My family on my mother's side are descendents of the General. My mother is in possesion of his Death certificate. Apparently, we are related through either a niece or daughter. Her name was Laura Beauregard. From what we know , she was disowned by the family for marrying an Indian man (may have been creole and Indian) by the name of "Two Zee" Barnes.
Laura never went back to the family. She bore children; one by the name of Louella Barnes who never married yet raised her 4 nieces who were known in Black Vaudville as the Leggett Sisters. The sisters' names were Josephine(my great grandmother), Henrietta, Lena and Pauline.
My mother and I are looking for any information about the Beauregard Family and its connection to my great great Grandmother, Laura Beauregard Barnes. My mother remembers when her great Grandmother passed away though she was a young girl at the time.
Understanding the time period, there is a chance that we come from the Beauregard Family the "back way", however , we would appreciate any help that anyone can give us. All that we do know is that Laura was caucasion although being a native of Louisiana , she could have just looked as if she were. We know that at some point Black was put into the equation, though looking at us you really couldn't tell.
If anyone knows more about Laura and her family , we would appreciate your help.
Once again, we are decendents of Laura Beauregard Barnes, who was either a Granddaughter or Niece of P.G.T.Beauregard.Who was disowned for "marrying beneath her".We do know for certain that no one was a slave so that rules out the slave taking on the Master's surname theory.
Thank You in advance for all your help.
