From what I've been able to find, LJ's name might have been Henry, but I'm not entirely certain. If so, why did he go by LJ in one census and Henry in the others? Also, I found a 'Peckenpaugh' listed in census for 1870 which lists Henry and Elizabeth and their children all under that misspelling. I went page by page through the censuses of Morgan County and came up with that, so maybe, just maybe that will be a piece that helps other people. I'm really looking for a death date for Henry/LJ. Can someone help me here?

Elizabeth

I have a Margaret Beckenbaugh, b. abt. 1765 and Susanna Beckenbaugh, b. abt 1766, both daughters of George Leonhardt Beckenbaugh and Anna Maria Haverly in Frederick County, Maryland. These two sisters married brothers, Jacob and Issac Weddle in 1822 and 1823. Which one married which? And who were the parents of HENRY WEDDLE, born Oct. 27, 1825? I have conflicting data. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would have to go back into my files a way to find out who it was. Your name is not familiar, so I don't think it was you. Perhaps if you enter a search for Effie it would come up,

Feel free to contact me. I have been trying to locate info on John Ketchmark, who was the witness to my aunt's wedding in Minn. in 1925. I ran into one but the person closed off any possibility of contacting her. Bad blood????
Thanks, Barb

I am not certain, but I believe the Elizabeth Beckenbaugh who married Henry Motter/Mauther 11 Sep 1813 in Frederick County, MD, was Maria Elisabeth Beckenbaugh born 10 Jul 1796, d/o George Leonard Beckenbaugh and Mary Magdalena Baulus.
Henry and Elizabeth are in the Brown Twp., Miami County, OH, 1850 US Census taken 10 Sep 1850, along with five of their children.
In the same census but taken 15 Sep 1850 is their son Henry Motter, his wife Lydia Miller, and four children. A brother of this Henry, Valentine Motter, is in Elizabeth Twp. of Miami County in this census.

Thank you for your response.

That the girls were sisters, I have no proof. I'm not researching Beckenbaugh. It was from information given to me.

Margaret "Peggy" Beckenbaugh, d/o George, married Isaac Weddle on January 31, 1823 in Frederick County, Maryland. She was his second wife. He was first married to Rebecca Wilhide. It was suggested by someone who read the Moravian records that Isaac may have actually married Susannah; and Jacob married Peggy. Their marriage records are listed as follows on some accounts:

ISAAC WEDDLE to PEGGY BECKENBAUGH
31 Jan 1823 Frederick MD

JACOB WEDDLE to SUSANNA BECKENBAUGH
01 May 1822 Frederick MD

I'll have to go back through some old papers to get the reference material. I didn't enter it into my computer file, as I could not verify the information on the Beckenbaugh ladies.
Re: GEORGE LEONHARDT BECKENBAUGH

I just found your message from 2002 about Beckenbaugh women marrying Weddle brothers in 1822 and 1823. I am wondering how certain you are that these women were sisters and also how certain you are that both are the daughters of Georg Leonhart Beckenbach. And are you certain that Jacob and Isaac were brothers?

My information is that Jacob Weddle married Susanna Beckenbaugh 1 May 1822 in Frederick County, MD. My problem is this: which of four Susanna Beckenbaughs was this?
Susanna, d/o Georg Beckenbach, married George Marteney/Martina 22 May 1787 and he lived until about 1850.

Susanna, d/o Johann Casper "Casper" Beckenbaugh, born abt 1762, married John Gaver bef 24 April 1794. No info on how long John Gaver lived.

Susanna, d/o George Beckenbaugh and Susanna Unknown, born 1791, married Jacob Fry abt 1805. This Susanna died in Frytown, IA, so is likely not the one.

Susanna, d/o George Peter Beckenbaugh and Susanna Kiefauver, was born 10 Dec 1797. I have no further information on her. If I would have to guess at the Susanna who married Jacob Weddle, my guess would be her.

Peggy Beckenbaugh married Isaac Weddle 31 Jan 1823 in Frederick County, MD. Again, I have the embarrassment of having four candidates.

Margaret Beckenbaugh, d/o George Peter Beckenbaugh, was born in 1799. No further info.

Margaret Beckenbaugh, d/o Georg Leonhardt Beckenbach, was born in 1764, married Nicholas Kefauver in 1784, he died 1817.

Margarate Beckenbaugh, d/o George Leonard Beckenbaugh and Mary Magdalena Baulus, born bef 1810; no further info.

Margaret Beckenbaugh, d/o George Beckenbaugh and Susanna ?, born 1797, died 1878 in Licking County, OH; no further info.

I find it difficult to pick between these four as the spouse for Isaac Weddle. To complicate things more, a Margaret Beckenbaugh married Henry Doub 31 May 1825 in Frederick County, MD.

If you have info to sort this out, I would appreciate receiving it.

I haven't figured out the parentage of L. J. (is it really J.J.?) Beckenbaugh. Among other things I am "thrown" by the 1880 census report that he was born in Illinois. I don't subscribe to the census image pages at ancestry or I would check the image to make sure his birth is not in Indiana, which is where I guess it was. I did find a little something on son Winfield.

Kim, thanks for clarifying the name of your husband's grandmother. I understand it to be Leda Fay Gilbert, but if she was the daughter of John C. Williams, was not her name Leda Fay Williams at birth? It is important to understand the maiden name for women because many persons use the maiden name when compiling genealogy information.

I still am not clear on the name of the mother of Leda. You have Mary E. (Hooper) Beckenbaugh. Does this mean her birth name was Mary E. Hooper and then she married a Beckenbaugh and later married John C. Williams? Please explain why you have both (Hooper) and Beckenbaugh in her name.

When I understand what her name means, I can start looking for her Beckenbaugh connection.

Thanks.

hi , Robert, i'm sorry i forgot,
Mary E. (Hooper), then Beckenbaugh, the obituary didn't say she was a williams after beckenbaugh,, i don't know if she married john williams or not, but leda fay was a hooper, it just says leda's parents were john c. williams and mary e. (hooper) beckenbaugh.
kim,

Hi Debbie,

William Oscar Beckenbaugh and Margaret Louise Herring Beckenbaugh are my husband's Great Grandparents. Their daughter, Margaret Ann, married Manfred Chappell, and their daughter, Marguerite Chappell, is my husband's mother.

I don't have death dates for the Beckenbaughs. I do know that they were members of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Baltimore.

I also have several pictures of the Beckenbaughs that I would share with you.

I've just started doing geneaology on my husband's side of the family. It's so much fun finding links. I hope you can share stories!
Hope to hear from you,
Maggie Rahn

Re: Elizabeth Beckenbaugh

Hi Karen,

Saw your posting about Elizabeth Beckenbaugh and Henry Motter in Maryland/Ohio and am interested, since I come from a line of Beckenbaughs that migrated from Maryland to Ohio.

Cannot place Elizabeth for you with any certainity, but this might be a clue: There was an Elisabetha Beckenbach, daughter of Peter and Sussana Beckenbach, who was born in Maryland (probably Middletown) in 1786 and baptized in Christ Reformed Church in Middletown in 1796. The church records also show that in 1813 a daughter, Maria Ann, was born to Henry & Elizabeth Matter and baptized in 1814.

Since I don't have all the church records, I can't verify that Henry Matter (Motter) married Elisabetha Beckenbach and that Maria Ann was their child. But it's at least an interesting coincidence of names and dates.

Also, there's a Henry Motter in the 1850 census for Miami County, Ohio, who is living within a few doors of two Beckenbaugh families from Maryland. My Beckenbaugh line hails from Miami County, so I suspect there's a connection here. Just not too sure at this point what it is.

If you can give me more info about your Henry, I will look further. If you would like to pursue, e-mail me at pjg@cox.net.

Penny Williams

Hello! I am looking for more info on a Polly Beckenbaugh
b. 15 apr 1795 to John George Beckenbaugh and Elizabeth Zimmerman. She may have been married to one of my ancestors, Jacob Shank b. 25 Mar 1781. I have one source that said they were married, and then another source that said she died at at young age. Need to know more before I search further. They were married 23 Dec 1812, but if she died in 1802, then this would be impossible. I know these things happen, which is why I am trying to verify before going any further. Whatever you can do will help! Chetonto@aol.com

Dear Susan,
I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. I haven't
checked this Board in a while.
My Great grandmother Sarah Binegar Mulvaney
married George Beckenbaugh in 1869 in Peoria
Co., Ill. His father was George also.I think
he was born in Ohio. He had been injuried in
the war. Sarah was a widow of William Mulvaney
who was killed in 1864 in the war.
They went west. To Oregon, Missouri, and
finally settled in Ft Calhoun, Ne. He died in
1912 and she died in 1934.
Does any of this mean anything to you?
What is your line? I may have more on George.
If we can connect, I will look.
Please answer either way.
Thank You,
Joan M Johnson
