Bedfords from Brierley Hill (Kingswinford)

I am trying to trace Bedfords from Brierley Hill, especially any info on Sarah Bedford 1828-1899 She had 6 possibly 7 children, she i believe lived with a James Allen and at least on of the children carried his name :-
John Bedford 1851
Henry Bedford 1854
Joseph Bedford 1857
Caroline Allen 1859
William Bedford 1862
Benjamin Bedford 1865
George Bedford 1868,
The Census are a little confusing as they in one list all
children as Bedford, and in other as Allen, or both names.

If Any one can help with any info on any of them, but especially Sarah and James it would b e great.

Thanks

Karen

I am researching Jonathan Bedford born 1777 m.Sally/Sarah Peters 1802 Dutchess Co.,NY. I can not prove who his parents are: Stephen and Naomi Bedford or David and Esther Smith Bedford. Jonathan had a son Stephen A. m Malissa Passmore, they had 9 children: William, Osborn,Hannah,Sarah,Griffin, Caroline,Jane, Alexander and George. I would appreciate any clues as to who were Jonathans parents. Thanks, Carol

Essex County, New Jersey Bedford lineage

I have found conflicting information on New Jersey Bedfords. Information in my family, though I've seen no documentation, claims the following genealogy: John Bedford (b.c. 1735-1740, wife unknown) father of Stephen Bedford (b. 1761 and married to Lydia Drake), father of John Bedford (b. 1780 and married to Sarah McBride), father of Joshua Bedford (b. 1826 and married first to Mary Royce, then to Elizabeth Coleman), father of George Francis Bedford (b.c. 1850 and married to Elizabeth Smith), father of Minnie Mae Bedford (b. 1877 in Clarendon, PA, and married to William Howard Halpenny). I have data from there to the present. Can anyone confirm/correct this lineage? Can anyone go back from the John of c. 1735? Thanks!

I'm wondering if anyone has any information on a Samuel Bedford, born in Queens, Ireland around 1808, and died around 1875. His mother was Bridget, also born in Queens, around 1781. Samuel married Grace Holdsworth (born around 1817 - Mirfield)and their children all seem to have been born in the Dewsbury / Wakefield area.

I would be grateful for any information which helps me plug the gap...

Thanks

Valerie

John James Bedford born c1815 in Surrey

It's been awhile since I have tried to break through this wall, going to start afresh. Am looking for a John James Bedford born c1815 in Southwark, Surrey (according to the one census I have i.o.w. not definative yet). He worked as either a Straw Hat Maker or a brush maker. In c1845 he had a daughter: Elizabeth Bedford who was born in either Surrey, Shoreditch, Clerkenwell (depending on the census). She married in 1865 to a Edward Hurlock. 1865 is also the year that John James Bedford died. He was living in Hoxton Old Town at the time and his occupation is given as Independant Gentleman.

That's all I have. I am only half-positive that I have the family on the 1851 census (living in Bethnal Green) and half-positive I have Elizabeth's birth certificate (father's occupation is Traveler). Half-positive that John James' wife was Ann Webb. A lot of leads but nothing ever firms up with this group.

Hi,
Does anyone out there have any connection with George Bedford. He was born in Great Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, England, in October 1844. He married Catherine Dann, of London and they lived in Ealing, Middlesex. I can find two children, George Henry born 1868 and Edward born 1870. I believe Georges father may have been Jonathan Bedford of Gt Berkhampstead, born abt 1797. His children were William. Edith, Samuel and George.
Thanks
Jackie

Andrew J. Bedford obit

I have a copy of Andrew's May 1882 obit from the Sullivan County, New York newspaper the Libery Register. It identifies three living brothers (Joshua, McBride and William), but does not list any previously deceased sibs or his parents. Andrew is most likely the son of John Bedford and Phebe Swart. If so, I would like to verify that all the children of John and Phebe included the four brothers above, plus Mary Ann (Polly), Sarah (Sally), Jonas, Daniel (David?), Charles, Adam J., and George. Birth date verification would also be wonderful, but I am thinking that is not likely. Thank you!

I am hoping to clarify a Bedford connection. Yesterday I finally found the evidence showing my g-g-grandfather Francis George Bedford was the son of Adam Bedford and Mary Jane Royce. Working back from there, I noted that Adam was the son of John Bedford and Phebe Swart. The next generation back was not always consistent, however. Was John the son of Jonah Bedford (b. approx. 1754) and his wife (name unknown) who resided in Ulster County, New York? Thanks to whoever can confirm this!

Looking for information on James Robert Bedford from Bermuda (b c1840-50) and Margaret Ann Russell (b1852 in Sunderland, Co Durham, England). They would have been married c1877 or 1878. Children were Amelia (b 1879 at Stepney, E.London), Edward James (b 1881 at Birkenhead) and Eleanor (possibly Ellen, b1883 at Birkenhead). Amelia later had a son -my father - Edward James (b 1898 in the Union Workhouse, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire).
James Robert was a ship's steward and may have settled in England, however there is no evidence of him in Census documents, BDM, etc.
If any of this rings any bells, please get in touch. All information would be most welcome.
ATTENTION ALL BEDFORDS!!!! WE HAVE A LOST LYDIA.

We have a lost Bedford. Her name is Lydia Bedford Wiseman and she needs a home. I have lost of circumstantial evidence but no documentation on her. Family journals have her as coming from"The Bedford's below the Blue Ridge" If anyone has seen a Lydia in any of their family documention in correspondence, family bibles etc... I would love to here from you. Lydia was born abt 1773 lived in Avery County north-west North Carolina. Spouce was William Wiseman. Children's names and dates are 1. Bedford Wiseman born Oct 1, 1799 2. Alexander (Alex) Wiseman born March 28, 1802. 3. Jemima Wiseman born May 6, 1804 4. Josiah Wiseman born July 31, 1806 5. Elizabeth Wiseman born April 25, 1809 6. Lydia Wiseman born May 25, 1812
7. Anthony Senter Wiseman born Feb 9, 1814. *NOTE* The first 6 children all had Bedford names the last one's name came form the Wiseman side of the family. Also, we had reason to believe that Lydia was from the Bedfords in Rutherford because Elizabeth Byars named all her children after siblings and Lydia's name was included. Also her brother James Bedford had Lydia Bedford. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION THAT MAY HELP ME FIND A HOME FOR MY LYDIA * excluding LDS files* I would greatly greatly appreciate it. Thanks Pam

Miles S. Bedford, Randolph & Calhoun Cos., AL

I would like to know more about Miles S. Bedford, son of John W. and Nancy Bedford. This family is in Randolph Co., AL, in the 1880 Fed Census. Miles is 9 yrs old. He has a younger sister named Winney May (7). He is found again in 1910 (39 yrs old) in Calhoun Co., AL, and in 1930 (59 yrs old) in Oxford, Calhoun Co., AL. In the latter census, his wife is Mary V. and he has children John L, Edna I., Seward, Otis W. and Valiree plus some spouses of his children.

I am particularly interested in him because the names Miles and Winney May are also found in my Scarbrough family in the same general area and time.

From my grandmother Scarbrough's keepsakes, I have a portrait of Miles Bedford. He looks to be about 25 to 30 yrs old and is holding a tuba and wearing a straw hat. This would place the photo in the 1890s. It may have been taken in Clay Co. (derived from Randolph Co.) or perhaps in Marshall Co. where my grandmother grew up.

Any further info would be appreciated.

Chuck
Bedford/Wood: Frank, Ann, John, James Bedford/Martha Wood

I am looking for information on James (?) Bedford that married Martha (?) A Wood, daughter of John B and Cynthia A Wood in Taney Co Mo ca 1859. James' father may have been Frank/Franky Bedford and he may have had a sister named Ann. The 1860 Taney Co MO census states that James was b. TN. Frank and Ann Bedford are living in his household. James and Martha (I think these names are correct - the census is difficult to read) had a son, John W P Bedford in MO in 1862/63. In 1870, Martha and her son John are living with her mother, Cynthia Wood, in Boone Co AR. I don't know what happened to her husband (divorced or Civil War casualty perhaps?) The Wood family returns to Taney Co MO in 1880, but I don't know what became of Martha. Her son is living with his grandmother and his uncle, John B Wood (Jr) near Protem MO. Any help with this family appreciated.

I am looking for information on my great-grandmother Jane Bedford, who was born in England in 1843 and died in Cleveland about 1885. She married Charles Vincent Green. Their children, to the best of my mother's recollection, were John, Joseph, Edward, George, Gertrude, Ida (my grandmother), Everett, Walter, and Florence (prob. born Flossie). Both Jane and her husband died in the flu epidemic of the mid-80s and Florence, who was a baby, was fostered by a family in Baltimore.

He was the father of Violet Lilian Bedford ( age 19 ) who married Harry James Wheeler in a Register Office in EDMONTON - Middlesex.
Violet was listed as living at Clonmell / Clonwell Road, Tottenham.
The witnesses on the certificate were Joban ( ?? it looks like ).L.
