Hi Alan,
You mentioned researching Behms in Wisconsin.
My grandmother was Hedwig Behm, dauther of Albert and Auguste Behm, who came to the U.S. in 1902 with several of their children. His brother, August, was already living in Wisconsin, in the tiny community of London on the border of Jefferson and Dane Counties.
Albert, I believe, was the son of Albert Behm, and had brothers August (1852-1932, wife Ernestine), Christ and Ferdinand (1874-1961, wife Minnie Strauss).
Looking for information

My grandmothers name was Theresa Behm ~ Boehm ~ Boehm ( spelling may be a varient )
My Father's birth records show her as ( Theres Behm )
His death certif. shows her as Theresa Boehm.

So name changed to Behm then Boehm at one time or another,
Then married a Adam B. Leipold changed to Leipolt.

I believe born in Hungary in 1888.
Seems to be from Szulok Hungary. ( possibly narrow down to Somogy )
She and Adam Leipold or Leipolt married prior to arriving in USA.
Then they came to the USA with their daughter Catherine.
Name changes would have been after coming to USA.

I believe Adam arrived in 1912 and Theresa and Catherine came over in 1914 and settled in Milw., Wi.
They had one other child ( my father Martin S. Leipolt )

What I'm looking for is WHO Adam and Theresa's parents or siblings were.
I can't find much info on either of them - so not much to go no.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nice to see everyone connecting to the Behm family. My guess is the Michigan family is probably related to the Minnesota Behm family. This is a very very brief outline of my family.

I connect to the Behm family through Anna Sophia Behm born 1810. She married Martin Werth. The Werth and Behm family came to the US in 1843, stayed in New York for awhile before heading to Minnesota. A daughter Fredricke married Charles Porth. They eventually ended up in Minnesota where they raised their family. Charles brother Wilhelm Porth went on the Michigan. The Porth family married into the Markgraf family and some of them also ended up in Michigan.

Anna Sophia Behm 1810
Her parents:
Anna Sophia Broecker 1785
Johann Behm 1776
His parents:
Johann Behm 1742
Christina Bröcker 1750

Laurie

I know nothing about the family you are searching, but have a couple ideas.

Have you tried to research this Fred Behm? If you have correspondence, have you tried to match the address with a census listing, or looked for family members mentioned in the letters? If you can find out who Fred is, maybe you can find a specific researcher on his family to talk to.

Patti L

Alan,
If your interests don't lie with the Michigan Behms, how did you come to follow - or identify - this line?

I have followed this line as far as our immigrating family in Angermuende, (I believe that is Brandenburg), which is as far as I can get using records available through Ancestry. I believe the poster of this original message is a little further, having the benefit of travel, he just hasn't posted updates & corrections. The original immigrating family is the generation I share ancestors with him.

I am totally unfamiliar with the areas of Germany and with doing research there, so for a while I've focused on following the branches of our immigrating family forward. This research was much easier for me, especially with the clues found in a recently inherited a family scrapbook.

I hope that at some time you will be willing to share what your researcher has found that pertains to this line, as there are many Behm lines in Michigan that we are sure fit together somehow, (this has even been indicated by similarities in photos) but the records just are not easy to come by and learning to research in another country is very time consuming. I am picking at it, but I'm just getting the lay of the land and I find it overwhelming.

Patti L
Michigan

Hi Patti,

I agree that the original message has a lot of good information; however, it is almost impossible for the new reader to sort out the good from the bad. The German researcher that I used has finally found the German ancestors of the author. They were found some distance from the villages mentioned in this email thread.

I have not done any work with the Michigan Behms, so I don't know if they are related. I am probably related to all Behms from the villages of the Rothenklempenow estate in Pomerania. That includes the villages of Boock, Mewegen, Gorkow, Rothenklempenow, and Dorotheenewalde. These Behm lines can be traced back to the 1600s. I have mainly researched the Behm descendants in New York, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, but there are also relatives in Canada, Australia, and South Africa.

Alan Moll
Atwater, Minnesota

Alan,

Thank you for posting that - for the sake of future researchers. I was led astray myself by some of that info.

There were some Behm families in those areas mentioned, not his direct line, but maybe still related. The Author's ancestors did spend at least 2 years in New York, but I have been unable to determine exactly where yet - maybe in the towns he mentioned. The post does contain good information about someone's Behms, even if it is not his direct line, as it appears he at one time felt it was.

Are you researching the Michigan Behm lines? I still have a few missing in my line.

Patti L
I know it has been a while since your posting, but I finally have the answer to this Caroline, daughter of Martin G and Caroline (Kunze) Behm.
b. July 30 1849, d. Aug 18, 1926
Caroline married Hiram Lintz about 1866. After a few years in Wayne Co, Caroline's family and her sister's family both moved to Ogemaw Co., MI. While the sister returned to Macomb Co., the Lintz family appears to have stayed in Ogemaw until Hiram's death. Then, in ill health, Caroline spent her final years with her daughter in Flint.
Patti

Hi Chris

Wondering if you have come across a Frederich Johan Behm married to Dorothea Maria Kemp. These parents and their family traveled from Prussia to Grand Haven in 1868. I have been looking for relation going further back in the line or brothers of Frederick. So many of the Behm names are similar I was hoping to find a connection. Some of the names of the children in the family are Wilhelmine, Johan Frederich, Maria, Wilhelm, Caroline, and Ferdinand. Your post spiked an interest due to the similarity in names. Frederich and Dorothea would be my GGGgrandparents.

Fred M. Behm/Maud(e) Anderson, Chicago

I am trying to find more on the family of Fred Behm, who married a Maude Anderson in Chicago. Both were born in 1883.
I believe that Fred's parents were Henry and Sophia, both born in Germany, in 1854 and 1860. Maude's parents were Carl and Anna Anderson, both born in Sweden.

Fred and Maude were married about 1906, and in 1910 were living with her parents. In 1920 they were living in Detroit, Michigan. Fred was a Sgt in the US Army. At that time they had no children. A Fred Maxwell Behm, born 18 Jan 1833 died in Los Angeles in March, 1951.

If anybody knows anything about this family, please contact me.

Thanks for your information. Since 2001 I have discovered quite a lot about the Behm Family from Chicago/Niles, Illinois. Elise Behm was actually married twice. Her first husband, Peter Studtmann, died and then she married Mr. Neugebauer. She had 5 children with her first husband and 4 with her second husband, including Mathilde and Adelle. She died 17 April 1914. I also have a lot of info about her parents, grandparents and even some great-grandparents in Mecklenburg. Contact me for more information.
