BEHN - Hamburg Germany

Hello, I am the descendant of Carl Ludwig (Julius)Behn who was born on 24th Sep, 1839 in Hamburg, Hamburg Germany, the son on Ernest Behn and Elizabeth (Betty) Bender. He had some cousins, a Bernhardt Behn,Franziska Behn, Hannchen Behn, Theodor Behn, Schwarz Behn, and a Kruess Behn. In letters from them to my great great Grandfather, there are dates of marriages and births for some of these family members. Hannchen Behn married a Nicolaus Meyer, a goldsmith. Franziska married a Fr. Schacht, who was a carpenter. There is also mention of an Aunt Wiebering who lived in the "Kremsway." Also, Bernhard and Franziska's parents separated, as did my Great great grandfather's. He emmigrated to the US in 1863, to Kingston NY. He then enlisted in the 68th NY INF for the last year of the Civil War. He sent pictures of himself home to Germany, so somewhere in some attic, someone may have a picture of a "Cousin Julius" in a Union military uniform. He also sent numerous letters, so these may still be in existence. One letter tells of his marriage and the birth of his first son, John. After the war, he settled in Brooklyn and married henrietta Fink. He had 4 children: John Franklin Behn, Clara Winifred Behn, Margaret Frances Behn, and Julius Bradford William Behn (My great Grandfather). He died on the 4th of Feb, 1930, at the National Soldiers Home in Chelsea Massachusetts. There may have been cousins or brothers and sisters who emmigrated to the US later on. What a joy it would be to find distant cousins from the Behn line, to find family. If any of these names sound familiar, please reply!. Sincerely, Joshua H. Behn "Gott mit Uns"
