What part of Russia was your grandmother from. My father's family (Begun/Begunov) originally came from the Kavkaz area (near Sea of Azov).

All I know is that my grandmother came from Pinsk. Her brother Jacob came here in about 1898 or so and his name was changed to Berman. There were 3 sisters (maybe more) and one brother that we know of.

I guess the mysteries will continue. I know my father told me once that the Begun name came from centuries ago and was given to people fleeing the government, military inscription, religious persecution, etc. Upon entering a certain part of Russia, especially the Cossak region, they were named the Bieguny. Although photographs help establish resemblance, perhaps only DNA/blood testing could really determine relatedness. Internet is great, but you can't see anybody to say, gee, he/she looks like my Uncle Peter, etc. Anyway, Good Luck, keep searching!

We have a David Shumsky from Kiev, Russia in our Family. His fathers name was Moisha. They were from Stavishche, Kiev, Urkraine, Russia. They came to the USA 1910-1917
David Shumsky lived in New York and was born 1884
