MUSCATINE, Iowa - Darrell R. Beckey, 78, formerly of 321 Roscoe St., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Muscatine Care Center.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 417 Green St. The Rev. Rob Lathrop will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Butterworth, Andy Trosen, John Beckey, Butch Kelly, Bill Wilson, and Dick Boldt. Burial will be St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish or the Muscatine Care Center.

Mr. Beckey was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in Muscatine, the son of Joseph and Mattye Peters Beckey. He married Therese Barraud on Oct. 26, 1946, in Congers, New York.

He was a US Army veteran serving during World War II.

He was a member of the St. Mathias Catholic Church.

He was the manager of the Iowa State Liquor Store until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Therese Beckey of Muscatine; one son, Tom Beckey of Davenport; one daughter, Sharon Butterworth and her husband, Mark, of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Jimmy and Lyne Butterworth; one brother, Marlin Beckey and his wife, Florence, of Lady Lake, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry; one daughter, Travaughn in infancy; and two brothers, Norbert and Vincent.

Joseph James Beckley born in England in 1821 and died in 1883 in Argentina. Married with Elizabeth Cecilia Morton in 1849 in Parish of Pinner, Middlesex, England. In 1855 went to South Africa and established on Port Elizabeth. Then decided to emigrate to Alejandra Colony in Argentina. They had 8 children:

William = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Thomas = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Elizabeth = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Julia Rosseta = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Rachel = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Agnes Janes = born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Ebeneser was born in Argentina

my maiden name is beckey i am from somerset there are a lot of beckeys around somerset. around the langport taunton and yeovil area. it is not a common name but well known. my fathers name was jack beckey and he had a brother george they were twins.
