MUSCATINE, Iowa - Timothy J. Beckman, 18, of 414 Evans Street, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Unity Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Swanson of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carlton Beckman, Gavin Curtis, Denis Beckman and Hank Beckman. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Tim was born on January 11, 1984, in Muscatine, the son of Brenda Beckman and James Foster.

He completed his junior year at Muscatine High School.

He enjoyed professional wrestling, the Green Bay Packers, and his play station 2.

He is survived by his mother, Brenda Beckman of Muscatine; his father, James Foster and his wife, Julie, of Muscatine; his sisters, Melissa Reeves and her husband, Steve, of Muscatine, Jamie Munson of Muscatine, and Adreanna Foster also of Muscatine; his brothers, Tyler Foster and Bryson Foster, both of Muscatine; his maternal grandmother, Berniece Beckman of Muscatine; his paternal grandparents, John and Delores Foster of Muscatine; and five uncles, Charles Beckman Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Muscatine, Michael Beckman and his wife, Yvonne, of Muscatine, John Foster Jr. of Muscatine, Mike Foster of Muscatine and Jeff Foster of Muscatine.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Beckman Sr. and one uncle, Jim Beckman.

BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Andrew Henry Beckman, 93, of Burlington, died Sunday, Dec. 10, at Great River Medical Center Klein Unit.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, in Burlington. The Rev. John Hyland will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary being said at 7:30 p.m. at Prughs Chapel. Memorials may be made for the Burlington area Catholic Schools and Saints John and Paul Parish.

Mr. Beckman was born Jan. 14, 1907, in Dodgeville, the son of Theodore and Margaret Schulte Beckman. He married Margaret Wright on June 27, 1934, in Burlington.

He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Kiwanis. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew William Beckman of Muscatine, James Edward Beckman of Simi Valley, Calif. and Joseph Albert Beckman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Sister Mary M. Beckman SSND of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, and a son, Theodore.

TIPTON, Iowa -- Vernon Henry Beckmann, 87, Tipton, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, due to complications of a broken hip.

Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Mr. Beckmann was born March 29, 1918, in White Lake, S.D., the son of Henry and Marie Boedeker Beckmann. He married Mary Arnold in 1942 in Tipton.

He was a farmer.

He was a member of Red Oak Presbyterian Church, Tipton; Tipton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2537; past director of Farm Bureau; and a past member of Red Oak Cemetery Board.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beckmann of Mechanicsville; sons, Ray Beckmann and wife, Ronna, of Cresco, Tom Beckmann and wife, Ruth, and John Beckmann, all of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Brooke and Heather Beckmann, Dustin Beckmann, Jeremy Beckmann, Jody Hadrava and husband, Scott, and Aimee Tyo and husband, Chad; great-grandchildren, Madison and Haley Hadrava, Cody and Jacob Tyo, Michaela Beckmann and Hana Roy Beckmann; a sister, Lucille Toop and husband Russell of Arab, Ala.; a brother, Robert Beckmann and wife Irene of White Lake, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Dalphene Beckmann of Plankinton, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Beckmann.

We have to return to my husband's immigrant ancestors to get to Beckmann, and that was 1832.

What years were your men born?

Our Beckmanns came from Ersingen & Bilfingen, (now Kämpfelbach - then it was Karlsruhe), Germany ~3 km apart, Baden, Germany. This area is about 138 km (or 1 1/2 hours drive) from Alsace. In the 19th & 20th centuries, control of the Alsace area changed from German to French and back again several times. Many people (today speak French & German, with some speaking the Alsatian language which is German based.

While it is possible your Beckmans and our Beckmans are related, it would be an extremely distant connection..

Our Beckmans were:

Maria Eva Beckmann, b. 9 Jun 1806 in Ersingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. She died 6 Mar 1886 in Marion Co., Ohio. She was the daughter of Daniel Beckmann, b. 11 Apr 1782 in Ersingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany; he died Bef 7 Mar 1849 in Pleasant Twp, Marion, Ohio. Daniel was the s/o Joannes Jacob Beckmann, b. 28 Dec 1750 in Bilfingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Joannes was the s/o Christopher Beckmann, b. c1705 Ersingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany; d. 4 Sep 1780 in Ersingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Of course, each had several children; I've only given you our direct Line. It would take a month of Sundays to peace tother a connection and then we still might be wrong!

Hello,

My second great aunt, Jessie Princal Norris Dryden, married Carl Beckman in Cape Town, South Africa. Jessie died in c.1918 in her early twenties.

They had two sons: Carl George William Beckman, born 16 Aug. 1916, and Henry Frederick John Beckman, born 8 January 1918.

Henry married Lillian Jane Beatrice (maiden name unknown), born 5 May 1911, died 19 Oct. 1997 in Cape Town.

Henry and Lillian had two daughters, Jean Dorothy Beckman, born 26 Mar. 1944, and Alison Lillian Beckman, born 17 Sept. 1945.

Any assistance someone might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

She gave birth to my grandfather(Frank Kearns) very young. He was raised by his grandparents in South Dakota.
Mary stayed in Illinois and I belive sometime in the 1930's? married Henry Beckman and they had a son Robert.

I am researching the family of Annie Louisa Beckmann, born in Queensland, Australia in 1888 to August and Auguste (nee Lange) of Zillmere. Annie married Arthur Arkell Park in 1910. She had two sisters that I know of, Elizabeth (Betty) and Auguste, and I believe a couple of brothers also. Annie and Arthur were my greatgrandparents. I am Sue Wolford, granddaughter to Charles Frederick Beckman. My mother is Connie Waidler. I have been trying to work on the Beckman/Mueller family line also. Do you have any of the information from Germany that you could send me. I know that German information is very limited due to all their troubles over the years, I have trouble with my Dad's side due to that.

I know that you sent me some information before, but I did not find anything about the German information that you have, like the obituary to John in Germany and the brothers.

Do you know James F. Beckman's ancestry? My husband's immigrant ancestors, Francis Xaver Zachman & Maria Eva Beckman, immigrated in 1832 and purchased land in Marion Co., OH, near Maria's parents, Daniel Beckmann & Barbara Doller, who had immigrated in 1828.

Services Saturday the Rev. James Baughman will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brad Herlein, Aaron Reynolds, Travis Toborog, John Benace, Dick Esterbrook and Ronnie Esterbrook.

Mr. Herlein was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Harold Edward and Hattie Margaret Tobbais Herlein. He married Helen M. Estabrook April 20, 1946, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death in 1991.

He was a turkey farmer for 16 years at Maple Crest; was a GPC load foreman; worked 15 plus years as a custom feed supervisor; and trucked for S. J. Smith Welding Supplies for six years.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Herlein and wife Judey and Billy Herlein and wife Theresa, all of Fruitland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Kenneth Herlein of Verona, Wis., Gary Herlein of Topeka, Kan., Kenneth Herlein of Verona, Wis. and Frank "Dolly" Herlein of Evergreen, Colo.

"James F. Beckman formerly of Coudersport passed away May 24th in West Valley, Utah, after a courageous fight with cancer.

He was a graduate of Coudersport High, Class of 1945. Moving to Diamond Bar, CA. he worked & retired from a heating & air conditioning business.

After retiring he moved to Utah.

Jim was laid to rest at Bluffdale Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah."

Jack Beckman, age 98, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008, in Madera. He was born in Santa Ana, CA into a grocer family. He took over the family market in La Verne, CA, until 1952. He worked for the State Board of Equalization until 1965. Jack met and married Delores Sheely in 1935. Upon Jack's retirement, Jack and Delores moved to Rimrock, Arizona, where he was a Volunteer in Parks at the Montezuma Well National Monument for over 30 years. Jack served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant at Camp Roberts. Jack loved to sing and was a tenor and soloist in church choirs all of his adult life. He loved church and church music. He was Advancement Chairman for Boy Scout troop 411 in La Verne for years. Jack was a man of great integrity and worth. His humor and smile were a delight to all. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold; and his wife Delores, the light of his life for 59 years. He is survived by his son George and wife Ruth, two grandchildren Rachel Dodge and her husband Robert and Matthew Beckman. He had one great grandchild, Elizabeth and one nephew Hall Beckman and wife Peg of England. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008, 10 AM at La Verne Cemetery, La Verne, CA. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the La Verne United Methodist Church, La Verne, CA. My great grandmother was Margaret Beckman, daughter of Edley c. Beckman and Rachael Woody Beckman. I have some information about them from US census as well as record of marriage. Edley had been a widower when he married Rachael. I recently acquired the William Woody genealogy...b. abt 1720 in Kent England...Married Lady Sarah Persel...b. 1732 in Kent England. Willam Woody (son) b. 1745 married Elizabeth Lovel b. 1750. Their son Beverly Woody b. 1789 NC married Cordilla Ellis b. 1799...they were the parents of Rachael Woody...who married Edley Beckman.

Original was Beckmann, with one n dropped in the 1940's.
I believe that my ancestors were originally from Ohio, and migrated to Tennessee then to Alabama. My father's name was William Herman Beckmann, and I also knew his brother Joseph Beckmann.

in the 1930 census it listed joseph august (gus) beckman being born in missouri, his father born in ohio and his mother born in scotland. wife estella born in indiana, her father born in michigan, mother born in indiana. lena (beckman) sims have no idea where she was born, but lived in stinesville and died june 7 1967. estella had a daughter when married to harden her name was kate harden, but i guess she took the beckman name, she married calvin summitt of monroe county. hpe it helps jwbeckman grandson of gus

I'm seeking an information about our relative.
My great grandmother Brita Johanna was born on 16th of January 1873.
Her father's name was Kalle Kustaanpoika Badstubacka (later
Pirttisalo) and her mother's name was Maija Liisa Matintytär.

She left her 4-year-old son (Hugo Ilmari was my grandfather)
and her life in Finland behind.

She left Kälviä, Finland on 8th of April 1902, on that time she was 29 years old. She travelled (by American Line) to North-America, Painesville Ohio.

After that we know nothing about her. Recently my two aunts
told that their mother (my grandmother) said many years ago
that Brita Johanna had got married. Is that true, we don't know.

We would be so happy if we found our relatives in the USA.

I recently came across Bromsteads in the 1860 census for Genesee-Erie Counties of New York that immigrated to USA from Mecklenburg. I think they may be my dad's family. I'm going to search more on them as the Bromsteads are hard to find back then & trace to Germany. My dad's Bromsteads eventually came from NY to CA. Have you found any family information on the Bromsteads in Mecklenburg, Germany?

Where was this 1930 census at? You didn't say.
I might already have it at home, but will have to look & its been quite awhile since I've worked on the Beckmans. I remember I couldn't get very far back on them & was having trouble in the Louisville, Ky. area where they lived before coming to Monroe Co.,In.

Elizabeth Hansen (Reilley, Beckman)

Elizabeth was married to Thomas Hansen (AKA Thorleif Hansen, born 1895 in Oslo, Norway, Died Dec 13, 1959 in Philadelphia.)
On Thomas's death certificate, Elizabeth's name is listed as Elizabeth Beckman. On the Death Notice in The Philadelphia Inquirer her name is listed as Elizabeth Reilley. Not sure if Beckman was her maiden name and Reilley was maybe a married name or vice a versa as she might have been married before Thomas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just had to share my good news. I finally found my lost grandfather after 30 years of searching!
His name was Thorleif (AKA Thomas) Nickoli Hansen. Born in Oslo, Norway May 22, 1895, Died Dec. 13, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA. He’s buried in Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA.
His first marriage was to Bergliot Kristiansen, born in Oslo, Norway July 1895, died 1970 in Philadelphia.
Thorleif (Thomas) & Bergliot divorced in the early 1930’s. They had three children.
Thorleif married a second time (date unknown) to Elizabeth Beckman. They lived
at 1338 W Rush St in Philadelphia. Thorleif was a Tool Maker by trade.
My sister and I visited the Cemetery this past Saturday. There is no grave marker but the kind folks at the Cemetery gave us the names of the people buried on either side of my grandfather so we were able to at least see where he’s buried.
It took many years to find him but it was well worth it!

Timothy J. Beckman, 18, of 414 Evans Street, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Unity Hospital.

Services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Swanson of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carlton Beckman, Gavin Curtis, Denis Beckman and Hank Beckman. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Tim was born on January 11, 1984, in Muscatine, the son of Brenda Beckman and James Foster.

He completed his junior year at Muscatine High School.

He enjoyed professional wrestling, the Green Bay Packers, and his play station 2.

He is survived by his mother, Brenda Beckman of Muscatine; his father, James Foster and his wife, Julie, of Muscatine; his sisters, Melissa Reeves and her husband, Steve, of Muscatine, Jamie Munson of Muscatine, and Adreanna Foster also of Muscatine; his brothers, Tyler Foster and Bryson Foster, both of Muscatine; his maternal grandmother, Berniece Beckman of Muscatine; his paternal grandparents, John and Delores Foster of Muscatine; and five uncles, Charles Beckman Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Muscatine, Michael Beckman and his wife, Yvonne, of Muscatine, John Foster Jr. of Muscatine, Mike Foster of Muscatine and Jeff Foster of Muscatine.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Beckman Sr. and one uncle, Jim Beckman.

Andrew Henry Beckman, 93, of Burlington, died Sunday, Dec. 10, at Great River Medical Center Klein Unit.

Services will be at St. Paul's Catholic Church, in Burlington. The Rev. John Hyland will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington.

Visitation will be Prughs Chapel. Memorials may be made for the Burlington area Catholic Schools and Saints John and Paul Parish.

Mr. Beckman was born Jan. 14, 1907, in Dodgeville, the son of Theodore and Margaret Schulte Beckman. He married Margaret Wright on June 27, 1934, in Burlington.

He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Kiwanis. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew William Beckman of Muscatine, James Edward Beckman of Simi Valley, Calif. and Joseph Albert Beckman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Sister Mary M. Beckman SSND of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, and a son, Theodore.

I am SO glad that I found your query, as I have heard the story about William, but never had any info to go on to attempt to trace our ancestry back to Germany! Our family IS related! Hi! My maternal grandfather was Harold Wayne Beckman; he had a brother named Charles, and several sisters, including Rachel and Leona. Did anyone ever mention anything about William (or possibly his father) coming over by ship from Germany and, after the death of his father, his mother married a man named Beckman that she had mt on board ship? There is a story that our "bloodline" name is Dufort, and I'm trying to piece it all together. Sadly, my grandpa passed away some years ago...
