1899 CT newspaper notice with some useful Beeman genealogy.

Hello. I happened upon the following 1899 Hartford Courant newspaper notice, it was an inquiry (sent from Illinois to Connecticut) concerning the BEEMAN genealogy. I saw that the newspaper item had some detailed family information and I thought that I would post it here just in case someone might find it useful.

" Letters From the People
Relatives Wanted - Beeman, Griffith, Stephens.
To the Editor of The Courant:
Will some person that is related to either of the following persons, William, Vincent, James or Orman Beeman, Daniel or Ezra Griffith, Daniel Stephens or his wife , Mary Tomlinson, and knows the family history of any or all of them please address the undersigned.
William Beeman was the second son of John Beeman, who was married to Sarah Thompson November 5, 1746, of Kent, Conn.; but left Connecticut and went either to Massachusetts or Vermont and very probably died there. Vincent, James and Orman Beeman were the sons of William, and there were three other sons and one daughter, viz., Rullus, Russell, John and Mary. The family of William left Connecticut and came West. Vincent, James and Mary went to Michigan, and Orman and John came to Illinois, where they died many years ago. William's wife's name, I think, was Sarah Campbell. He was a soldier in the War of the Revolution, and a pensioner at his death. He had two brothers and three sisters, viz., Matthias, Andrew, Rachel, Lucy and Thankful.
Anyone that can give any information concerning the family will confer a lasting favor.
Daniel and Ezra Griffith were cousins of Orman Beeman, as also was Daniel and Mary Stephens. Daniel Stephens was daguerreotypist and his wife was a teacher.
Leander C. Carrieo.
Dow, Jersey County, Illinois
January 15, 1899 "

Hartford Courant
Jan 20, 1899, page 8

Hi Beth .... yes, Peter Carpenter Beeman was part of the line I'm very much interested in. I believe my Peter Carpenter Smelser was the son of George Smelser .... and brother to Mary Ann Smelser Beeman b. SC, wife of Samuel Syvester Beeman. I'd love to compare notes. We've been working the line in St. Charles and Portage des Sioux Missouri and in St. Clair and Greene County in Illinois. We've followed Beeman to Texas but are wondering if there is any additional evidence on the origins of the Smelser family connections, any evidence that Smelser tracks along with Beeman in some way into Texas, and if there is any evidence of a family association (or just plain association) between Beeman and Prigmore? Both Beeman and Prigmore are associated families to Smelser in Missouri.

Smelser / Smelzer - Beeman Family Connections - Help Wanted

Samuel Sylvester Beeman b. 1795 NC married Mary Ann Smelzer / Smelser b. 1798 SC. We are working this family line with particular focus on any of the Smelser family connections. Hoping that someone in the Beeman line holds a "nugget" of information that might help us break some roadblocks.

Mary Ann Smelser apparently moves from the Pendleton District of South Carolina in about 1803 or 1804 into St. Clair county Illinois or there-bouts. She seems to be associated (at least the family names match quite closely including Temperance, David, John, James, David) with the George Smeltzer b. abt 1760-1765 who operated the Smeltzer Ferry at Alton, Illinois starting in about 1817 or so. Other names of interest include Isaac Smelser Beeman, John Smelser Beeman, James Smelser Beeman, David Smelser Beeman, Peter Carpenter Smelser Beeman, William Beeman, Jacob Smelser Beeman.

I'm looking for others interested in this Beeman line and I'm particularly looking for any information you might have or develop related to the Smelser / Smeltzer / Smelzer family married into the Beeman family.

One common thread may be that both families were at one time of the Quaker faith. Both may have connections to William Penn and his early land dealings in America.

So, any and all help will be appreciated.

The Aaron Beeman family in Granby are part of the big Beeman family in Kent, Litchfield Co./Hartford, CT. My Beeman's also left and stopped in NY., PA., OH., and IN. and some went out west and my line came into Michigan and stayed. I know that for a certainty they are cousins to Noah Beeman whose line follows Thomas Beeman and Phoebe Parke. Could you tell me about your line? You can email me directly off the board at Sharon2u4ever@hotmail.com
