Re: Mary Beethe

From what I have found, she was supposedly the daughter of James Beeth and Sarah Bryan of Bourbon Co., KY. James Beeth(a.k.a. Baythe, Beethe, Baithe, Baize, Bays, Bathe, etc.) was of Strodes Station, was captured by Indians, sold to a British officer by them, later released, was involved in the capture of an Indian Chief, (Blue Jacket, I believe). He appears to have had a brother George Beethe/Bathe who married Susannah Wilson daughter of KY surveyor Edward Wilson of Strodes' station. Edward Wilson moved to Edwards County, Illinois Territory, later Crawford County, where he left a will naming his daughter Susannah Wilson. George Baythe/Bathe also moved to Crawford County where he died. Have been told that James Beeth/Baythe moved to Ohio.

Do you know who his father was? Could it have been Hans Heirich Buthe (u umlaut)? I am a descendant of Henry Beethe and we have a books on both Henry and Carl Ludwig, but neither mentions another brother.

My name is John Newton and Mary Beethe is my grandmother 5 times removed and I am also trying to find info. All I have been able to find out so far is that her dad's name was probably John Beethe and that she died in Illinois in about 1834. Hope that is new for you.
If you can get anything else please email me at
johnnewton@amarillo.com

Hi Ali,

I have come across this page by accident (I have never done genealogy). My maiden name is Buthe and most of my father's family still live near Minden on the Weser River. I was told that originally the Buthes came from Bohemia and that they were glassmakers, but this could be a family myth.

All best

Christina

Conrad Ludwig Buethe's father was Johann Conrad Buete born May 10, 1774 (I do not have his birthplace )and his mother was Justine Wilhelmine Meyer born Jan 14 1774 in Rohden. Rohden is not far from Rolfshagen, se toward the Weser River, near Hessisch Oldendorf and across a range of high hills. Maybe they were related a few generations back.
