Hi Peter,
I am looking for a Myles Behan in Dublin who married a Catherine Byrne. They had a daughter, Mary Anne (about 1870)who married a William Bennett. They are believed to have had at least one other child prior to 1870.
Unfortunately I know nothing else about the family and would love to hear from you.
Myles seems to be a name that crops up fairly frequently in the Behan family.
Regards,
Taia de Burca

Hi Michelle
We could be getting somewhere.
If your great grandmother was Annie Behan and her father was Jemie (could this be Jamie)and he had a sister called Maryanne that would tie up well. Have you got any birth dates for these people?
My great grandmother was Maryanne Behan born in South Dublin about 1870. Her father was Myles Behan and her mother Catherine Byrne.
Maybe your great grandmother's father and my great grandmother were brother and sister, that makes us cousins.
I haven only been able to get this information from birth and marriage certificates as my father knew nothing of his family.
Can you tell me anythng else about this side of the family?
I really appreciate talking with you and could give you my home email address if you like.
Taia
Hi Michelle, thanks so much for getting back to me.
My parents came to Australia, and I live in the beautiful Blue Mountains outside Sydney.
My Father's mother was Catherine Mary Bennett, born South Dublin in 1890. Her mother was Mary Anne Behan born in South Dublin about 1870. Her father was Myles Behan and her mother Catherine Byrne.
Catherine Mary Bennett had four sisters. The family moved to London (probably for work) in about 1894.
I was in Dublin searching out the family at the end of 2007 and could not find certificates for Myles of Catherine Byrne because they would have been born before registrations started in 1864.
Please let me know if there's any chance we could be related. Would love to hear more from you.
Taia
I am looking for any information about my grandmother Mary Theresa Behan born in Dublin about 1888. She left Ireland about 1904 for England with my grandfather Jesse Dunk who was in the British Army. He was more than 30 yuears older than her so there may be some family stories around . I know she had a sister who i think may have been ia twin and the family were in Dublin during the First World War as my father lived with them for a time.
If anyone has information I would be grateful.

Hi, I've done some little bit of research into my husband's family. His great-grandfather Patrick Behan (03/17/1834 - 01/19/1911) came to the US with his wife Mary Quinn (02/02/1833 - 06/19/1908). They are buried in the Schaticoke, NY cemetary across from the Fair Grounds with two of their daughters Maria (1866 - 1889) and Anna (1881 - 1896). A son, Thomas A. (08/25/1876 - 02/12/1965) was my husband's grandfather, who came to the US as a five year old from Ireland. His wife was Catherine O'Brien (1879 - 1961) born in Eagle Bridge, NY. They are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Cambridge, NY. There was also another son James (1870 - 1950).

Hello again.
No, I only know that the name of Cornelius 'pops' up. I do not know how her fits into the family.
If I am not mistaken . . . Murphy is the most common surname in Ireland. I had a heck of a time sorting out my group but then had a huge break through with a 'local' family member who had some documentation of the family in Ireland late 1800's. From there I was able to piece my Murphy clan together, but still more to do. =Always more to do.

Debra

Hi Joanne.

My Ellen Behan (d/o Simon) married to my William Barrett. Their son Patrick my ancestor. This Patrick emigrated to US; he immediately settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. Patrick married JoHannah 'Hannah' Murphy in San Francisco 1902. Patrick's sister was Catherine Barrett and she married Hannah Murphy's brother Edward Murphy. Siblings married to siblings. All four emigrated from Ireland same time period, but seemingly met in the US. I have no reason to believe that they knew each other in Ireland, and though the Murphys were later found in Ballylanders, South Co. Limerick, they were of Ballindangan, CO Cork, prior to that, so all in the same general area of Ireland. Perhaps this is what they all shared = their common bond.

So many Murphys.
Sort of like Smith, or (Hhhmmmm) Anderson.
My son married a Smith.
Currently researching the Smiths (deep sigh).

I can send more information on my Murphys if you would like.
No Doyles in my group.

Debra Anderson

Standish Acres a Printer George Acres Military

Standish Acres he was a printer.1880 Census Standish Acres I Chicago, Cook, Illinois, a printer, aged 45 from Ireland birth date of 1837. Died 11/25/1905 married 10/18/1859 to Matilda Bernabe of & in Montreal Canada Anglican Faith.I also have the 1880 census in Chicago, Il. Standish arrived in the Port of New York from Liverpool in July 1857 from there I found him in Montral, Canada where he met Matilda Bernabe or Barnaby born 10/01/1939 in Canada died 1912 Chicago,il. Found the baptism of daughter Mary Matilda in 1861 and the burial of son Standish in 1865. There is another Acres couple - George and Annie. They were godparents for Mary Matilda. Standish and Matilda C. were godparents for several of George and Annie's children (1861, 1863).George was a Staff Sergeant 1st Battalion Seventeenth Regiment 17th regiment of Foot, also I believe he was Standish"s brother as word from my parents has it he had a twin brother Later in 1863, when his son Thomas George was baptized, looks like George was a color Sergeant 1st Battalion 17th Regiment of Foot. I have not been able to find Standish nor Matilda's record of immigration from Canada nor his ship record in New york to find the name of his parents or town of birth in Ireland. Also looking for Matilda C. Bernabe or Barnaby Family she was born 10/01/1939 in Canada died 1912 Chicago,Il.

I'm trying to gather more information for my family tree maybe someone has info I cant find. Trying to trace the family of my Great Great Grandfather Patrick Behan, born (c)1859 around Rathdrum Co Wicklow. I know of one of his siblings Myles Behan born (c) 1866. Patrick Behan married Margaret (Lambert) in 1881 in Dublin lived in no 3 Sandwith Court, South Docks Dublin 2 and they had 9 children. On the 1911 census 6 of these children were still living , Matthew (My Great Grandfather), Andrew, Maggie, Mary, Bridgit & Patrick. In 1884 Myles Behan married Ellen Behan and they lived in 18 Clarence Place South Docks Dublin 2 and they had 12 children.( I have names for 10 of the children). But thats where the info I have finishes. It has been said that the family of Brendan Behan were connected to my Grandfathers Behans .... Any info would be great.
Hi Debra

Thanks for the reply. It is much appreciated. I'm having a lot of trouble tracking my Behans. My mother's maiden name is Behan so it's a special one for me.

Your Daniel is born about the time my Daniel would have been born based on my Daniel's son, John's birth date of 1960. Kanturk is very close to Dromtarriff. Do you know if Joanna is a male or female? I assumed female because my name is Joanne. But maybe not. Because that person was born the same year as my John.

You mentioned a Cornelius Behan once in your first post. Do you know where he fits into this picture? As I've got him as a possible brother of John Behan.

I only know that Elizabeth Murphy married Daniel Behan. Given than their son John Behan was born in Kanturk, I can only assume they met somewhere in that area and that she was born around the same time as Daniel.

I'll have a look for Murphys in the areas you mentioned. I'll also see if I can find some more information on Joanna Behan on the off chance this is another name for John.

Good luck with your Smith research. That sounds like a hard one.

Kind Regards
Joanne Morris

Following on from my earlier reply on 12th November, 2008 and having had a bit of a look on the 1911 census records of Dublin, I’ve come up with a couple of thoughts.
I was wondering if you have any information on any other siblings of Patrick and Myles Behan? Is there a chance that Michael Behan (c) 1863 could be another brother?
Could they have had a sister named Mary Anne (m. William Bennett) born between 1866 and 1870? (my gr-grand-mother, I know that her father was Myles Behan and mother was Catherine Byrne.
Regards, Taia
Myles Behan.
Thanks for getting back to me. Can you give me any further information at all on your part of the Behan family. I would love to know of your Myles and his sister Maryanne or any other siblings or their parents or anything at that I can find. The parents I have for Maryann were Myles Behan and Catherine (formerly Byrne). She was living around Fumbally Lane and New Row South in South Dublin in 1870 - 1886
Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
Taia
