Dorothy M. Lutz Behan, age 95, of Erie, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Saint Mary's Home, East. She was born in Erie,CO,PA, on May 12, 1915
a daughter of the late William and Martha Detzel Lutz. A graduate of St. Joseph Grade School and St. Benedict Academy, she worked at Friedrich's Religious Goods prior to her marriage to Laurence N. Behan on November 9, 1939. As a homemaker, she raised five children and was active in supporting the Catholic Schools they attended. An avid reader, she enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, quilting and in later years, traveling. She volunteered for many years as a worker at the voting polls and as a member of St. Peter's Sewing Group, which made dressings for cancer patients and clothing for neonatal infants. Her Catholic faith was a deep focus of her life.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence, in 1977,
her eldest son, Laurence David Behan in 2002,
her great-grandson Nicholas David Pagano in 2009 .
and her brother, Robert W. Lutz in 2005.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Behan of Erie, three sons, William J. Behan of Sewickley, Pa. and his life partner G M. Vlachos, John M. Behan and his wife Jeanne, Patrick R. Behan and his wife Lynda and daughter-in-law, Joanne M. Behan all of Erie;
eight grandchildren, Collene (Richard) Pagano, Bridget (James) Stevenson, Matthew Behan, Maura J. Behan, Megan Behan, Danielle Behan all of Erie, Natalie (Scott) Bulera of Ben Avon, Pa., and Brian (Kelly) Behan of Sewickley, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Alexandra Pagano, Lauren and Shannon Stevenson and John and Grace Bulera; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary's East for their wonderful care and dedication. Friends may call on Sunday, December 5 at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, Pa. 16502 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
