Hi there, I believe you have an Emma Meade in your tree....My fathers grandmother was a Lillian Rosemary Meade, born around 1881 in NJ, USA. I believe she had a sister named Emma, also an Elizabeth, and Agnes and brother Maurice. Her father was John Meade, mother was Hannah Fitzpatrick, both from Ireland.
Does this match anything you have on your Emma Meade? TXS
Beth

I am interesting in knowing more about the Barefields near or on Black Creek. That is South of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A Barefield family lived on the Tallahala creek near Runnels Town, Mississippi. It seems like there was a Henry Barefield who would have been born in the middle 1800s in Choctaw County, Alabama. One of his sisters was Angeline Barefield (1874), father is Peter Barefield/Burfield from Georgia, mother is Arabella Smith from Alabama. The family lived in Choctaw County for many years.

sometime this past summer I spoke with a man named William Bearfield who lives in Texas he then refered me to his sister. It appears the Bearfield's from Ok originated in Arkansas having been forced to go to OK to live on a choctaw indian reservation during the time of the ousting of the cherokee indiansfrom the region. The name was spelled Barfield and after the civil war James changed his name spelling to Bearfield the reason for the name change is still unclear to the family, His wife was Tabitha Roberson. Not sure if this helps

Bill, the Bearfield name variations are pretty much the same here in England. I've seen related families also use Barefield and Barfield as well as Burfield and Berfield. I'm not sure where the name originates here, but suspect the Oxfordshire/Berkshire area.

There is also a town called Bearfield in Wiltshire.

Lori

Our Bearfields lived in London, but I suspect they had origins in the Reading area (not proved). I've had trouble researching our London line, but in the process have come across a George Bearfield Jr. & Sr. from Poplar, later moved to Islington/Clerkenwell area. Am happy to share what I have.

Lori

Hello Mark

I have a couple of Poplar Bearfields in my database, I'm just not sure which are related to mine (actually, my husband's family) and how. Do you have a George Charles Bearfield, born abt 1838 in Poplar, son of George and Mary Bearfield. George Charles married Letitia and had several children.

I found him in the 1851 and 1861 census living at Barron Street in Islington. My husband is descended from Charles Bearfield, born City of London, appx 1810. In 1846 our Charles was living a couple of houses away from George Charles. In 1871 and 1881 George Charles is living at 16 Prospect Place, later the home of Charles Bearfield J.'s wife, so there must be a family connection.

I do also have some stray Poplar Bearfields which I've not connected to either family. Am happy to share what I have.

regards
Lori

Daniel Bearfield actually is the son of David Bearfield born 1841 Pa and Helen Della Knepp, my grandfather being Charles Albert Daniel's Brother. As a child it was told that the Bearfield's were of an Indian decent I to date have found no connection but My Uncle Billy said we are of Souix Decent from South Dakota. Again no proof have more info but not much if you need it

Bearfield/Barefield in London

I am researching any Bearfield or Barefield families in the London area. I am particularly intererested in George Bearfield born 1803 of Poplar. HIs son was George Charles Bearfield who later moved to Islington and Clerkenwell. Also of interest is Charles Bearfield born about 1810 "City of London". He lived in Clerkenwell and had the following children: Charles Jr., Emma, Clara, Walter, William, Hannah Ada (Annie), Rose and Amy. The family relocated to Worcester around 1860.

I would appreciate any information and am happy to share what I have.
Lori Weinstein

Hey folks! George Barefield (he spelled it Bearfield) is my great-grandfather, too. George's son, Orvel, was my grandfather and my father was Cecil (who went by Lawrence). I ordered the SS-5 for George and Orvel under the Freedom of Information Act. George lists his father as "Wash. Bearfield" and his mother as Elizabeth Hess. I've had no luck in getting any further with any degree of certainty, but I suspect that the William and Hannah "Barfield" who had a son listed in the Raleigh County birth records as G.W. are George's grandparents. I'm still looking for evidence. I met George a time or two. Orvel and my grandmother, Pearl Toney, separated after a devastating house fire in the 40's, and my grandmother had no use for anyone named Barefield other than her children and grandchildren after that. That made it hard to associate with that side of the family, but dad and I did manage to sneak a couple of visits in over the years. Dad told me George was a big drinker and loved to dance. Dad did, too, and so do I <<grin>>. I'm a little more responsible about it than they were, though. Let me hear from you at mbarefield@stargate.net.
