Hi,

I'm still researching but the mystery of my ggg-grandmother has been solved - and quite the story it is! Despite what she in all likelihood told the family, she had only two sisters... and no brother Charles.

Sorry I can't be of any help to you with this.

-- Nancy

Hi,
I don't know if you are still researching, but myself and my husband thinks that Charles Gilmour, who married Ursula could be his ggg grandfather, we do have a bit of info so maybe we can compare?,

The Ernest and William on this list are probably in error, since they are the sons of John Beamish, butcher of Botlon. He had 3 sons and 2 daughters. One was a butcher in To, one was a butcher in Bolton and one was a druggist or he sold drugs and he moved quite a bit in the US.

Richard and Sarah Beamish of Bolton had 8 sons, so that makes quite a few possible. 2 moved to Indiana, but the rest pretty much settled in Peel and York county.

In addition, there quite a few other Beamish families who were cousins or possibly siblings of Richard Beamish.

There was a John Beamish of Etobicoke who had 6 sons, and they settled all over.

I have a Francis Wright Beamish born in 1905 in Bolton, who married a Atta Berry in Brampton in 1924. He had a brother named Ernest. Francis Wright was a son of Victor, who was a son of Francis, who was a son of Richard and Sarah of Bolton. Does that ring any bells?

I also have the following Francis Nathaniel

Francis Nathaniel Beamish - born Toronto on 17 Oct. 1908
Where born: 360 Quebec St.
Father: James Henry Beamish, Local Manager, Conger Coal Co.
Mother: Julie Edith Steen
Dr. H.H. Perfect
Informant: father
Reg. 10 Nov. 1908
Indexed as #057161-08

He is son of James Henry Beamish, son of Francis Beamish J.P. of Erindale. Who himself a son of Francis Beamish and Elizabeth Slater, who was somehow not sure related to Richard and Sarah.

They are the only one so far who kind of fits your date. You will have to get your grandfather's death registration and more importantly his marriage registration. The birth will probably be on Ancestry if you look. The marriage will probably be too.

Good luck.

Nobody has gotten their long form birth certs yet either. It looks like I'm the only one with an interest in knowing about him.

The only possible info I have is he might have been approximately 68 or younger when he died in 1974.
I know it's a long shot but maybe somebody has info that I can't find.

Thanks for replying so quickly too :D

Hi

I only have 3 daughters for Ernest Crozier Beamish (1864-1940) and his wife Sarah Alice Morrison (1862-1942) But then it's not my line, so I just picked up the ones I got the baptisms or deaths for.

What are the dates for you grandfather Frank Beamish? Did he live in the Bolton area? There were quite a few different Beamish families in and around Toronto, and Frank or Francis is very, very common in Beamish.

ERNEST C4 BEAMISH (JOHN 3, RICHARD 2, FRANCIS 1).

Children of ERNEST C BEAMISH are:
i. ERNEST5 BEAMISH.
ii.
Beamish, County Cork

George Beamish (born 1812)were married Frances Anne Hornibrook (born 1825) 20 Aug 1857 at Knockavilly, County Cork, Ireland.
George was the son of Thomas Beamish. Frances Ann was the daughter of John Thomas Hornibrook
And Ellenor Wiseman.
George and Frances Ann had three daughters Maria Frances Beamish (born 1859), Ellen Wiseman Beamish (born 1861) and Mary Georgina Beamish (born 1866). All were born at Bandon, County Cork, Ireland.

In “A New BEAMISH Book complied by Charles Beamish” it says
George c-28 Mar 1812 Ballymodan; Par-Thomas = ?; m-20 Aug 1857 Brinny Frances Anne HORNIBROOK dau of John Thomas Hornibrook of Rockfort; d-1898 Lambeth 1d 282. Farmed Mt Meehan, nr Bandon. C-Maria Frances, Ella, Mary Georgina (25)
Ella b-c1860; Par-George = Frances A HORNIBROOK; m-? DESPARD (25)
Maria Frances Par-George = Frances HORNIBROOK; m-? DESPARD (25)
Mary Georgina (Bertie) c-21 Jun 1866; Par-George = Frances A HORNIBROOK; m-1897 Newtownards Dr Hugh BENNETT. As a widow living Bangor, Co Down in 1937. (25)

I think Mary and Maria spouses were reversed.
I found where Ellen Wiseman Beamish married Vernon Davys Despard in 1894 at Bandon, County Cork, Ireland and had a son George Francis Despard in 1895 at Newtownards, County Down, Ireland.
Mary Georgina Beamish married Francis Green Despard on 31 Aug 1897 at Newtownards, County Down, Ireland. They had a son William Beamish Despard there on 28 Dec 1900 and died 09 Jan 1901.

Vernon Davys Despard (born 1860) and Francis Green Despard (born 1863) were sons of William Francis Despard (1824-1904) and Ann Reed Davys(1830-1864). All of County Down, Ireland.

If the Beamish Book is correct but slightly reversed Maria Frances Beamish must have married Dr Hugh Bennett at Newtownards, County Down, Ireland.
Searching for info on my Beamish ancestors. Minnie Theresa Beamish was born in 1887 in Poole, Dorset. Her parents were William Abraham Beamish (Bandon, Cork 1850 I think) and Anna Pullman (have Minnie's birth certificate). I think they moved back to Ireland before Minnie came to the US and married Joseph Mintern. Any info much appreciated
thanks
Regina McNulty

Hi Erika! My maiden name is Beamish. I'm just starting my journey on my Beamish ancestors so this "Beamish Book" is entirely new to me! My grandfather was Harry Beamish, born 2-22-1896. He died when I was 2 but I heard from my mum and dad that his family came to Ottowa, Canada from Ireland. Story goes that Harry's mother's maiden name was Mac Janette (or some variation of spelling thereof). My Grandmother Beamish was Edith Arnold Beamish who died when I was only 8. My father was an only child who died in 2000 and my mum died in 2008 and I have only one brother who isn't interested in "finding out where he came from." Might you have info on the Beamish side of my family? Thank you so much in advance for any help you might provide! Nancy Beamish Moorman

Hi Betty,

I know this message is a bit old, but I was at the Anglican Archives in Toronto today researching something else and I saw the following baptisms on the microfilm for Cavan Parish (which is next to Manvers) they have many records for neighboring townships.

1845 Baptisms
Margaret d/o Francis and Jane Beamish, Manvers, born 26 Feb. 1845 baptized 18th May 1845, by Robt Harding.
1846 Baptisms
Mary d/o Francis and Jane Beamish, Manvers, born May 24 1846, baptized 23rd August 1846, by H. Brent.

1845 Burials
Jane Beamish, Manvers, Buried Sept 8 1845, aged 64 years by me, S. A???? (very hard to read)

I usually only research the Toronto Beamish but I wrote those down. I did not see any other Beamish but after 1850 the register seem to be only for Cavan and does not have Manvers persons in it.

If you do WOODS as well there are tons of Wood family in it.
I found the following information in the book "Marriage bonds of Ontario, 1803-1834" by Thomas Wilson published in 1985. The Toronto Public Library has 4 copies. On page 214, the following bond is listed:

BEAMISH, William, of Ernestown, surgeon, & Anne Purdy, of Kingston Tp., spr. b: Elijah Beach, of Kingston Tp., yeoman, and John Rutter, of the town of Kingston, hatter. 30 January 1832 at Kingston. [2662]

Also in the "Commercial directory of Scotland, Ireland and the four most Northern Counties of England" for 1820-21, and 1822 which is available at Ancestry.com there are 2 Beamish who are doctors, since professions often run in family, they might be related.

John Beamish, Kinsale, physician, date 1820
J.S. Beamish, physician, South Mall, Cork City, date 1820.

The City of Toronto and the Home District Commercial Directory and Register with Almanack and Calendar for 1837 reprinted September 1987, available at Toronto Public Library and on their digital collection:
And, listed under Medical Board of Upper Canada Licenciaetes passed by the Board and Allowed to Practice:
William Beamish, jun.

William Adderly BEAMISH s/o Isaac Simpson BEAMISH, Cork > Kingston > Belleville, Ontario

I am researching the Beamish of Toronto who are not closely related, but I would love to get a copy of the Kingston Beamish to exclude them from my research.

Re: William Beamish

I believe this is the correct William Beamish, born in Toronto Gore, Peel County, Ontario. His father was born in Ireland.

Samuel Beamish owns other half of Lot 31, conc. 10 in Gore in 1859 Tremayne's
I believe he sold his share to his nephew and moved to Grey or Dufferin County.

His parents are Samuel Beamish born in Cork circ 1810, Ireland and his mother is Jane Harper born in England. Samuel Beamish came to Upper Canada in 1825 with his father John Beamish. John Beamish petitionned for land in 1825 and received 200 acres since he had 6 children. John Beamish farmed in Etobicoke Township, but his sons Thomas and Samuel settled in nearby Toronto Gore twp, very close to Albion. I have a lot more information on them if you need. Thomas also had a son called William a few years younger. They are both on 1852 census, but the other William married Mary Keys:

I am looking for information on Jane Beamish who married Richard Copithorn and who lived in Albion.

I am trying to find out where Jane is from in Ireland, I assume West Cork, but more precisely and whether she was related to Richard Beamish from Albion. Her father Samuel is living with them in 1852, 1861 and 1871. I want to know where Samuel is from if possible.

I have the census for 1852 and 1861 and all the way to 1911 as well as land records.

FAMILY OF JANE BEAMISH COPPERTHORN
Home / 1852 / Canada West / Peel (county) / 268 Albion township part 4 / p. 12d, 13a, (135) from www.automatedgenealogy.com

33 Coperworth, Richard Farmer Ireland Church of England 35 M
34 Coperworth, Jain Church of England 25 F
35 Coperworth, Luke Church of England 5 M
36 Coperworth, Elezabeth Church of England 3 F
37 Coperworth, Catherin Church of England 1 F
38 Baymesh, Samuel Farmer Ireland Church of England 70 M
39 Wolfe, An Servant Church of England 20 F

Samuel Beamish is living with his daughte Jane Copperthorne already in 1852.
He appears to be married to An Wolfe.

I know your post is a bit old, but I am reaserching the descendants of Richard and Sarah Beamish of Albion, Peel, Ontario. 2 of their sons Thomas and Young went to Indiana, as mentionned in their brother's obituary.
Bolton Enterprise Friday December 1914. Bolton has lost another of its old residents. Mr John BEAMISH passed away at his home on Friday evening last. He had been in declining health for some time, therefore his death was not unexpected. The late John BEAMISH was born in this district 79 years ago and had resided in Bolton for the past fifty years. He always took a lively interest in the affairs of the village and had served at different times in the council and sshool board. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs JAMES and Mrs WALSHAW, and three sons, Ernest of Bolton, Wm. G of Toronto and John T of Portland, Oregon. His surviving brothers are Benjamin and George of Bolton and Thomas and Young of Indiana. The funeral took place on Monday to Christ Church where service was conducted by the pastor, Rev W S WESTNEY, after which interment took place at Laurel Hill Cemetery

Christopher Webb and Ann Beamish
I came accross your query while researching the Beamish in Peel County, Ontario. I have a Richard Beamish and his wife Sarah Swanton sharing land with Christopher and Ann Webb in 1837 in Toronto Gore, Peel County. They are both listed on the same concession 8, lot 12 in the 1837 Home directory. when I searched the land records at the Ontario Archives, I found out that the lot was clergy land and it was owned by Ann Webb, widow and she sold it in 1844.

I had no idea where she went, but Richard Beamish and his family moved to Albion township, a few miles away.

When searching baptisms records in St. James cathedral in Toronto for the 1830s, i found baptisms for children of Christopher and Ann where Richard and his wife were the sponsors (godparents) and the reverse also, Christopher and Ann were sponsors of Richard's children.

I suspect that Richard and Ann are siblings. Richard is from Milane townland, Fanlobbus parish, Cork County. He came to Canada around 1831 with 2 children. I have no idea if Richard's family is closely related to the Beamish brewery but they are from same general area.

Hopefully, you will get this information. I would be interested in where Ann Webb lived after Toronto Gore and about her children. According to my records, Christopher died around 1837-1838. How do you know that Ann's maiden name is Beamish? Any records or family history?

There were a lot of cousin marriages to confuse things further. Their children were:
1) Mary (Minnie) Beamish MORRIS m. John MORRIS
2) Hungerford MORRIS
3) Elizabeth Grace French MORRIS m. Marmion BEAMISH (moved to Tasmania)
4) Richard Tonson Evanson MORRIS d 9 Dec 1927 m.
I see that one of the children is named Melian Twogood EVANSON. Richard's first wife was named Melian Towgood O'DONOVAN. This lady was born between 1770-1780 in Ballincalleh, Cork, Ireland. As you now know, she was married in 1812 and died 1813, possibly in child birth, in view of the name of the child. Just a thought.

I don't know much about my ancestry but am interested in learning more about my "Beamish" heritage. The info. I do have is that my great, great grandfather immigrated to Canada from Cork, Ireland and was also part of the Beamish family brewery. My grandfather's name was Del, short for Delacor Beamish VII. Our family has made it to Delacor X with the birth of my brother's son 6 years ago. That's about all I know the rest is blank....

I have a good deal of information on the Beamish family including letters, photos, wills etc. copies of which which I can supply if you would like to contact me at olly_2sheds@yahoo.co.uk. The William Beamish I was enquiring about was one of the sons of Benjamin Beamish, himself a son of Isaac Beamish born c1718. Both Willliam and his brother Henry went to the USA but I don't know what happened to them. My own line is 1.Isaac,2.Jacob, 3.William, 4.Amos, 5.Henry, 6.Charles, 7.Charles the last named being me.
Please let me know where you fit in.

Mary Ann Beamish (b. c. 1833 Dunmore, Clonakilty, Ireland)

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone can help me?

I descend from MARY ANN BEAMISH who married Thomas Atkinson on 7 June 1852 in Poplar, London, England. On their marriage record it lists her father as RICHARD BEAMISH, laborer. I have been unable to determine which Richard Beamish this is, when was he born & where. Also on the marriage record the witnesses are listed as THOMAS BEAMISH & ELEANOR BEAMISH. I'm not sure how they are related to Mary Ann Beamish. Where were her parents?

I will attach the image for the marriage, and also an image of the 1851 England Census for a Thomas Beamish & wife, Ellenor.
I have other census images for the Beamish family members, but still can't piece it all together.

I further have learned that Mary Ann (Beamish) Atkinson's mother's name was MARY (born between 1789 - 1811) depending on what sources you use and she died 23 Oct. 1880 in Poplar, London, England.
Mary Ann (Beamish) Atkinson had a brother RICHARD born (about 1830 in Ireland) married an Ellen (possibly McCovey). Richard died 27 June 1884 at 3 Dingle Court, All Saints, Poplar, London, England (Source death cert).
I will attach the 1861 England census for All Saints, Poplar which shows my Richard Beamish with wife Ellen and son George. Also listed directly below in same address a MARY BEAMISH - Married age 63. Is this his mother? Where is her husband Richard Beamish? I found also on the 1861 England Census - in the Poplar Union Workhouse a Richard Beamish age 75....could this be who I'm looking for??

Mary Ann also had a sister Margaret (b.about 1842 to 1844 in Dunmore, Clonakilty, Ireland) Never married. Found living in the same household one census, but basically stayed in Poplar area.

I would love to find which RICHARD BEAMISH is mine? The father to my Mary Ann (1833), Richard (1830) Margaret (1842-1844).

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
