>>SATURDAY, 4 JULY 1863<<
SAN FRANCISCO DISPATCH, July 3 --
-On Wednesday night Dr. George W. BEERS, residing at the corner of Stockton and Geary streets, killed his wife and daughter aged 9 years, by fracturing their skulls with an iron bar; having, it is supposed, first administered strychnine. He then took poison himself, opened an artery in his hand and bled to death. He was in straightened circumstances, and was also a firm believer in spiritualism. His circumstances and opinions are supposed to have induced the deed. Nothing was known of it until a late hour last evening, when his door was forced by the landlady.
