BERNARD O'BIERN was Irish but the had less incentive to be patriotic for he was a Roman Catholic. He and his familu arrived from County Lonford in 1847 and settled the lot between Fred Schell and the Derroughs. 1847 was the year of the typhus epidemic and his wife and one daughter had died on the ship coming over. John Kennedy arrived the same year from Belfast and stayed with his uncle at Quaker Hill until he married Margaret O'Biern. They took up land across the trail from her father. A few more Irish Catholics joined the O'Bierns. The Dolans settled about a mile to the north shortly after, and by the 1860s Michael Moran and John Manley from Altona had settled close by.
Anything interesting or hupefully a contact?
The above O'BEIRNEs and MANLEYs are my children's ancestors.
