Just review old posts and thought you might be interested if you haven't gotten your answer yet. Caleb was in Hardin Co, KY from 1814 when he left Bradford Co, PA until about 1829 when he moved to Crawford Co, IN. He settled in the Little York area of Hardin Co.

For a brief time his brothers David and Joseph were also in Hardin Co, but both moved to Indiana to the area that would become Crawford Co.

You can find Caleb in the 1820 US Census for Kentucky.

Thank you so very much for the information and links.
Hattie Lyke was my great grandmother's sister so
what information I do have is mostly about the Lyke Family. Yes I would be happy to email you with any
information I find in my researching about George and his family.
I assume that you could obtain more information about George's crime by contacting the Colorado State Archives
http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/pen/prison.html
and requesting his inmate file. Provide them George's inmate number 10203.

You could also probably find out more about the child custody hearing by writing the Eagle County Court.

You might also obtain a copy of the divorce proceedings, as explained here:
http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/divorce/1garfield....

In those days, before "no Fault" divorces, the divorce record is generally quite telling.

George was the brother of the great-grandmother of a friend of mine for whom I have been researching. He has no personal nor family information about George or Hattie - the information we have comes from research in publicly available records.

If you have more information about George and his family or find out more, would you share. My email address is DawnaJL@aol.com.

I can also add one additional detail to what I previously posted. George and Hattie were married 20 Jan 1898 in Pitkin County, Colorado.
Is there anyway to find out what the unspeakable crime George Beals committed was? I never heard anything good about George but I did not know he was in the penitentiary.
Just the opposite about Hattie May Lyke. I have only heard good about her. I heard she was a wonderful grandmother. I wonder about the outcome of this hearing that took place. If the children were actually taken away from her.

Jesse Beals was the son of Jacob Beals (b. 1788) and Ann Beals (b. 1787). See Blackburn website for additional information - www.blackburn-tree.org.
George W. Beals born 1871 Nebraska

George W. BEALS was born in Sep 1871 in Ponca, Dixon County, Nebraska, son of Chester George BEALS and Rebecca Ann THAYER. George lived in White River, Rio Blanco County, Colorado during the 1900 census and in West Newcastle, Garfield County, Colorado during the 1910 census.

George married Hattie May LYKE daughter of Martin Delaus LYKE and Emma SHALLON or SHELTON in 1898. They were divorced in 1920 in Garfield County, Colorado [The divorce index on line gives surname as Bealz] and Hattie married again to George DUNPHY who was born about 1876 in Canada. Hattie was born in Aug 1877 in New York. She was living in Red Cliff, Eagle, Colorado.

George and Hattie BEALS had the following children, all born in Colorado:

i. George William BEALS born on 28 Aug 1898

ii. Leonard BEALS born about 1900/1

iii. Elaine May BEALS born on 24 Apr 1906 in New Castle, Garfield, Colorado. She died on 29 Aug 1929 in Red Cliff, Eagle, Colorado. She married Charles GILMER in 1925.

iv. Esther G. BEALS born on 13 Mar 1911, died in Aug 1978, married Mr. GLEIFORST.

v. Nina H. BEALS was born in 1916 in Colorado.

The Eagle Valley Enterprise, Eagle, Colorado Friday 8 Apr 1921:
The three young daughters of Mrs. Hattie Beals, wife of "Happy Jack" Beals, will have a hearing in the county court one day this week, on information of citizens of Red Cliff charging parental delinquency on the part of the mother, with a demand that the children be placed in a state home for protection. The girls are five, eleven and fifteen years of age. It is charged that the mother is not a fit person to raise the children and is bringing them up in improper surroundings. The father was sent to the penitentiary several years ago for an unspeakable crime committed while the family lived in Eagle. Since being released from the penitentiary, Beals has not rejoined his family which has been living in Red Cliff [Eagle County, Colorado].

The Colorado State Penitentiary Index
www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/pen/index.htm
lists George W.

I am seeking information on a Jesse Beals who reportedly married a Mary Ann Bowen who was born in Rhode Island. Jesse Beals' birthplace has been recorded as Rhode Island, New York, and Ohio. It appears they met and married in Ohio, then moved to Knox County Illinois in the 1850's. They may have been early members of the Universalist Church in Galesburg, with that denomination having Bowen adherents in Ohio. Jesse had died by 1870, but Mary Ann lived in Galesburg for a number of years after that.

Am seeking additional information on the parents and birthplaces of both Jesse Beals and Mary Ann Bowen.

Thank you,

Calvin Bandstra
calvinbandstra@iowatelecom.net

BEALS Extended Family Group Chart

I have inherited an Extended Family Group Chart that was compiled in the 1920's and 1930's by two of my grandmother Griffith's cousins.

The extended chart is written on white shelfpaper and is @ 4ft in length. It covers from my grandmothers parents, ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1864-1915) & ORA JANE BEALS (1869-1895) GRIFFITH, back multiple generations to about the 5th Century AD.

I have been able to put the chart on CD and am willing to share the information, as it appears, to anyone who may be related to the families on the chart. The primary family surnames are:

GRIFFITH, BEALS, MILLS, CONNELLY, BEESON, HAMMER, KNODE/KNOWD, JANEWAY, MENDENHALL, MILLIKIN, MAULSBY, GRIEST, MAINWARING, BOWATER, & CHOLMONDLEY. As well as connecting families.

I am willing to share the information to nayone who may find these names in their lineage, or for anyone who has a keen interest in a Group Chart that extends, by count, to @79AD (not proved as of this writing).

Evelynne
ritter5_69@earthlink.net

Sue, I'm not related to the Beals family directly, or maybe I am. I am also looking for a Beals, Pauline Beals. She was married to my grandfather, Walter Linwood Hopkins. He is buried in the Beals/Garland Cemetery. If you have any knowledge of Pauline or her daughter, supposedly my aunt, I would truely appreciate an email. Her daughter is listed as Mary Louise Hopkins in our family books but she was adopted by Arthur Crosswhite after he married Pauline. My grandfather died not long after the marriage. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance, Pam Hannah

I have this same line in my tree, and have also found several different dates. The information that I found, which may or may not be correct, is John Jacob Beals (May 27, 1650 Chichester, Sussex, England-Dec 17, 1726 Nottingham, Chester Co, PA). For Mary Jane Clayton (June 29, 1665 Chichester, Sussex, England-1726 Nottingham, Chester Co, PA). One thing that I found interesting is that their son John Beals, and a daughter Sarah Beals, both of their lines lead to the Harold line of my grandmother, Dorothy Harold.

Hi Kurt:

I just saw an old posting about the Beals family in Iowa, referring to the Cedar Rapids Beals possibly being connected to your line who settled in Newton Iowa. Well, my mother's maiden name was Beals. My mother was born in Muskegon, Michigan, she died in Cedar Rapids Iowa in 2003.
My grandparents names were Charles Beals who married Mary Celine Belva.
Charles Beals parents were: Elias W Beals who married Mary C Bird.
Mary Celine Belva's parents were: Jean Bapiste Belva who married Anna Catherine Goffinet.
I would love to connect to the Beals line if possible, especially if any are in Iowa. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sincerely: Pamela
