Great! My dad grew up in the old wood framed house that used to be where the garden was (in 1997) next to the brick house.

He was born up around the corner where Donna Fox lived, and then, after a number of years there where you grew up (on the west edge of Section 21, Sheridan Twp, near Burden), they moved to Kansas.

I do know a bit more about your family lines, if you are interested, Veronica Lynn. Write me privately, Lechevrier at earthlink dot net.

Thank you,

Bill Strickland
Hi, my grandmother was a Beaulac (Madeleine) and often told the story of how her grandfather, two brothers and a sister, Jeanne Beaulac (later Lavalle) fled the second French Revolution (from Normandy?) and came to the Vermont @1850.

Henry married a Irish lady named Mary ONeal who supposedly ran a blacksmith's shop outside of Bennington (or Burlington?) . However, the ONLY trace I can find so far is on an 1930 death certificate of one of Henry & Mary's daughters, confirming their names. If this sounds family story sounds familiar to anyone, please email me! Thanks...!

Ellen

Maureen, Thank you so very much for your answer to my query. What name do you record Eusebie/Elizabeth/Emilie under and what name is she recorded under in the 1850 Swanton Census and how old is she? She married my gggrandfather's older brother, Jean Baptiste Alphonse Bessette/John B. Bassett in a civil ceremony in 1822 in Swanton, under the name Elizabeth Bolio, then in a Catholic ceremony in St. Cesaire, Quebec in Aug 1826, with the name Eusebie Beaulac. They had a daughter Rosellie who was legitimized at the same time they were married. She was 14 months old, making her born about June 1825. Do you know when Eusebie was born? She is recorded as still being a minor at her 1826 wedding. I assume there are other children between 1826 and 1835. I do notice that there is a gap of 10 years between the children you listed in the 1850 census also. Is John B. Bassett still living at this census also? As for her mother, Marguerite Gray, the last name is written like "Gray" in the Catholic repertoire of their marriage, with the quotes, which is quite unusual so you may be correct about the Indian. E-mail me at samjan@coopresources.net Jan

She is the sister to my ggreatgrandfather and I have four children listed in the 1850 US census for Swanton Vt. p. 669: William born 1835, Frances born 1837 , Albert born 1847 and Alicia born 1850 all in Vermont. Beyond that I don't have anything. I suspect that her mother Marguarite Gray is Indian but have not proof. What is your connection? The name is originally Desmarais dit Beaulac and I have her father traced back to France but haven't had any luck with her mother's parents who were from Albany (NY?) I have done a lot of searching but can't find their marriage but if they were Indians it might not have been recorded (Church of England records from that date have a number of Indians but no names recorded for most ) I also searched the Dutch Reformed records but Indians are mostly Mohawks. Let me know if we have some connections.

Maureen, I am interested in the fact that you have Beaulacs from Swanton/Highgate VT. I have the marriage of Jean Baptiste Bessette to Esuelie/Elisabeth/Emilie Beaulac both as a civil marriage in Swanton in 1822 and a Catholic Rehabilitation marriage in St. Cesaire, Quebec in 1826. She was the daughter of Paul Beaulac, a farmer, and Marguerite Gray of Swanton, VT. I was wondering if you had any info on her and any children she might have had. Jan

Hi, Marie
Yes, this is the family! I am working on my husband's side of the family for the children if and when they are interested. The line from my husband Troy Beaulac goes to John Beaulac to Albert Beaulac to Wilfred J. Beaulac to Miseal Beaulac to Hubert Beaulac. I have been to the cemetery and have most info from there on the Beaulac's buried there. I can send you what I have if you like. E-mail me @ t_beaulac@hotmail.com or KCTCOLIN10@aol.com
We live in Fitchburg, Ma. and would love to meet you when you come to visit in Sept.
Kerry

Hello Kerry,

I am just beginning to look into my family but I just spoke to my mother, Lorraine Beaulac Moreau about Misael. He and Cordelia were her patenal grandparents, thus making them my great-grandparents. She tells me that Misael hung himself in the garage of her home and it is the very first memory she has. She believes it was her father who found him.
My grandfather (her father) was Joseph Beaulac, married to Angele Vezina. My grandmother grew up in a house on Melrose St. in Fitchburg and when she married Joseph they lived there until he died in April 1975. My grandmother left there in the early 80's to enter a nursing home in Fitchburg and passed away in the late 1980's. They had 3 daughters: Madeleine, Lorraine and Jacqueline. I believe Misael & Cordelia are buried in St. Bernard's Cemetery. They were members of St. Francis Church on Sheridan Street in Fitchburg. I'm traveling to that cemetery in September to find as many names and dates as I can. I believe I can uncover a lot of information as there are several family members still alive. My mother and her sister Jackie remember a lot.I grew up in the Leominster/Fitchburg area and know the area well. I will keep in touch. I
Marie Jones (Clearwater, Fl.)

I have compiled some information on the decendants of Narcisse Beaulac (b. in either Vermont or NY State of French Canadian parents, ca. 1853)and Josephine Savoy (b. Canada, ca. 1856). This family evenutually ended up in Rhode Island by 1880. Their eldest son, Narcisse Jr. (aka "Nelson") married my g-grandfather's sister, Clara Hamel. The children of Narcisse Jr. and Clara were named Clara, Leon, Albina and Irene (Albina died in childhood). If anyone believes this information would be of use to them, please don't hesitate to contact me. Would also be very interested in comparing notes with any decendants of Narcisse Beaulac Jr. and Clara Hamel.

Cheers,
Jim Duck
Annapolis, MD
