Jessica

Family stories are good to have and save for future generation but sometimes they are just that stories.
Location, location, location. You need to find where was your ancestor born in "old country" so you can proceed with the research.
BEDNAR in Slovak, Bednář in Czech. slightly different sound to the Czech R. BEDNARZ is in Polish.
Austria/Czech can be historical Bohemia or Moravia.
http://feefhs.org
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm
http://genforum.com

As far as I know, her name was Frances K. Polavia or Pelava an unknown Warzetha/Warzecha/Warzeha. The spelling varies everywhere I look. The had at least three kids as far as I know: Frank, Theodore, and Pauline. I know that Pauline lived until she was over 100 years old and she died in North Dakota. I've never heard of the Bednarz name.

Darlene, your response to this caught my eye. I have great uncles and aunts living in texas, Norbert and Frances are two of them. There is also Leo, "Sis" that I can think of right now. My grandfather is Ted, whose father was Josef and mother was Marie. Just trying this out and seeing who may be related.

My father's name is Myron "Charles" Bednarz, he was born and raised in the Inkster, Michigan area. His father, my Grandfather Walter William Bednarz was born in 1889 in Krackow Poland and emigrated to the U.S. via Canada in 1915. He passed away in 1932 or 1933, when my father Myron was only about 2 or 3 yrs old in Inkster, Michigan.

My fathers mother (Maiden name Myrtle Birkholz) raised her family through the Depression in Inkster. The childrens names were Myron, Othaniel, Eleanor, Lawrence, and Walter. She never remarried and most of the children live in the Michigan area.

I am the son of Myron "Charles" Bednarz. I live in Washington State, near my Father who is alive and well, perhaps there is some link in our families given the unusual name and the fact that both were in Michigan?

Drop me a line if you like.

Michael R. Bednarz
Quilcene, WA
Bednarz/Bednorz Family of Szczedryk, Opole, Poland

I just received information today regarding our Bednarz family. My husband's family is from Szczedryk, Opole, Poland and I now have information that Johann Bednarz/Bednorz was born 2 June 1860 to Franciscus Bednarz and Mary (Marna) Wiesivek who were married there 1 August 1840. Franz Bednarz above was born 8 October 1814 same town to Paul Bednarz and Marie Dziewior. Paul and Marie or Marianna were married 9 February 1813 in same town.
Paul was born 2 January 1785 to Simon Bednarz and Agnes Korek. Simon Bednarz and Agnes Korek were married 25 February 1781 same town.

Johann emigrated to the US in 1884 where he first settled in North Dakota, apparently because of the railroad then in 1887 moved to Wayzata, Minnesota. He met and married Frances Pelawa from Waverly, Minnesota and in 1890 moved to Browerville, Minnesota where they raised their children.
I am wondering if any other Bednarz/Bednorz families are from this area and might be related to our family.

Barb Bednarz, please contact me at
barog@ctaz.com

Re: hello from argentina

Polish name expert Prof. Kazimierz Rymut mentions this name in his book Nazwiska Polakow [The Surnames of Poles]. Bednorz is pronounced roughly "BED-nosh," and is a distinctively Silesian variation of standard Polish Bednarz, which means "cooper." Many names in Silesia (or Schlesien in German, S~la~sk in Polish) take -a- in standard Polish and turn it into -o-, so it's quite normal to find Bednarz become Bednorz in that part of the country. The name just means the same as Cooper in English.
As of 1990, according to the best data available (the Slownik nazwisk wspolczesnie w Polsce uzywanych, "Directory of Surnames in Current Use in Poland," which covers about 94% of the population of Poland), there were 1,556 Polish citizens named Bednorz, with the largest numbers in the southwestern provinces of Katowice, 1,159, and Opole, 229. Unfortunately I don't have access to further details such as first names or addresses, so I can't tell you how to find that info. (By comparison, there were 13,140 Polish citizens who spelled the name Bednarz).
Bednarz family

My parents were divorced in Michigan when I was 3. I never knew my grandparents or the rest of his family. His name was John and my mom was Helen. He apparently had several brothers and sisters. Some names I recall were Ed, Bill, Stasia, and Stella. I would like to research my family tree and possibly medical history for personal reasons. With several genetic aunts and uncles, I'm assuming I have several cousins too. I seem to remember a cousin named Dana from a trip we took to Island Lake in Michigan when I was very young. Never had much contact with John after that and Mom passed away before I could ask questions. Maybe someone could give me an idea how to find out if I have living relatives or what my grandparents names were. I think they came from Poland.

We are cousins. I just recently found and wrote a letter to John (father) and he gave me all of the Aunts and Uncles names (with the exception of our grandparents. He also included the cousins which had your name. Its very strange writing to a cousin I never knew I had. Thanks very much for filling in some of the blanks. John is still alive but not doing very well. My brother's name was supposed to be Gary but ended up being Robert (Bob). My mother (Helen) died in 89'. It looks like John is the only one left with the exception of the cousins. Are you in Michigan?
