Sorry, do not have anything related to Switzerland. Barsinghausen is in the neighbourhood of Hannover in Germany. Conrad Georges Behne, born in Barsinghausen in 1826, Germany was the son of Frederic Guillaume Christian Behne (names are here in french and not german because they come out of a civil registry wedding act of the city of Seraing in Belgium.) and of Sophie Magdelaine Wägener. Both last lived in Hildesheim, Germany by the time their son married in Seraing on 18-10-1854 Josephine Demblon, born in Seraing in 1828. Conrad was an Engineer at Cockerill in Seraing.
I have no further information at this moment.
Maurice

My Behne family starts in Switzerland. The story goes that my gr gr gr grandmother Wilhelmine ??? was from a very prominent family and fell in love with their gardener, Josepf Behne. The family was so upset that she married beneath her class that the couple was sent to America. They came into Baltimore in 1841 with a daughter Maria Magdalena Sadonia Behne and a son Conrad. If you have any information on them our family would greatly appreciate it.

Hello,
I am looking for ancestors for Paul Henry/Heinrich Behne (with an accent over the last 'e'). I know he was the 3rd son, born in 1869 in Reading, PA to a Doctor who was somehow related to the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte. It is also believed that Mrs. Behne married a young Doctor Crier/Krier following her husband's death after the family moved to Chicago.
Any additional names would be helpful.
Thanks!

My grandfather talked about connections to Cumberland, but I don´t know the nature of it. They eventually moved to Milwaukee. Could these be the Anna and Fred you´re looking for?

> BEHNE, Helga * 05.10.1938 + 14.02.1945
> BEHNE, Edith * 24.12.1936 + 14.02.1945
> BEHNE, Martha * 25.12.1897 + 14.02.1945

Addditional note: The ages of these three when they were killed in the seige of Magdeburg are:
Martha - 47
Edith - 8
Helga - 6
I assume that Martha was the mother of Ediith and Helga, and that they were all killed together by the same bomb.
It is likely that they were born in Magdeburg, and that Martha was married there too, so records may have (hopefully) survived the incendaries. You could begin with the Grabregister, then do a search for the birth certificates of the young girls, perhaps starting in the Sudenburg area, and if one should turn up showing the mother as Martha, then it will verify my theory that Martha is their mother, and will also provide her maiden name and birthplace, and the father's name, birthdate and birthplace. Once you have the father's information you can check the Kriegslisten and other records to find the grandparents and siblings.

I got several results indiicating that Magdeburg was heavily bombed on that day by American B-24 Liberators of the 2nd Air Division, 467th and 446th Bomber groups, et al, and the R.A.F. The primary target was the railroad marshaling yard and also the oil refineries. I read a diary entry of a B-24 crewman who said that his bomber dropped a combination of 4 1,000 pound GP bombs and 2 M17 incendaries from 22,500 feet. I am certain that Helga, Edith, and Martha were killed in these raids that one day. I hope we can find more information on these people, as I am sure they are our relatives.

Behne, Andrew's children other than Ferdinand Karl

Thanks to this message board I found Andrew Behne's brothers and sisters. Now I am looking for Andrew's children. I am aware of Ferdinand Karl, my maternal Grandfather. I understand he had ten or eleven brothers and sisters and several came to America. They were born and grew up near Magdeburg, Germany. Ferdinand was born in 1868. Is anyone aware of them? Do you know which ones came to America? Andrew's wife was Fredericka Speeriter.
