Joyce Elaine Coates, 50, of Delaware, Ohio, formerly of Chillicothe,(Ross county)Ohio, passed from this life Thursday morning, June 4, 2009 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus (Franklin county)Ohio following an extended illness.
She was born December 26, 1958 in Chillicothe, Ohio the daughter of James W. and Rosemary (Hatfield) Beatty. On October 23, 1993 she married Rev. Lamont A. Coates who survives.
Also surviving is mother, Rosemary Wimbley; and her step-father, Robert Wimbley, Chillicothe; her mother-in-law, Gwendolyn Marshall, Detroit, MI; daughters, Tamara Coates, Youngstown, Ohio, and Lamonica Coates, Houston, TX; sons, Jeremy (Patricia) Coates, Youngstown, OH, Lamont Coates II and Lavalle Coates, both of Shreveport, LA; seven grandchildren; sisters, Kimberly Lowe, Chillicothe, Gloria (Ron) Inmen, Camden, MO, Janet (Richard) Netter, Chillicothe and Jacqueline (Rudolph) Hobbs, Plainsville, IL; a brother, James Beatty, Chillicothe; a special family friend, Edna Ramey, Chillicothe; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her father preceded her in death.
Joyce was an aftercare director for the Delaware City Schools and had served as activities director in nursing facilities in Mansfield and Delaware. She was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church and the Second Baptist Church in Delaware. She was devoted to her church families and served in the ministry of music in various churches. She will be missed by her family, friends and her church family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in the Zion Baptist Church with Pastor J. Troy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009 in the Second Baptist Church, Delaware, OH where her husband is Pastor.
