Good morning Paul,

I do not know a lot about my ancestry but I think the Beckmann's you are speaking of in this message are of relation to me. Since the passing of my grandfather, Henry Beckmann and my great Aunt, Dorothy Beckmann Onksen, I have had little info available to me. I know my grandfather immigrated from Hamburg to Brooklyn after his father and mother did but I'll have to find out their names since they for go me at this time. I spent my childhood in New Jersey but moved to Arkansas in 1989.

I just googled this on a whim this morning.

Michelle

Beckmann in Franklin County MO - Photo request

Anyone related to Beckmanns in Franklin County, Missouri? In particular, Frank and Marie E Schmuke Beckmann (b. 1915 & 1916), or Frank's parents, Henry Carl and Clara J Lenau Beckmann (both b. 1887)? Am trying to put a book together for my girlfriend with as many photos as possible. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Oh, btw, the 'spinster' August Frank married was Hanna "Anna/Annie" F Meierkord(born 1858 in LaGrange, Lewis County, Missouri), daughter of Wilhelm F Meiercord, born in Germany in 1817, and Mary Niekamp, born in Prussia in 1830. Wilhelm and Mary were married in Quincy, IL in 1854.

Oh, I'm so sorry--I should have been clearer. I've been looking for so long for Mary's family, I spoke like you knew which August I was talking about. I meant August Frank, Marie 'Mary' Luise Beckmann's husband. After Mary Beckmann Frank died in 1890, August Frank remarried Miss Meiercord, a 'spinster', in Quincy in about 1895. I guess what troubles me the most is that my g-grandpa Carl was only 8 or so when August remarried; but he was still left behind. Of course, if my gut sense about August is right, maybe Carl was happier that way--
Also, regarding John--I did find a census-1880-in which a John Beckmann was living with August Frank's father's family, helping on the farm. It lists his year of birth as 1863. Is this, or could this be your John?
Okay. Last question for now, I swear. Are you on ancestry.com? Would you like me to add you on to be able to view my tree?

I might be a little fuzzy on the details, but FW-Hannah? Anna? Catherine Meiercord had Wilhelm Friederich who had I believe 5 children, August, William, & John are the only names that come to mind. I'd have to look them up. August was married to a Sarah and they lived in Burr, NE, and this August also had problems with alchoholism and related issues. Aunt Sara didn't like to talk about her life much...bad memories! I am descended from John who married Helen Henrietta Zeilinger. They met at Seminary where Helen's dad, George, was a teacher. John's last church was in Albion, NE, where he died in 1952. I never got to meet him. Helen was my mom's mom. She was a HOOT! They had 5 children, Rosemary, Elizabeth (my mom), Rhoda, John, and Miriam. Rose and Miriam are still living.

wow. Wow! WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! I've been looking for Mary's family for SO LONG!!!! And now, so many of the names make sense. I know that one of the Frank girls married a Hellkamp, and, oh, man, but wow. Am just---amazed. Happy. Nerdyhappy. And I always wondered how August wound up marrying a Meierkord--I recognized the connection to Quincy, but didn't know the name--, and--oh, just. Nerdyexcited.
Which leads me to ask, do you know any more of the family history? I'm descended thru August and Mary's son Carl. To be honest, there has been some...family strife, problems with alcoholism, a trend of...restlessness, and such. It seems that August just kinda...remarried, and let the kids scatter to the wind. I hope I'm wrong, but would love to know the story.
And always, I don't know if I'd be any help, with so little I know of our family, but will try as much as I can.
And thank you, thank you, THANKYOU!!!!! again---!!!!
Leanne

YES!!! We are related! Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet they were married in St. Matthew's church near Humboldt and the ceremony would have been performed either by Friedrich Wilhelm or his son Wilhelm Friedrich Beckmann. FW established 2 churches in that area: The stone church near Auburn, NE (1866) which is still standing and has a history (including pictures!) of the church and some of the Beckmann history, and St. Matthew's church. FW was born in Bielfeld, Germany, and Hanna Catherine Meiercord was from Schottmar, Germany. There are Beckmanns in Burr NE that are direct descendents of FW as well.

Hi. I believe we are related.
My great-great-great-grandmother was Mary Beckmann; I believe, through knowing her date and place of birth and finding a Christening record through St. James in Quincy, that her given name was Marie Luise Beckmann, born and christened in February 1852; her parents are listed as Friedrich Wilhelm Beckmann and Hanna Catherine Meierkord(there is a slight spelling difference). Mary married my g-g-g grandfather August Frank in 1875 near Humboldt, Nebraska. After Mary died in 1890, he remarried and relocated to Quincy. His wife's name was Hanna F Meierkord, born in 1858. I believe she was Mary's cousin.
Could you please let me know if you could possibly disprove any of this? I've been looking so hard, for so long--if I'm correct, I'll be SO excited; but even if I can definitively rule this out, it'll help--
Thank you!
Leanne Frank-Richardson

Have you found out any more about your Beckmann's? I am looking for Emil Beckmann's descendants. He settled in Grundy Center in the l860's. His sister was married to Wilhelm Meissner of Reinbeck/Waterloo area. Trying to figure out how Wilhelm met his wife Elfriede Beckmann when she lived near Rostock in Germany. Emil is her half brother and he lived with them before moving to Grundy Centre. Their dad was a Lutheran Minister as well as many of their ancestor Beckmanns. Elfriede and Emil were born in Holzendorf Mecklenburg-Shwerin Germany a little south of Rostock.

It's even more than 6 years since you wrote Sherry, but I'm also related to these persons. My grandfather was Hugo (Charles Hugo Beckmann) and a brother to Ernst, Wilhelm and Friedrich--also Rudolph. All were in the Chicago area around 1890- early 1900s. Could you share what info you have? Im looking for WHERE in Germany they came from. I believe Rudolph was born in Dusseldorf, but can't find where my grandfather, Charles or Karl, or Hugo---he used all these names, probably because their father was also Karl (Charles). Any insight would be appreciated. My grandmother was Ida Karkutt Beckmann.

I have a Johann Heinrich Beckmann in my tree. He was married to Anna Brammer and I'm sure they lived in Germany. I don't have definite dates for them buy I would guess they would have been born about 1740. They had a daughter Anna C that married a Johann Heinrich Friedrich Dammann also in Germany. Decendants of these people immigrated to America and some of them settled in Minnesota. If you think these might connect with your families email me at pannkass@yahoo.com

Richard,

I don't know if any of this will be of any help to you, but here is something that I have. I have been tracing my family tree, on my fathers side since 1992. This would be the Decker side, from St Louis, Mo. Gustav Albert Decker was my granfather. He (as I just found a month or two ago), was married before he married my grandmother. He was married to a Cornelia Beckmann. I have a copy of the application for marriage. They were married November 19, 1898. I think she also went by Nellie or Lillie. She is listed in the 1900 census as Lillie. After 1903, they were no where to be found. Her birthdate was July 13, 1880. I can not find anything on a death for her of IF they divorced. My grandfather re-married in November of 1930, and lived the remainder of his life in Virginia, and is buried there. If she is a part of your family and you ahve anything on her it would be GREATLY appreciated !!

Thanks so much,
Gayle Gartman
108-A Vermont Road
West Columbia, SC 29170

Thanks

I am seeking any info on Gustav A. Decker, and Cornelia Beckmann/Beckman. Gustav is my grand father. He was married to this lady before he married my grandmother. Gustav was born December 12, 1876, and Cornelia was born July 13, 1880. These two were married November 8, 1898. At the time, Gustav lived at 3939 Iowa Street In St Louis Missouri. Cornelia lived at 1909 Cherokee Street. He was 21, she was 18. I find them in the 1900 Census, in St Louis, but after that she seems to just vanish. I don't know who her parents were, or if she had any siblings. If anyone has any info that they would like to share, please feel free to contact me. Thanks so very much.

Gayle Gartman

This is my G Grandfather. He and his brother August were with the 2nd Texas Inf. Co. F.
After being exchanged William was sent to the Texas Hospital in Quitman, MS. When the war was over he came back to Quitman to make his home. We believe his parents were Heinrich Beckmann and Sophie Lochte. The family came over on the ship Juno to Galveston, TX. in 1853.

Curtis:

I also reside in Wisconsin and have a connection to Struhar. I don't know if it the same one or not. Here goes: Michael Struhar from Austria/Hungary had a daughter Veronica Struhar, my Grandmother who married Joseph Sinsky in Racine, Wisconsin. She came from Austria/Hungary now the Czechoslovakia/Slovakia region and emmigrated with her brother Vincent. The remainder of her family I believe stayed in the homeland. My Mother went to visit the relative back in 1976 and met both sides of her clan. My Father accompanied her and couldn't speak the language. Had to use gestures I guess to get his ideas across or have my Mom interpret.

So if you think there is a connection, I have more information that can be compared. Just contact me when the opportunity rises.

Kathleen Paur
kvpaur2@nconnect.net
