I wonder if you have solved your dilemma since your post was 2 years ago. I have the opposite problem, I have a boy born in 1862, William H. Beckwith, and his sister born in 1864, Ella M Beckwith, that I am unable to connect with Beckwith parents. I have these two living in Erin, Chemung county, New York in the 1880 census with Charles and Margaret Elston along with 3 Elston children and listed as stepson and stepdaughter. Although Margaret could be their mother, I have yet to locate a Beckwith who could be their father.......or even a Beckwith married to a Margaret of the appropriate age.
