You wrote that Clyde Beecher started the Nevada Club, I believe M. Broderick started the Nevada Club from the documentation I have, I have the original deed for the property and a business statement for the Nevada Club with M.Broderick's name on it. I also have a receipt for some machines from Beecher's Novelty Co. and a written signed release for legal obligations between M. Broderick and Clyde Beecher. I'm curious when and under what circumstances Clyde aquired the property, any info you have would be very helpful. Hopefully you still read these updates.

Amos Beecher of Floyd, Oneida, NY?

In 1820, Agnes Beecher (b. 1800, CT) married Richard Hamilton (b. 1798) in Floyd, Oneida, NY. Richard was a son of Elisha Hamilton who is on the 1820 US Census in Floyd, and three lines below him on the original form is Amos Beecher. Amos and family were the only Beechers in Floyd in 1820, so it is likely that Agnes is his daughter or a close visiting relative. Agnes, Richard, and Elisha all moved to Mexico, Oswego, NY.

Amos was apparently a popular name among the Beechers, but I've found nothing about any having a daughter named Agnes. Amos of Floyd did not appear on later Census records in Oneida Co.

I'm wondering if anyone recognizes this Amos and can share where he relocated or died, or if Agnes was a neice or cousin visiting Floyd when she met her future husband.

Thanks for any insights.

David

James Phillip BEECHER

Hi,

I am looking for the burial of my relative, James Phillip Beecher, who died in Middlesex in 1849. His death was registered Sep 1849 in Whitechapel (vol. 2/810). I have found him in the 1841 census, actually in two places (one with his father-in-law and the other with his family, which I think is possible):

1841 census:
Name, Age, Occupation, Whether Born in same County
David Frecknall, 66, Tailor, Y
Ann Frecknall, 72, Y
Sarah Frecknall, 36, Y
Frances Frecknall, 34, Y
Mary Frecknall, 9, Y
James Beecher, 38, Tailor, N

Census Place: King Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire
Reference: HO107/867, Book 12, Folio 48, Page 8

1841 census:
Name, Age, Occupation, Whether Born in same County
James Beecher, 35, Tailor, No
Elizabeth Beecher, 35, Y
Mary Beecher, 16, N
James Beecher, 14, N
Maria Beecher, 12, N
Matilda Beecher, 9, N

Census Place: White's Row, Christ Church, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
Reference: HO107/710, Book 6, Folio 7, Page 7

His family was living at the same residence in 1851 in Christ Church. I am not too familiar with Middlesex, was wondering if anyone knew where James might be buried? I also have no idea where he was from - 1841 census shows not born in Middlesex & not Nottinghamshire. Could anyone help with this?

Thanks,
Alexander N.

Hi,
I'm related by DNA to your line.

We have a dedicated group of PA Beecher researchers who have compiled info on Beecher lines back to the 1700's in colonial Pennsylvania.

Your Beecher family is in our tree here:
http://www.SearchTrees.com/tree/7613.htm
and we have the line back to a John Beecher b.abt.1757 in Adams Co. PA. We have good reason to believe his father is a Henry Buecher who had a son John:
http://www.searchtrees.com/tree/8597.htm

We don't have 100% proof yet of this father/son relationship, and are looking for one more Beecher Y-DNA test to prove this connection.

We publish our Beecher Y-DNA test results that show all the early 1700's ancestors who are related by DNA to your line here:
http://www.SearchTrees.com/dna

Please email me, we can swap info.
Albert P. Beecher isn't easily found in the 1910 census because he's indexed as Bucher, not Beecher. [Those two "e's" often look like a "u" in handwriting just to confuse Beecher researchers!]

He's living in 1910 at 1013 W Eighth St., age 48, married for 24 years to wife Amelia F., 43.
May be of no help, but Abram P. Beecher had his own studio at 315 Market street, Wilmington, New Castle county, Delaware. He lived at 218 W. 9th street. Jacob S. Beecher, who boarded at 825 W. 4th street, worked with him. If he worked for the railroad, it may have been on spec or on a contract from them.

Bill

English Beecher DNA Keeps Matching German Bucher/Boohers

In 2004 a group of Beecher family researchers began collecting Y-DNA samples from living male Beechers to identify the unqiue Beecher lines living today in America.

If you are a male Beecher, you are invited to learn which Beecher line you are related to by taking a Y-DNA genealogy test, easily done by returning a saliva sample in the supplied test kit (see http://www.SearchTrees.com/dna ) The test can confirm if you are related or not to:

1. John Beecher (1594-1637) who immigrated in 1637 to New Haven, CT from Kent England (line of Lyman Beecher, Henry Ward Beecher, and Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin). As part of our project, we got DNA from a living Beecher in Kent, England that proved the Connecticut Beecher descendants match them.

2. The Pennsylvania Beecher line that immigrated from Germany in the early 1700's, and in later generations spread nationwide. Surnames matching this Beecher group also include Beacher, Bicher, and Bücher.

In a surprise we didn't expect, our CT English Beecher DNA samples began matching with German-speaking immigrants who arrived in other parts of America in the 1700's. 1) Johann Ulrich Bücher (1868-1750) born in Michelbach, Wurttemberg, Germany who died in Frederick County, VA 2) Abraham Bücher (aka Abrhaam Bougher) (1763-1840) and his brother John Bugher (1773-1855), born in Bucks Co. PA

Also 3) John Wesley Bücher (1802-1868) born in PA who died in Hancock Co. VA (now WV). 4) Don Alonzo Booher b.1815 in Hardin Co. KY.

Bücher with the umlaut over the U is pronounced in German like Beecher. Bücher means books, and Buche means paper and is also a word for beech tree from which early paper was made. The surname Bücher may have originated to name a woodsman who lumbered beech trees.

The conclusion from DNA results is these German speaking American immigrants shared a common male ancestor with the English Beechers sometime in the 1500's, and a branch of the family moved to England later on.

See our other research site at http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com/public/bucher for more info on the DNA research results.

Hi,
In the year 2004, I posted all of the names from the book titled "A Genealogical Register of the Inhabitants of the Town of Litchfield, Conn." to the Litchfield County list. You can go to the link below and type in any surname and be sure to search in the year 2004.
Every message that appears will have some mention of the name you typed in.
Also, the records are for the Town of Litchfield in Litchfield County and not for the whole county. The records are from about 1720 to about 1800.
Joyce

Litchfield County Archives
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=CTLITCHF

It has been in a family album and I thought I would try and find out about him. The photo is signed, "I am your much obliged friend", Henry Ward Beecher.
If you have the book, Henry Ward Beecher: An American Portrait, perhaps this is the same person? I don't know anything about him, but am interested in knowing more and making the connection with my family.
Let me know if you would be interested in sharing information.
Anne

Re: Beechers of Lancaster, PA; Stark Co., OH and Lagrange Co., IN

I apologize for not finding your message sooner about Isaac Beecher born in Lancaster Co. PA.

I should be able to help you pin down his origin. I work with a large group of researchers all related to the Beechers of PA. We have a website at http://www.siteservers.net/family/dna where we have been testing the Y-DNA of various Beecher lines to prove which are related and not.

I almost certainly believe your line is related to mine. What we have learned through our Y-DNA testing is that all families are related circa 1800 with surnames Beecher, Bücher, Bicher (all pronounced in German like Beecher) in these counties: Lancaster, Lebanon, York, Adams, Chester, and Berks.

Many in our Beecher lines migrated from PA to OH and on to Indiana, so your Issac is likely a lost brother in one of our lines following that same migration pattern. Also, all of the Beechers/Bichers in the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland are related by Y-DNA to me, and you mention New Holland in your note.

I’ll be happy to dig into your research and help you find the connection to our Beechers. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Harriet Beecher, Indian Head, Maryland 1920's & 1930's

I am searching for a link to a Miss Harriet Beecher who seems to have been living in Indian Head, Charles County, Maryland in the 1920's-1930's. My sister has stumbled onto some of her mail in the walls of her house while she was doing some renovations. The house was originally reported to have been owned by an Elsie Davis and was once a small dairy set up in the town near a military base. Some of the mail and items indicated an uncle who lived in Larchmont NY and owned a Hardware and Paint store, as well as the name H. Beers also, possibly a relative. It seems that Harriet may have been a writer of some poetry items. We are also aware of ther once being a lady named Dorothy Beecher Artes who born in the town in 1919, as also there is a street in town named Beecher Ave. Dorothy Beecher once said that her father Bill was born and raised in Waterbury, Ct. and worked on the military base.

Beecher in Pennsylvania

My Beecher / Beacher family originated that surname in Schuylkill County near Pottsville, where it appears your Beecher ancestor came from. Branches of our family headed west as Beecher at the time of the Civil War, so please contact me and send along your tree, whatever you have, and I can probably fit you into our tree. That will give you ancestors going back to 1700's in Lancaster County and Lebanon County, where you will find the surname was Bicher and before that Bucher, which with the original Germanic umlaut as Bücher was pronounced "Beesher".
My Uncle spent 30 years researching our Schuylkill family roots (he was born in Shenandoah, Schuylkill County) so we have some extensive research data, but your branch is likely a lost part of the family who headed west, so I am most anxious to learn more about them. One Pennsylvania Beecher, Hiram (born 1843) made it as far as California. Others in our family went to the midwest.
So, if you think your Beecher came from central Pennsylvania we should talk. Click on my name to see my email address.

Hi,
Your Beecher line in Tama Co. Iowa ties back to the south PA Beechers in the 1700's. A descendent, Richard Beecher of IA, participated in our DNA test and matched 6 other males from PA proving that connection. Contact me by email and we'll get you plugged into our trees and research site and you can explore your early ancestors. We got 15 people researching the line together; you are welcome to join all the fun. The PA Beeches spread out west through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and into Iowa. Our DNA work has now revealed the line has roots in Maryland, where most of those Beechers are part of this every growing family, too.

Beecher DNA Test Results

If you hit a brick wall can can't find your early Beecher ancestor, consider the name may have changed in the 1700-1850 period. Our Y-DNA testing has proven that the Beechers in southeastern PA descended from a Bücher family, a Swiss name that was pronounced like Beesher. Their sons migrated to OH, IN, IL, KY, MO, and as far west as CA. (Beechers found in northern PA near Tioga in the late 1700's descend from the CT Beecher family and are of English origin.) We have a website with a database of several thousand 1700-1880 Beecher/Bicher/Beacher/Bucher people living in PA (plus many other states) at http://www.siteservers.net/family. If you are interested in joining the Y-DNA test you must be a male with surname Beecher or variant spellings. We use the largest firm, http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com and get a group discount so the normal $159 test is only $99 if you join our group called Bucher, which covers all Beecher, Bicher, Beacher, etc. surnames, including English origin Beechers. The test tells if males are related by a common ancestor. So far, 64% of males have matched another person in our test group revealing that our trees must join. In one group, 5 guys matched who had surnames Beecher, Beacher, Bicher proving they were all related to Bücher ancestors in the 1750's in Lancaster County, PA. I would be happly to do a lookup in the database for your Beecher, just email me.

DNA Showed PA Beechers Are Not English Beechers

With the help of Bill Beecher who is descended from John Beecher, who arrived in CT in 1637 from Kent, England, we used Y-DNA testing to prove that the CT Beecher lines from England are NOT related to the Beecher lines found in Pennsylvania, which arrived there in the early 1700's. Those PA Beechers are now proven by DNA to be related to several German speaking ancestors. Taking the simple test can now tell anyone if you are related to the English or PA Dutch Beechers, as explained at http://www.siteservers.net/family/beecherresearch.htm which has links to Bill Beecher & Jim Shaw's tree: Descendants of John Beecher born 1594-1637 in Kent, England; and links to trees of thousands of 1700-1900 Pennsylvania Beecher ancestors.

If your Beecher came from PA, expect him to be English only if he originates in Tioga or Bradford County (near the NY state line) where some CT Beechers arrived in the late 1700's. In other areas in PA, the testing proved 6 different family lines covering Adams, York Cumberland, Perry, Lebanon, Schuylkill, Lancaster, Berks, and Chester Counties (extending in later years into the midwestern US) all share the same Y-DNA and are descended from several 1700's ancestors with surname Bücher (pronounced in German like "Beesher") who started using the Beecher surname circa 1800.

Seeking Maryland Beechers!

One of the unexpected surprises of using Y-DNA testing to link all the Beecher lines in South PA into one big family has been the discovery that our line in the 1700's appears to originate in Maryland. Our PA elder ancestor, Henry Beecher/Buecher birthed his children somewhere near Frederick, Maryland in the 1750's. Also, many Beechers in Adams/York PA in the 1800's also return home to MD where we have traced their lines down to the modern day, such as the line that ends in Alexandria, VA with Vice Admiral William Gordon Beecher who fought at Pearl Harbor. If you are related to a Beecher / Buger / Bucher in the 1700's in MD or VA, please email your cousins or visit our research site at http://www.SiteServers.net/Family/DNA

Rev. Edward Beecher

Is anyone familiar with Edward Beecher? He served in Wisconsin as a Freewill Baptist minister. I am President of the Wisconsin Freewill Baptist Historical Society and am trying to find descendants of deceased ministers, like I am, in the hopes of learning more about these people as well as possible orchestrating a “reunion” of the descendants of these ministers in 2008. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I do not know anything about Jesse Beecher, but I have information on a Carrie Anna Beecher from Missouri. She married Charles Cassius Crampton and both were doctors. Let me know if this is who you are looking for.

Update
Charles N. Beecher is burried in Lakeview Cemetery. Kossuth is on the map but the street at the north end is now called Beecher. Also burried near him are Isabella and another woman named Beecher I have yet to identify.

Re: Lyman Beecher in Litchfield, Ct. ~ Early 1800's

I've traced my Beecher line back to Litchfield Conn. to Charles N. Beecher Jr. b.1833 where his parents were living in 1850, 1840. His father Charles N.(?) Beecher was born in 1806. I do not know if he was born in Litchfield but he certianly spent a great deal of time living there.
There are a lot of Beechers burried in Litchfield. The name is appearantly a common one, but most of them are in one cemetery. To me that would imply that they associated with each other; either in migration or in religion, or possibly bloodline.
In my family the following names occur; Isabella, Georgia, Georgiana (possibly the same as Georgia and said to be named after a man) Charles (3 times). I have noted that these names also appear frequently among other Beecher lines. Given the fame of Lyman and his progeny the assumption might be made that they simply coppied the name choices made by him. My Isabella was born when Lyman's daughter was still very young and virtually unknown.
Is there a source that discusses other Beecher families?
Alan
