Need to document the dates of death for Noble P (Peyton or Philix) Beall, born Franklin Co., GA and supposed to have died 1878 in Texas. Need same for his wife, Justianna Dickenson Hooper, b. 1802 SC and supposed to have died in 1880 in Texas. This couple started out in 1819 in GA, moved into Mississippi in the late 1830's and in residence there by the 1840's. Can not find them after 1860 in a census anywhere, would appreciate help in finding a will, probate record, gravestone, or Bible record that would prove the the date and location of their deaths.

Hi,

I think it may be helpful if you try to get the book written about 1947 by Effie Gwynn Bowie. The title is "Across The Years In Prince George's County Maryland. It has quite a few photos of old homes/plantations that belonged to Prince George's County residents. Another good place to look is in Historic newspapers about 1862 when slaves were given their freedom. Old wills would also be a treasure trove!

Happy hunting,

Hello Chuck,
I just recently discovered that I am the gg-grandson to William Cyrus Beall when I paid for a copy of my g-grandmother's social security application. My mother never knew who her grandmother's parents were. I descended from William's daughter Mary. I am putting family history together for my mother who is 88 years old. It would be great if we could compare notes. I am also fascinated with my family history; however I don't know much about this line as of yet. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Dean Paddock

12 apr 2012

From Warren Forsythe – genealogy118 (at) http://wc.rootsweb.com

--for database ildaunewtest at http://wc.rootsweb.com

CORRECTION! :

I MADE A MISTAKE --IN WHAT I SENT TO YOU YESTERDAY:

THE BENJAMIN BELL WHO MARRIED 1767 IN SALEM, MASS.

WAS NOT SAME AS THE BENJAMIN BEAL WHO MD 1772 NEWBURY, MA

--and actually, contrary to my delusion, Newbury lies closer to NH, than it is to Salem.

-

So I’ll correct their family trees ASAP on internet and on new.familysearch.org

~Regretfully, Warren Forsythe genealogy118 (at) fairpoint.net

From: Peggy Durack

Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 9:39 PM

To: genealogy118@fairpoint.net

Subject: RE: DAR #A008689 Benj Bell ?=? Benj Beal?

Dear Warren,

As it happens, I am descended from John Beal who came from England on the “Fortune” in 1652. His family lived primarily in Hingham, MA. Another Beal also came on the “Fortune” and settled in Marblehead, MA. Unfortunately, my Beal genealogy doesn’t show the Benjamin you mention at all.

After looking at all the records that I can find, I think it’s a stretch to think that Benjamin Bell, father of Abigail & Sarah, is one and the same as Benjamin Beal, son of Zachariah Beal. Two reasons:

1) Attached pages from The Prominent Families of the United States of America, for the Carney family, refer to Benjamin Bell “of Salem, Mass.” which makes sense since that’s where Abigail Meservey & her family lived, where she and Benjamin married and both girls were born. There is no mention of Newbury at all.

2) The Newbury records show Zachariah Beal “of York” and records show that he is from York, Maine. The Essex Antiquarian gives a summary of his marriage and children, which includes Benjamin Beal with one marriage and names only one child, Nabby. No mention of Salem at all. No mention of a first marriage.

I just don’t see the cross-over. If Benjamin Beal’s first wife was Abigail Meservey from Salem who died and he married 2nd Katharine Noyes, then why weren’t the girls with him and his 2nd wife? In order to make the leap between the two men, then there needs to be some evidence in one of the family records.

Even if Nabby is a nickname for Abigail, and Abigail Bell and Nabby Beal are born the same year, it’s still a stretch for me without some evidence that the two families might have lived in the same places.

Take a look at the “Bell information” that I’ve attached. The Essex Antiquarian lists multiple Bell families that appear to go between Salem & Danvers, which are very close together. I suspect you will find your Bell parents there – maybe George Bell & Sarah Lander who married in 1740? Benjamin and Abigail named a daughter, Sarah.

Maybe I’m missing something. Let me know what you think…

Peggy
11 apr 2012
from Warren Forsythe – genealogy118 (at) fairpoint.net
for database ildaunewtest at http://wc.rootsweb.com
-
Thanks again so much for your help!

a Benjamin Beal was born 18 July 1745 on vital records of Newbury,Essex,MA
same identical man married 7 June 1772 to Catherine Elizabeth Noyes bapt 4 Sep 1748 Newburyport,Essex,MA dtr of William Noyes
That Benjamin assumed dead on 21 Nov 1775
when his wife Catherine remarried Robinson Heydon 21 Nov 1775 son of Samuel Haydon and Dorcas Robinson,
in a marriage record reportedly found both in Newbury,Essex,MA and Gloucester, Essex,MA where groom was from.
-
Now I, Warren Forsythe, post at
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...
admittedly speculative possibility that the above Benjamin Beal/Beel may have been spelled also Bell
and may have had an earlier wife in Salem Essex,MA

The main attractions are that no identity around Salem seems findable for any name like Benjamin Bell, and indeed
the only known Benjamin Bell in Essex County MA contemporary with this man lived near the NH border, and seems to have remained there throughout these times.
Less importantly the Catherine Noyes marriage did come sequentially 2 years after the wife of Benj Bell was last known alive. I note that Catherine was about 6 months pregnant at the time of their 7 Jun 1772, due to birth record of their daughter Nabbe Beal 8 Sept 1772 in Newbury, Essex, MA.

The significant drawbacks to the above earlier-marriage-for-Benjamin speculation is that Nabbe (baptismal record name reportedly on 9 Nov 1772 in Newburyport Essex,MA) has been presumed to have also carried the name Abigail Beal, possibly so named in 8 Sep 1772 birth record. DISCREPANCY HERE WITH BENJAMIN BELL ALREADY FATHER OF AN ABIGAIL BELL born 1770 IN SALEM ESSEX MA.
--The DAR #A008689 Benjamin Bell record compiles the Salem,MA father in 1770 of Abigail Bell as enlisting while residing in Danvers MA oct 1776 in military. However the NSDAR has labeled the record as having unconfirmed identities by modern DAR standards.
-
Anyway, I call your attention to
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...
and would love to hear further evidence or evaluation f what I’ve posted ther eon internet.
~~Appreciatively, Warren Forsythe -- genealogy118 (at) fairpoint.net

Re: Ninian Beall

She possibly married Ninian Beall II, the son of Col Ninian. He would have BECOME Ninian Senior after the birth of his son, Ninian III, because Colonel Ninian would have died by that time (d. 1717). Socially, the father becomes "senior" when the son is born, if the grandfather has passed on, so family records may indicate this. For genealogy, they usually go by Col. Ninian, Ninian Jr, and Nininan 3rd. Hope this helps.

The Beall genealogy site on ancestry.com geneforum states that Fielder M.M. Beall book contains many errors. However, it may be helpful for overall genealogy. I have not read it, but I think you can get copies of it from either ABE Books or a genealogy historical website (try Maryland or Virginia).

I am also a descendant of Ninian by George Beall (of Georgetown) through Samuel Beall (or Bealle, pronounced "beel" not "bell")
He went to Kentucky and his son Samuel Jr. married Elizabeth DuVal of Bardstown, KY, Oct. 1833. I believe that Samuel was orphaned young and raised by his uncle(?) Norborne or Norbenne Beall, Spring Station, Louisville or Bardstown, KY, area. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Beall DuVall who moved to Austin, Travis County, TX (she is buried in the Oakwood Cemetary which can be found on the internet). Her daughter, Helen Beall Houston, was my grandmother.

I would greatly appreciate the information you have on Ninian Beall, b. 1625 in Scotland. There seems to be a difference of opinion on his birthdate and Scottish roots. If he was born in 1625 but not in Largo, Scotland, then where? And, how do we know the date 1625 is accurate? I am supposedly a direct descendant, but I hav never seen anything other than the Caleb Clark Magruder biography.

Thank you so much for your interesting post on the land grand for Ninian Beall, Jr. I am a descendant through George Beall of MD and have been working with this confusing genealogy. Do you have any info on records for Ninian Beall, Sr? There is a difference of opinion on his birth record. I do not have any hard copies but my grandparents did do some research. They lived in Washington DC and her name was Helen Beall, originally from Austin TX. Her father was DuVal Beall of Bardstown Ky b. ca. 1842. I would appreciate any info you can give me. Feel free to use my email address if you like.

I'm interested in knowing what evidence has caused people to conclude that Ninian Beall (b. 1696) of Prince George's County, MD, married Katherine Barton, the widow of John Murdock. Ninian did in fact have a wife named Catherine, but that was Catherine Duke, as evidenced by her father's will. Yes, Ninian could have married a second Catherine after Catherine Duke died, but what evidence is there? Many sources list children named Barton and Marsham for Ninian; what is the source for these, and could those names not have come into the family through someone other than Ninian's wife, such as his mother, who may have been a Barton or a Marsham?

Looking through these old queries, I saw your post going back to 2002. My Beall lineage goes back to Ruth, daughter of Francis, who was the son of John, who was the son of Robert who came to Prince George's County Maryland in the late 1600's or early 1700's. Ruth married Jesse Carpenter; they were living in Prince George's County in the 1800 census.
They later moved to (West) Virginia and eventually to Belmont County Ohio. Do you have any further information on this line of the Bealls?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Lewis Bell resided in Fauquier Co, VA in 1810 and 1820, then moved to Miami Co, OH by 1830. He was born between 1766-1770 probably in Maryland. The surname was written as Bell in 1810, but it may have been spelled Beall, Beale, or Bealle earlier on.

He was married to Mary Anderson, dau of James Anderson of Prince William Co, VA, in about 1791.

Their children were: Fielding, William, James, Harrison, Vincent, Thomas, Margaret, Nancy, Elizabeth and Rebecca. They were intermarried with the Maddox, Anderson and Slagle families.

I am looking for information about Lewis Bell's parents and their origins.
Thomas Beall ca1780-1851 m. Catharina Holter Frederick Co MD

I am a descendant of William Thomas Beall 1821-1893 and Mary Rebecca Sponseller married 1841 in Frederick Co, Maryland and I believe he is the son of Thomas Beall and Catharina Holter above. Further, I believe Thomas may be the son of Daniel Beall ca1748-ca1835 of Montgomery Co, MD. I've seen postings of these relationships, but I have not found any documentation to support. So, my goal is to verify the lineage of Thomas Beall through land records, wills, etc. I am looking for another Beall researcher of this line to trade notes with. Thanks for any help!
