Kees, thanks for your input. When I lived in Europe, I went to Holland and visited the town.
However, in England the Beeks name is also derived from Beke and DeBek and also possibly Beckes. DeBek was from France. He was granted land in England when he supported the king. The spelling got changed throughout the years. The catch is, figuring out which line of Beeks you come from.

hello

Im Kees Beeks from the netherlands.. I hoop you know your all Dutch :) .. our family name goes back to the town off 'hilvarenbeek'..This town was first named in 990 and they called it ''Beek'' . So all 'Beeks' or 'Beek' are from this town

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilvarenbeek_(plaats)

use google tranlate.. because Dutch is hard to read for you
on the english wiki is not mush about hilvarenbeek. My aunt iin Canada have it back to the 1500..

all the best hope this give you some leads

Kees Beeks

I have a small news clipping from my grandmother's scrapbook. It is a death notice for Norman G. Marsh; died 12 Dec 1878 in his 53rd year of age. Funeral services to be held at Chapline Street M.E. Church with interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
The news clipping is not labeled regarding the place where all of this took place. Does anyone recognize where this would be??? This is the husband of my gggrandfather's sister, and would appreciate any help..... Thanks, Loline

Hi Loline.

James H. Beeks is also my gggrandfather. I decend from Frazell Beeks, then Leta Ferne Beeks, then Bonnie Boggs.

I didn't call the cemetery, just did some internet searches and tried to put the pieces together.

I have just recently began to use find-a-grave.com - this is very helpful. (But not for our Norman Marsh...)

The Beeks line seems to have dead ended - but there is a clue somewhere - if we can only find it - that will connect back another generation or more.

I'd like to hear what you find out...

Thanks for all the work,
Andrew

PS: I show Fannie M. Beeks - what name does the M represent?

Hello Andrew: I'm Loline Bradshaw Sammons; my gggrandfather
is James H. Beeks, sister to Annie. I'm not finding their
burial place either. Did you call the cemetery? I haven't
but I will if you haven't. I would not have a clue where to look for them, now. Annie helped raise my great grandmother, Fannie Beeks/Withrow, after the mother, Elizabeth died; shortly after the twins, Frank and Fannie were born. I posted the obituary to try to locate someone working on this line, that would know their burial place. Thanks for answering my query. Help to know there is someone out there besides Dawn Beeks, who is interested in our line.

The reference must be for:

Wheeling, WV (Ohio County)
There is a Methodist and Episcopalian Curch there, on Chapline Street.

There is also a Greenwood Cemetery there.

So, I am fairly positive this is the cemetery in reference, but cannot locate Norman Marsh in that cemetery. Or anywhere else....????

Andrew Givens

Tristum, I am sure this not the Mary Beeks for whom you are looking. This Mary was originally from South Carolina. She relocated to Hart County, Georgia where she lived until her death. While she may have married more than once, Riggin is not a name with which I am familiar in relation to her.

Adam's father was Daniel who was marr to Harriet. Being that Daniel was born c 1835, Daniel would be listed as a slave in the 1850 and 1860 just as a black male and a given age. You would have to surmise who Daniel would be. The next step of course would be to try and find plantation records to see if names were ever mentioned or in wills. Adam had as siblings Harvey, Elsey, Enoch, Albert, Clara, Alace, William and Corrie. I believe there are a couple more children but either they died or were living with other relatives.
I have Adam being marr 3x's to Datchie, Sallie and Henrietta and only a total of 3 children but I'm sure there are more. If you have info on down the line and who lived in Detroit, would love to see it, so I can add to the tree. Of course it will be noted it came from you.
Pls send me your email, that way I can send you family group sheets, mine is dawnbeeks@msn.com

Thanks! Yes I believe this is such a case on the Beeks and the Fullers, There is a family that is living in Texas who are relativies of my ggguncle James W. Fuller who is in there Family tree.I have spoken with their researcher, but to no avail have I directly spoken to the family. I'm still trying on that source. The researcher said they want to speak to me, but nothing as of yet.I know this will help greatly! Maybe you can contact the researcher and get some info? he's a member here. Jessicannemarie1 is the memeber name. Maybe you'll have better luck, I know this is the key to the Beeks! If I find anything myself I'll let you know as well.

I wasn't able to find anything further, other than I possibly have Samuel listed just as age on slave census. Next best thing is to find siblings of Matilda and who she married. Presently I'm working on the Beeks of GA, both black and white lineages, and then I'll work on either SC or TX. If you find anything would appreciate an email, then it could connect to some of the unattached folks I have and I'll pass onto you.

As of yet, I have no Samuel marr to Charlotte in the black lineage. I have two Samuels fm SC, two from GA, and 4 with unknown at this time. Do you have a timeframe and I'll see if we can get a Samuel to match up. Any parents on Samuel or siblings? I have a large database of unattached Beeks, so we might find something.

Beeks/Beaks/Beakes...2010

Well another year has come and gone. I have added a lot of info during the past year on all 7 Beeks/Beaks/Beakes lines in the US. If you are missing something, you are welcome to drop a line and see if I have made any additions to your line. It's a never ending pile of paperwork to input into the computer.
For folks who are just starting out in research, I have been doing genealogy for over 40 years and have made connections with lots of distant relatives and if they aren't connected by blood....well they are still connected because of the name and are welcomed into the family.
As I said earlier, there are 7 lines in the US, 5 of the lines are caucasian, 2 lines black. However, a couple of the white lines may actually merge into each other, but as usual, you have to find the proof to make the connection.
I am looking for people to contact me and see if we can fill in some of the blanks. Looking forward to solving some connections!
And for the newcomers, one BIG piece of advice, cite all your sources! In other words, write down on the back of all your info, where you found it. Just having it on a piece paper doesn't make it valid....cite the dates, newspapers, wills, video tapes, the books, etc, etc... because 10 years from now, when you are reviewing the info and want to pass on to someone where you got it and you didn't cite it, it's gonna drive you crazy. Believe me, I know, I'm still smacking myself upside the head, for my earlier research, where I just collected info and had nothing to back it up.

My email is dawnbeeks@msn.com or you can call 520 249-5595
Mary apparently married a Shearld later in life. That is why I could not find a record of her death in all this time. When I met her (when she was in her early seventies) she had no husband and she was introduced to me as Mary BEEKS. It was not until very recently that I learned that she died as Mary B. Sherald.

I do not plan to look for any information on the Shearld surname because, none of her children carried that surname. They all carried the BEEKS surname. BTW, my email address has not changed.

I found a William Beake listed in a book called "Bonded Passengers." Apparently this is a list of people who were sentenced, many to death, in England and transported to the fine land of America. This William Beake was sentenced and transported in October of 1732 on the ship "Caesar" to Virginia. Does anyone know what happened to him after that, or where he came from? Could he be the William Beeks who served in the Revolutionary War? Could he be Christopher's father? If anyone can rule him out as Christopher's father, or has any information about him, it would be wonderful to hear from you!

Janice

Phillip,

I'm not sure I replied to you or not, I put genealogy aside last year, was super busy remodeling, but all is done and I'm jumping back in.

The only Somerset Beaks/Beakes in America that I have listed are: Arthur Beakes b: ca 1818 Kewstoke, Somersetshire marr Harriet Tripp. They had 6 children, all born in Kenn, Somersetshire. Children : Harriet b: 27 Oct 1844, John Tripp b 21 Mar 1846, Edward Tripp 24 Sep 1848, Samuel b: ?, William b : 20 Jul 1851 and Arthur O b:08 Sep 1862. For sure dau Harriet and son Arthur stayed in England. Edward, Samue and William came to America with parents. John not known.

I have to check some other data but the mother died May 1887 in Kansas, is the earliest date I'm showing for now but they probably came here around 1880's.

I hope this helps some.

Dawn

UPDATE:
Laura Ann Calkins father's name was Stephen Calkins born abt. 1836. died June 12, 1862 in the Civil War and is buried in Corinth, Mississippi, where he died. Her mother was Malinda (McBee) Calkins. She was born abt. 1836 and died March 2, 1860 and is buried in Freemont Cemetery in Cass, Jones Co., Iowa, by her parents, Lemuel and Eleanor (Frakes) McBee. In the 1870 Census for Cass, Jones, Iowa it shows Laura Ann living with her Grandparent, Calvin Calkins. her Grandmother, Mary Ann (Arnold) Calkins was not in the census, so she passed away by the time Laura Ann was twelve years old.
Laura Ann Calkins was married to Christopher Columbus Beeks on July 5, 1874 in Jones Co., Iowa.
