I'm a descendant of Thomas "Trooper Tom" and William Beetham. William J., the son of William, had John Ambrose and he's my grandfather. Sara and Ellen were William J.'s siblings. I have Ellen has marrying William SOMERS/SUMMERS, though. Sara was married to Robert Hayes :).

Hi distant cousin Andrea,

I found Trooper Tom in the UK Census in 1851, 1861, and 1871. He was living in Winston, Durham, England. The census has his birthdate as 1789-1856. Wife: Mary Shaver. There's a daughter Anne living with them during each census.

I am very interested in the Beetham family. Thomas was my GGG Grandfather, but I can't confirm anything about him prior to Peel County, Ontario. Anything you could share would be helpful. I have seen his name with Mary Shaver (only from other family trees on Ancestry), but also with a Mary Honan and Mary Green. Would you know if they are all the same person?
My lineage is Thomas>William>Francis>Christina (my grandmother).

Just noticed that you mention you descend through son, William. I know he had at least 8 children - are you familiar with daughters, Ellen (1865-1898) or Sarah Jane (1867-1945), both were wives of Robert John HAYES, and both left children. Robert was the son of Owen HAY(E)S & Jane MARSHALL.

Hello,
I am trying to locate information on my GG Grandfather, Joseph Beetham. He lived on Tristan da Cunha from 1866 to 1885, and before that he lived in the Cape Colony where his first four children were born. He married Ellen Cotton, one of the daughters of Alexander Cotton who helped found the first permanent settlement on the Island.

In the 1875 census of Tristan da Cunha, Joseph claims to have been born in Stanley, West Riding, Yorkshire abt. 1834. I have as yet been unable to find anything from that time or area. Thank you for any pointers you can provide!

Ethel & Ella Beetham lived in Townsville Aust 1890s - some info

Ethel & Ella Beetham are mentioned in the centenary book of a Townsville primary school called Ross Island (now called Townsville South)published in 1984.
The information is from a Grace Clegg to Mrs Wiggen (Ethel Wiggen nee Walker) who all went to school together.
It mentions that they returned to England with their parents & ? siblings, and kept an Inn just outside Buxton in Derbyshire called 'The Cat & Fiddle'
Ethel married Sid Harrison & correspondence between Grace & Ethel slowed and then stopped.
I don't know any more & there are no photos but I thought someone might be interested.

I am searching for information on George Beatham, He was born in 1851 and died in 1888 I don't know the locations or his parent information. George was married to Margaret Baldock born 1860 died 1925 in Michigan, they were married January 28, 1880. She married Walter Morris after George passed away. George and Margaret had two children William A Beatham born April 12, 1885 in Michigan he married Flossie Snell April 22, 1915, Wiliam died February 17, 1967
George and Margarets other child Mabel E Beatham married Frank E Schattler January 18, 1905. I dont have Mabel's birth/death informaiton.

Per census information they had the following children: Mary b 1840, Sara b 1842, James b 1844, William b 1846, John B. b 1848, John, b 1854, Albert b 1857 and Hannah b 1860. Hi Dave, Joseph Beatham born 1829,Glassonby Cumberland had a son Robert born 1858 in Little Salkeld,Cumberland.
Now I have him up to 1871 in Gamblesby,and then what could be him in 1881 in Hanley Staffordshire getting married,but and it is a big but ,on his marriage certificate there is no name or occupation for his father,have you gotten any further with this Beatham tree?

Matthew Beetham of East Ardsley (born 1682) was my g-g-g-g-g grandfather. You mentioned the East Ardsley Beetham family in respomse to another Beetham query. Are you linked to "my" Beetham line or was that simply information you had noted in your researches?

My Beethams came from Morland (Westmorland) to East Ardsley (Yorks), then to Hooton Pagnell (Yorks) then to Doncaster (Yorks). (My late mother was Joan Mary Beetham born in Doncaster). I would be delighted to share my Beetham research with you and anyone similarly interested.

Montgomery BETHAM & Catherine Anna de SILVA of Samoa.

I am curious whether all BETHAMs of Samoa were related as Montgomery is from Hertford, England, and others are from Australia - would you know?

I have been tracing the progenitor of the de SILVA lineage, Augustine? de SILVA, from his origins of Faial, Portugal, to his descendants on the island of Upolu, Samoa. Unfortunately, I can never go beyond his origins in Faial to get his parents name.

So I'd thought to go another route and that is through BETHAM. How? you say? Well, I am hoping descendants of Catherine de SILVA may have "heard" something and "oral history" in Samoa is carried a loooong way in the aiga/Family.

I think John(born 1843) and Mary(married Thomas Eliot) may be the children of Thomas and Elizabeth Beatham who married at Brougham in 1838. The Bath connection is probably significant.

I am confused!
my children are descendants of the Betham clan in Samoa, I have a family tree dating back to Ralph DeBetham but somewhere in the mid 1500's it appears to cross over into a different family tree, I think due to lack of records.
I am starting to think everything prior to about 1612 is not the right tree.
My dilemma begins in 1612 with the birth of Roger Betham son of Edward Betham and Elizabeth?.
There is no birthdate for Edward and it is at this point the tree crosses over to Edward Betham, born 1559, who was also married to Margaret. Unless Edward married twice, I think this could be where we go wrong.
Edward and Elizabeth had a son John b.1616, and it is from him the tree extends to present day. Any ideas ?

One of my ancestors Sir Richard Musgrave d1464 Edenhall married Elizabeth/Margaret Betham. There seems to be conflicting information on the Net about the lady's age, parentage etc. I would be interested to see your information.

"MRS. DANIEL GRAVELINE
An illness which baffled the skill of her physicians to combat and which a postmortem revealed to be gallstones, caused the death at Windsor, Saturday morning, of Mrs. Daniel Graveline in the 56th year of her age. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev'd Thos. Manning, pastor of Central Methodist Church, and the remains were interred in Windsor Grove Cemetery. Mrs Graveline's maiden name was Hannah Melinda Beetham, and she was the daughter of the late George Beetham, of Malden. Both parents are dead, but she leaves the following brothers: Thomas W. and Charles, of Malden, and John, of Kingsville, and a sister, Mrs Clarendon Brush, of Malden. She was married 32 years ago in January at Colchester to Mr Graveline, and they lived successively in Harrow, Malden, Sandwich and Windsor, being in the latter place for seventeen years. A family of five children were born to them, all living- Freeman and Lee, of Detroit; Olive, Mrs Moore, Sandwich; Huldah, at home and Mark of Windsor. The funeral was a very large one, many relatives from the county being in attendence."
