Death of Prof. J. E. Beason

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 26 June 1891...

Prof. J. E. Beason Killed

We learned Wednesday that Prof. J. E. Beason who lives on his farm near Kemp had been killed by one A. H. Everett a tenant on his place.

Mr.Beason and Everett had quarreled the Friday before about some cotton which Mr. Beason claimed Everett was not properly working and parted unfriendly. Tuesday, so reports go Beason went top Everett's house where he met his death at the hands of Everett. Mr. Beason was favorably known as a good citizen and the Times-Star is very sorry to hear of this tragic death.

Everett was arrested by Sheriff Keller and lodged in jail where the editor of the Kaufman Review had a talk with him. He stated that his wife was subject to heart trouble and had become prostrated on hearing of the quarrel between him and Prof. Beason of last Friday. After detailing what was said in that quarrel Everett tells the following about the killing:

On Sunday following Dr. Ball, my family physician was at my house to see my wife, and I asked him to go and see Beason andsee if he could not compromise our trouble, as I thought it would kill my wife, she having heart trouble. I offered to compromise the trouble with Beason through Ball. Ball advised me to stay at home until he came back and saw me. I did so. On yesterday evening, June 23, Mr. Beason came to my house. When he came I was away from the house but had my gun with me, my dogs were beying something and I had gone to see what they had. As I was returning and was within 150 or 200 years of the house, I heard my daughter screaming, I thought my wife was worse, and not thinking about Beason being there, I struck a run for the house and did not see Beason until I was within twenty feet of the door. I passed on by the door, out towards where Mr. Beason was. I said: "Mr. Beason I wish you would leave here, you have caused my wife to be on her dying bed now." He cursed and said he would not leave, as he was on his own premises. I remarked to him; "Friend Beason, if you don't leave here I will hurt you and that mighty quick." He threw one hand up to his breast and the other down to his pocket. He opened his shirt bosom and tole me to shoot, all the time advancing on me, and when within 15 or 20 feet of me, I shot him with a double barrel shot gun loaded with buckshot. I only shot once. I shot him in the breast. He stepped back two or three steps and sunk down backwards. As soon as I saw him fall I turned and went into the house to my wife, who I found in a fainting condition. I sent two of my children for Mr. Kennedy, a neighbor to come and he did so. I remained at home until Sheriff Keller came after me.

At this distance from the scene of the tragedy we have been unable to obtain any facts from the Besaon side of the case. Beason was well known and was liked well ad far as we ever heard and as far as we know was not fussy or troublesome to get along with.

Robert Lee Beason

I have been searching for my father's uncle since 1975 with no luck as to his death, and place of burial. He was born 30 Jan. 1880 in Henrietta, Clay Co., Texas to Jesse and Mary Beason. He married Maggie Settles in Oklahoma and had one son Ernest. He appears on 1920 El Reno, Canadian Co., Oklahoma census with family as a Rock Island employee. I know he was in Geary, Blaine Co., Oklahoma around 1932 as his brother Jesse L. passed away there and he is mentioned in the Obituary. After that he disappears and I have not found him on any census, SSDI or locations. If anyone has information concerning Robert I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
Kay (Beason) LaMunyon

I just came across your message here, while searching for info. on my great great grandfather, Willis Mitchell. I believe the Willis you are looking for is buried in the same cemetary as my great grandparents. Where to begin...?

My great grandparents are buried at the Rocky Mount Cemetary near Robeline in Sabine Parish. Their names are:
MITCHELL, John W. ( April 8, 1872 / December 8, 1940 )
and
(Double Stone)
MITCHELL, Kizzie E. ( January 20, 1879 / July 17, 1957 )

Near them in this same cemetary are:
MITCHELL, Willis ( March 5, 1889 / August 21, 1956 )
and (Double Stone)
MITCHELL, Stella ( December 25, 1892 / November 16, 1973 )

Since my great grandmother Kizzie's father was named Willis Mitchell, I always assumed the Willis here, since he was 10 years younger than her, was probably her brother, named after their father.

If that is correct the parents of Kizzie and Willis are Willis Mitchell and Elizabeth Mathew. Younger Willis could also have had a different mother though.

Here is a link to the cemetary record:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/rockycem.htm

Here is the death record of Kizzie:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/sabine/vitals/deaths...

I hope this helps, and I hope to hear from you about this. If you have any other information I would really appreciate hearing about what you know.

Sincerely,
Diana Mitchell Plaisance

P.S. My dad's name happens to be Aubrey also.

A Burton S. Beeson was born ca 1823...I find him again in Pitkin, Vernon, LA, where Jonathan E Beeson family ended up. I suppose he could have been a brother of Jeremiah and Jonathan Beeson (Jeremiah, father of Jonathan E Beeson)...There are land records for him in Ark in 1860. Someone long ago told me that he was descended from him, and that he was another child of Jeremiah and Jane Chambers Beeson. However, if the date of 1823 is correct, this is not plausible. I have seen a Burton Benson Beeson listed as one of their children, but I don't see this child in the 1850 census of Drew County, Ark, where Jane and her children are enumerated. (Look under BURON in the index). Who are Bunk and Callie Mathews Beason?

Susie, Can you take the Beason family back a little farther. I have a very large Beeson-Beason Genealogy and can take it back to about 1680. If we can make a connection, I can take your family back. I work on all lines and share freely all information that is in my files. Most of it was freely given and that is the way that I give it out. Freely.

William E. Beason
JEUS IS LORD
