My paternal grandmother was Bertha BEHNKE, b. 9/21/1878 in Fayette County, Texas. She married Gus SOMMERFELD in Fayette County in 1902 (actually, marriage license was from Fayette Co. but they married in Burton at St. John's Lutheran Church, which I believe is in Washington Co.) They later immigrated to Bosque Co. but her parents stayed in Fayette County.
Her parents were Gustav and Augusta BAIER (anglicized to Beyer) BEHNKE. They came from Schoken, Wrongowitz, Posen. Immigrated in 1875 through New York to Fayette County, TX.
Gustav's brother Heinrich BEHNKE married Augusta WINKLEMAN and Immigrated in 1880 and soon ended up in Bosque County, TX.
One of Bertha's brothers, a Henry BEHNKE b. 1879. stayed in or moved to Detroit, MI area and married, raised family and died there in 1966 according to the info I have.
I would love to get more information about all sides of the BEHNKE family AND ANY CONNECTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.
