I'm specifically researching CAPT. SAMUEL BEERS (b. 9/4/1744 - d. 8/1/1832) of CT. One family outline (unable to contact contributor) gave Samuel's title as "Captain".

I'm hoping someone can tell me how the title (Army/Navy and/or dates of service) is related to this individual.
