Fitchburg, Mass. Becker family
I'm a little surprised and disappointed that I couldn't find anything on the Fitchburg Becker's. My gr-gr-gr- aunt married a black man named Martin Becker (from Surinam). He was a member of the 55th all black regiment from Mass. that served in the Civil War. He stayed in S.Carolina after the war - wal appointed a trial justice by two governors, and was an election official of James Island in S.C.
His brother, Theodore, served in the first all black regiment (the 54th) and was a physician. Martin's wife , Caroline, was from Vermont and lived her whole adult life in Fitchburg.
Anyone looking for more information, please let me know. Mine is ongoing !! Martin is listed on the African American Registry online.
