William Behn. Cambridgeshire

Does anyone have any information regarding the origins of;

William/Wilholm/Wilhelm Behn. Born c.1848 in Germany/Prussia.

He came to England (Bassingbourne,Cambridgeshire) as a tailor sometime between 1861-1870, and married Emma Dellar in 1871.

A location listed as Becker, Prussia is lised by the ancestry team on his census return of 1871, however, on closer inspection the writing is illegiable and is unlikely to be this location. After numerous checks the place of Becker does not exist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,

Census return is attached if anyone wants to try and decipher the location. William is listed 4th up from the bottom.

Do you have any names of siblings of Joseph Plummer Behn? Beaufort, SC was the home of my great-great grandfather, George Washington Behn (aka G.W. Behn) at one time, and may be some relationship to your Behns. I believe he appeared on the 1860 and 1860 as living in Beaufort, SC. Would appreciate any information you may have.

Sorry for the late reply.. I had an email change.

My Oldenburg Behn source is from an 1880 Census record from the town of Brillion, Calumet County, Wisconsin. There my GGG-Grandfather Johann Christian Behn and my GGG-Grandmother Anna Christiana Dorothea Behn (Wriedt) are listed as being from Oldenburg, Germany.

They came to America around 1874, and settled in Brillion, Calumet County, Wisconsin.

Their occupation was farming, although years later, my Behn family moved to the town of Algoma, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin and got in to the Lumber business. Johann
's Son, Herman Frederick Behn and Johann's Grandson Frederick William Behn (my Great-Grandfather) opened up a Lumber Mill in the town of Algoma. Years later it was destroyed in a fire.

Any relation to your Behns?

Carl Frederic Behn jr and sr. of Colo, Arizona, Wisc.

Carl Frederic Behn jr. died in 1978 in Weyauwega, Waupaca Co, Wisconsin. I know he was born in Denver, Colo and married his wife Ardanelle Wilson there. I am most interested in the parents of Carl – these would be the elder Carl Frederic Behn and his first wife ‘Lena’ Troxell (she born 1867 in either Maryland or Virginia and probably died in Denver.) This Behn family was in Denver, then in 1920 in Navajo Co, Arizona; 1930 in Phoenix, Maricopa Co, Arizona. Did the elder Carl Behn died in Phoenix? Carl Behn sr was born abt 1861 in Schleswig or Denmark or Hamburg; was in Arizona from before 1920 through 1930, died Phoenix area? I am only interested in this Behn line coming down, not in the ancestry of Carl Behn.

Behn Family in South Carolina,Texas,Oklahoma

It been awhile since I have on here. But I have learn a little since then. This is how it has been told to me, so if I need corrected please (smile) G.W. Behn (S.C. to Texas) was a slave owner. He had a slave named Nancy those two had children. One of which was my great great grandfather Prince. Which on some the census was listed as mulatoo. I was told he loved the slave in his will he left those sons born with this slave land. I do have proof of that. I was also told he was killed because of his relationship. I don't have his death certificate yet.I don't know if they ever married. My great grandmother Pearl Polly Behn was Prince's daughter. She lived with us for awhile and if I knew how important my ancestry was I would have as questions, but I was young. Some will not except this information and some will. But I would like to if possible get pictures and history of the Behn relatives German and African descent.
Kim ((Chouteaugal@yahoo.com)

He was born in 1857 and came to the US in the late 1880's. Settled in Chicago, Il. He was a blacksmith. His father was Claus Heinrich Behn. Any of this seem to fit with your family in Hamburg? They connected to name Meier. It was in the region of Bleckede.

So lets see was it established that your Behn was the Catharina Margrethea Behn line, who married the George Meyer. Who was mentioned as having been living in Sauk county wi. The daughter Marie Thresa married a John Riley.
Did you mention where yours come from in germany. I am particularyly hopeing to find others from dahlenburg and Oldendorf and Nahrendorf area of germany. Or are they danish or English.

I am now looking for the families in Reedsburg wi. the one I saw posted married the Meyer family and then a Lena Thresea married Riley and were in Nebraska.
Re: the UK connection. You may have read about this elsewhere, but many people from Scandinavia and Germany areas traveled on ships from UK to the US. I've been looking through a number of ship manifests for various family names.--Not to get off track, but I was wondering, do you know how common the Kobs name is in the UK?--As with other families, it appears that some travelers decided to stay or work in areas from which they'd planned to travel. THANKS. P.S.Thank you for calling my attention to Lola.

I think we may have a connection. Are you related in any way to Herman Behn(c.1860's)? He was my great-grandfather---do any of his children's names sound familiar (in no particular order): Herman, Hugo, Fred, Alvin, Laura, Paul (my grandfather), Myra (died at 21). We think this family traveled to the US via the St. Lawrence Seaway and/or possibly Boston. I'd love to hear from you or anyone else.

My Grandfather Henry Davenport Cushing was born in San Francisco and my father William Fred Cushing was born in South San Francisco and I was born in Oakland. I haven't lived in the Bay Area since 1976 but my brother and mother live out in Walnut Creek. Appreciate any help you may be able to render in behalf of my family. Thank You.
