansport State Hospital, she was a member of the Bicknell First Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Auxiliary and the Grandmother's Club.

She was born Aug. 18, 1904, in Bicknell, to Andrew and Rebecca (Johnson) Miller.

Her husband, Lee Beach, is deceased.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Gleenis Jones of La Porte; two brothers, Ralph Miller of Vincennes and Charles Miller of Winchester, Ohio; and two sisters, Dora Schaefer of Vincennes and Alma Purcell of La Porte.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Flummerfelt-Goodwin Funeral Home.
I have been reading your posts and others and decided to send you a picture of my grandfather, Charles Beach. Please compare this with your relatives and let me know if there's any resemblance. My gf ran away from home at an early age (around 16) and mother always told me that he was ashamed of his grandmother (or mother) because she was American Indian. Let me know what you think.

Looking for Martha Bowker (or Bouker, Barket, Boucker) b. 1768, m.1789, d.1812 in West Springfield, MA area. Martha was married to Samuel Beach (b.1759 Norfolk, Litchfield Cty, CT). They married in West Springfield, had 8 children. But, cannot find any hint of her parentage. There are some records of Martha Bowker b. 1750 or 1752. I don't know where the dates of 1768 birth or 1812 came from and cannot verify them. Any assistance appreciated.

There were Beach/Beech families who lived in MS who were originally from Colleton Co. SC in the early 1800s and then migrated south. You might try Ray Revette at query@revette.net. He is descended from this line.
Susan

Charles Granddaughter, who is my Aunt, is still living and has coroborated most of the information.

I believe we are cousins (of a sort). :-)

I would appreciate any information you can give me, sources, scanned copies of documents, etc.

I would be happy to send you a picture of Charles Spencer Morrison Beach. I can't get further than Charles and Eli's Father, also Eli. I have found an Elisha Beach but still checking that out.

I'd also love to fill out the generations and family coming down from Charles' brothers.

I'll be happy to let you know if I find any more discoveries as well.

Take care,
Susan

I believe that they moved to the midwest, but not sure. Her father was Fonso Postell Grafton, mother was Anable Lee (Ward) Grafton of Canton, Mississippi.
I don't think this is the same Beach family.

My grandmother was born in SC, her father Eli was born in SC. Her grandfather Eli was born in Va. His son Charles was born in SC about 1852.

I am just getting into the Beach side of my family and both the father and son were Cabinet makers.

The elder beach, Eli 1819-1884, died in Charleston, SC. His death certificate states that he died from Paralisis.

I hope this helps. Dorcas Whittington

I am researching my grandfather, Charles Beach, who first appeared in Simpson Co. KY. census in 1880 in Wash Draper household. He was only 16. He listed his mother and father as being from Tennessee, but we've been unable to trace him there. He had friends who were members of the "Holland" family. Grandfather married Henrietta Johnson originally of Kentucky. Their first child, my father, Charles Alvidore Beach, was born in Bowling Green, KY. Grandfather started out young as a farmer but later worked for L & N Railroad. He was killed in a railroad accident sometime around 1898. There were several different families of Beach living in that area. Were any of these your relations? Glad to exchange info. Nita Beach Weissinger

Hello Dorcas,

I would very much appreciate information you could share. Our tie is that we have a common ancestor - the Eli Beach from the early 1800's. His sons, Eli Beach and Charles Spencer Morrison Beach branch off in our respective lines. Eli your ancestor and Charles mine. Brian Bakeman and I are one generation closer, sharing Charles as an ancestor.

His brother Will, I called him Uncle Will was a Quilter and I have a picture of him sitting at a machine with a quilt on it.
I would very much like to have a copy of Eli's death certificate. I would be happy to pay for the cost of the copy or perhaps if you have a scanner you would be willing to email it to me. Photos are always welcome. My address is: findinghart@gmail.com

Your phrase "died of paralysis" strikes my curiosity. I had polio when a child and I wonder if it could have been something like that or a stroke perhaps. I'd be glad to share the information about my lineage but I haven't been able to get beyond that elder Eli and his wife Eliza. I wonder if they could have a gravesite there is South Carolina? I know that he was born in Virginia and she in S. Carolina.

I am well pleased that you replied to me and excited to fill out another branch of the family. I live in Tacoma WA.

Best wishes,
Susan Harter
Kristen,

Thank you for replying to my message. I'm researching this family for my friend Pat Snyder who is the son of Cora Beach. He didn't know a lot about his family but had a few clues.

With those clues, I was able to find Maxwell Beach's parents, aunts and uncles. I haven't gone any further than that but intend to do more the next time I visit the genealogy library in Salt Lake City.

Do you know anything about your 3rd great-grandparents? Please ask Dorothy if she knows anything about Cora Beach.
96 years old! God Bless her! I took my 93-year-old friend out to lunch today.
Hi Susan, Sorry I haven't got back to you before. I have not been doing much research in a while. When I get really bored, this helps lots.
I have not done much research on the Beach side (my grandmother Ida Beach) of my family. I was hung up on the Marcus side and that one is really like a needle in a haystack.
I have some info on Mary Romedy. That one was hard because of the spelling of Romedy.
When you have 2 same first names like Eli, it can really be confusing. I have the 1850 and 1860 census for Eli Beach born about 1818. He was my GG Grandfather.
So your grandfather was my grandmothers brother. WOW, I just now really saw the connection when I looked at the 1880 census. His brother Will, I called him Uncle Will was a Quilter and I have a picture of him sitting at a machine with a quilt on it.
I have info on Aunt Jessie and there was a son Walter that was born Nov. 1888 and I have some info on him.
I also have a death certificate on GG Grandfather Eli who died of paralysis in 1884.
I am so glad that you contacted me. I live in Statesville, NC. I will be glad to share any info that I have. If you have anymore info that you would like to share, please let me know.
Thanks,
Dorcas Whittington

I believe we are very likely cousins. My ancestor's name is Charles Spencer Morrison Beach, son of Eli. Your's is Eli Beach, son of Eli.

Unfortunately I don't have any more information on the elder Eli. If I do come up with more leads I'll let you know and I'd appreciate if you could do the same.

My name is Susan Kay Beach, daughter of Roderick, who was son of Roderick, who was son of Charles son of Eli.

I did have Mary's name but didn't have a last name to go with it and I do have Ida's name in my file. This is like looking for a needle in a haystack but so rewarding when a link is found.

Take care,
Susan
Hi Brian. Actually we have communicated before this. It's been some time and I hadn't found my Aunt when last we spoke. She is still living and is the Daughter of Charles' son Roderick. Her brother, Roderick Jr., was my Father. I had your info, my info and a few other pieces gleaned from other venue's but it all came together when I found my Aunt Faith. She's up in her 70's (the youngest) and has had a stroke but she's feisty and confirmed a lot of what I already had. She also gave me a bunch of Grandpa's official papers, military, etc. He's buried in Anchorage AK along with Grandma (Bertie Burns). Faith told me he was a bit of a recluse and didn't talk too much about his family. Said he called himself the "black sheep".

My Dad, Roderick, died when he was 42 years old of lung cancer. He smoked like there was no tomorrow. My parents were divorced when I was a babe. I have a story about that him keeping an eye on me but that's for later. Too late tonight and I'm tired. We'll talk again.

Susan

Hi Dorcas - I am sorry I never responded to your post, but have just gotten back to working on my genealogy. I have a letter from my grandfather's uncle that suggests the Beaches were from up north and listed some family names like William. But you actually have more information that I did, as I didn't know that Eliza stood for Elizabeth.

Have you found anything more since you last emailed me? My email address is brian405@prodigy.net

Thanks
Brian Bakeman
Oklahoma City, OK

Hi Susan - you have no idea how exciting it is to hear from someone on the Beach side of my family. I have a letter from my grandfather's uncle Roderick written from New Mexico and have wondered for years what happened to that side of the family and where they are now. Roderick and my grandfather were close in age and I actually have a picture of Roderick with my grandfather and his parents.

I would love to know what you have on Roderick, his wife and his children.

My email address is brian405@prodigy.net. And I would be happy to share the photo of Roderick with Charles and Eugenia Beach and any other information you want.

Thanks so much, this really is exciting for me.

Brian Bakeman
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Horace G., Esther, and son Charles A. Beach Meriden, CT 1850

Horace G Beach 29, a mechanic, his wife Esther 21, and son Charles A. Beach age 2, lived in Meriden, CT in 1850 next door to probably his parents Warren H. Beach a shoemaker 61, wife Amanda (possibly Reed)age 58, and son Lyman age 15. I am seeking descendants of this line to obtain more information on the family origin of Amanda (Reed?) Beach. I believe she may have been born in Durham, the daughter of John C. Reed and Rebecca Johnston.

I would appreciate any information about this entire family if they have descendants today. Are they recorded in a genealogy book somewhere? Does anyone have information on this family? Thanks to anyone who can provide clues for me.

Carol Boggs

Beach family who arrived via Canada.

Hi cousins! After having my nephew complete DNA tests, we've found that our Beach heritage comes from all over Europe plus the Middle East and into the US via Canada then down thru the Western States down into Mexico, and on into South America. Has anyone else done the DNA and come up with Haplo Group R1b1b2? I'd like to exchange info.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I'm hoping that someone is still looking. I would like to get an email from anyone having a book about the BEACH FAMILY OF KENTUCKY. My maiden name is Beach and I'm trying to research my grandfather, Charley Beach (no middle name known). After having my nephews do DNA tests, it appears that our branch comes from Canada and points East of Canada. Even some went down into Central and South America. Any info would be appreciated. I'd be glad to share what I have and also pictures. Thanks. Nita Beach Weissinger

POW/MIA Korean War, BEACH

I am searching for the families of a soldier with the surname BEACH that were lost in the Korean War. At this time the government has no family contact. At the time he was lost his remains were not recovered. Family DNA is needed to identify remains if and when they are recovered. At the time they entered service they gave their Home of Record as posted below

Soldier: FLOYD THOMAS BEACH
Born: 1931
Date of loss: October 7, 1951 KIA
Home of Record: Contra Costa County, California

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for this soldier.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
517 Mohican Trail
Wilmington, NC 28409

40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
As a point of caution, PLEASE, do your own research. All the old books and much of the information "Beach" copiers use has errors. Unfortunatley, these errors are perpetuated and taken as truths. These old resources should be taken as a starting point for your research, not copied or relied upon. Our DNA Project has proven that these error have occurred as many early documents were assemble by assumption and name only.

If you are looking to verify your families lineage, I would recommend having a male BEACH relative join our DNA Project, this would assist in determining, if in fact, your family descends from the "Theoretical" three New Haven brothers.

Many other Beaches arrived in British North America during the 17th century. Many of these carry the same name and are genetically linked, albeit not from the New Haven Colony Beaches.

I have data from BEACH families that connect to the New Haven Beaches via their paper lineage, when completing the DNA tests, they are not related and have a different haplo group.

A good researcher has 3 documents for each detail if possible. In the best scenario 2 of these will confirm that piece of data.

I hope a new researcher will be just that, a true researcher not a copier of previous errors.

At this time, we have one researcher from Richard's lineage, it would be wonderful to have others from this lineage and help establish his validity.

If interested in our DNA Project, you may contact me directly at:
DKBeachFam@aol.com.

Best regards and enjoy your research.

Denis

BEACH DNA results

The following may be on interest to those doing original research regarding their Beach lineage. Much misinformation is on the web and consistently being copied or early research being taken as all factual and their information not being substantiated. As additional documents are located new research needs to be complete. Also, DNA testing has substantiated that much early research is in error, not be intent, but assumption. We have two haplo groups that related to the original Beaches from England, with a possible third, albeit their research, being original, is inconclusive. Many researchers link to family by name and has created errors through the years. Our most recent, DNA contributor's paper trail led to Richard of New Haven, his closest match to others, whom also connect to this era, indicates a one generation difference. This indicates errors in paper trails exist and new research needs to be initiated in an effort to locate errors and correct the miss information that continues to surround our lineage.

To see DNA results visit: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/BEACHDNAPROJECT/default....

For Y-DNA results (male lineage) click on YDNA results or mtDNA for mitochondrial.

If the hot link does not work, copy paste the complete URL.

Richard Clayton Poppleton is my biological grandfather. I have been searching information on his family for my mother. His girls were placed in foster care in the 60's. Last contact with him was in 1982, with very little contact before then. We dont even know if he is still alive. Any information you have on him or his family would be much appreciated. We would love to research our heritage.

BEACH & ROCKEFELLER FAMILY: SCHROEPPEL, OSWEGO NY

Searching my father's maternal line. Appreciate any information out there. I've been combing census records and Old Fulton History newspaper articles online.
Timeframe is 1840s - 1930s.

Catherine ROCKEFELLER (b june 1843) married a BEACH; and my dad thought it may have been a Martin Beach. I did see a Martin C Beach listed on the 1860 NY census as living in Schroeppel but he appears to be married to someone else.

Martin disappears and Catherine is sharing a home with mother Maria (nee Hubbs)and brother John, along with Catherine's children; Hattie and William (b.1867 d.1948) according to census record. Hattie dies in childhood. Young William works on the canal w/his uncle John, later becomes a dentist and lives in West Phoenix. William marries a Susan BROWN who bears him 3 children; Sylvia, Cora, and Frank. Susan dies giving birth to Frank in 1905. Cora was my grandmother.

So, whilst my great-grandfather was a BEACH he appears to have been raised by his maternal Rockefeller family. No mention is made of other Beach relations. I am trying to obtain any documentation on his Beach side.

Re: Eli and Eliza Beach of So. Carolina

Take care,
Susan
