I was looking through a box of deeds at the Lehigh County Historical Society when I came across a "letter of agreement" between Balthaser Beil and Jacob Morri concerning some land, dated April 19, 1750, translated by C.F.Seng on July 28, 1977. The agreement identifies Jacob Morri as Balthaser's brother-in-law.

Jacob Morri was married to a woman named Clara Catherine. She and Jacob baptized four children at the Blue Church in Upper Saucon Twsp. Northampton (now Lehigh Countyy, PA, between the years 1750 and 1757. Jacob had at least three more children, possibly by Clara Catherine, but by 1781 he is married to someone named Mary Eve (possibly Maria Eva Gangewehr, widow of Jacob, nee Schlosser), so I assume Clara Catherine was deceased by then. I did not have a maiden name for her, but I assumed she was related to one of the landowners down in Saucon Township at that time.

A Balthasar Beil is supposed to have been born in Germany in 1714, arrived in America in 1737, and settled in the present-day Upper Saucon Township area. Does anyone know if he had a sister Clara Catherine?

Jacob Morri was born in 1726; I do not have a guess as to the age of Clara Catherine except that she had a child in 1750 and perhaps one as late as 1763.

Alternatively, it is possible that Balthaser's wife was one of Jacob's sisters. Balthaser was supposed to have been married several times: The first about 1739 (I've seen October 1739 on the Internet) to an Elizabeth. Jacob had 4 sisters: Elizabeth, Maria, Anna, and Hanna. Elizabeth Morri was born on May 25, 1724, and baptized on July 5, 1724 at the Hackensack Reformed Church in Hackensack, NJ. For her to be married in 1739 at age 15 is a tight squeeze but still possible, especially back then. (The information on her birth and baptism comes from "The Palatine Families of New York and New Jersey: Some Later Arrivals 1717-1776" by Henry Z. Jones.) Has anyone been able to determine a maiden name, date of birth, or date of death for any of Balthasar Beil's wives?

Would be interested in knowing a) if Balthasar had a sister Clara Catherine or b) if anyone has other evidence of connections between the Beil and Morri/Mory/Mohry families.

-Bill
