I have been looking for some time for a Charles Beitel (Beadle). He was from Damstadt, Germany came to the U.S. in 1872. His wife Mary and son Henry accompanied him. They settled in PA for a time. Mary died shortly after they reached the U.S. Charles (Charley) and Henry moved to KY they show up on the 1880 census in Owensboro, KY. Henry stayed in KY and married. Charley moved on to Tunica, MS and from there I lost track of him. I am mostly interested in when they first arrived in the U.S. If anyone has info on them please e-mail me at bas1952@bellsouth.net.

Thanks in advance. I have about 2 generations back beyond Albert and Ira on the Metz side and several on the Workinger side.

Janice

I am looking for information on William Beitel. I think the family might have one time lived in Mauch Chunk, PA, now known as Jim Thorpe. He would have been born about 1888, however, birthplace unknown. The religion might have been Reformed. Someone in the family also could have worked on the railroad.

He had a son named Milton William Beitel, born Dec 3, 1907. Hit massive brick wall as anyone who could have given information is deceased.

Hi. I am a Beitel descendent also. Have you found the book by Ashlie H Beitel written in abt 1956? He lists many of the Beitels. In that book I found that your Sophia Matilda Beitel was the daughter of George Leibert Beitel. In the Moravian books, he was also known as John George Leibert Beitel. He married Anna Stotz. As far as I can tell, he lived and died in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. That should make the research easy for you to find and proof more information on them. I also come from George Leibert Beitel's father, but from a different wife. If you want to talk to me, write me. I have been proofing the work going back and presently only on my 3 and 4th great grandparents in documentation.
Good luck.
Sincerely, Sherry Bean

It was compiled first by Charles Henry Beitel in 1900. Then updated by Ashley H. Beitel in 1957. Please feel free to e-mail me about this. I wouldn't mind comparing notes. Chuck

Beitel families in the US

I have a fairly extensive listing of descendants of Heinrich Beitel/Beutel, Moravian missionary from Herrnhut, Germany to Surinam, South America in the mid 1700's. He had three sons, Johann Renatus, Christian Frederick and David, that were educated in the US (Moravian schools in Nazareth PA). David had no children, but the other two had many descendants. I have no Adolph Beitel in my database; however, there are incomplete branches that remain to be filled in. Perhaps you have another generation back from Adolph that may enable me to link your family to my database. I know of two other Beitel lines that came to the US later (one settled in OR the other in TX), but both of those lines are fairly small when compared to Heinrich's line, who have been in the US since mid 1700's. Please e-mail me if you would like to further pursue this line. Gregg

Do you have a Milton or a Julian Beitel in your research?
My husbands great grandfather was Julian which would put him
in the 1830's to 1850's. His family came from Moravia and
came through the Erie Canal. Does this fit any of your
ancestors? They settled in Illinois on a farm and had 14
children. That is all the information that I have.
Thanks for your time. Dixie

Dixie, your husband's great-grandfather was Julius Theodore Beitel (spelled "Beutel" in earlier generation). Julius (born 1825) married Emma Louisa Troeger in Hinckley IL about 1848. They had 13 children. One boy died very young. The five girls were Agnes, Bertha, Rhoda, Esther and Rachel.
Bertha taught music in Germany. Rhoda was my grandmother. Esther and Rachel married two brothers, Will Morsch and John Morsch, so their children were double first cousins. Your husband must be somewhere in that line.
The earliest Beitel ancestor was Heinrich Beutel /Beitel, the founding father of this geneology site. Julius was a grandson of Heinrich B. I think all the early generations were active Moravians (teachers, missionaries etc), some around Bethlehem and Nazareth PA. Some of the family removed to Illinois and stayed there.
Ashley H Beitel of Moline Illinois wrote up a Heinrich Beitel family tree that shows descendents as far as some born 1950. but it probably is not complete. I have a page that lists the first names of Esther's children and Rachel's children, and some of the children's married names. Some stayed in Illinois, some settled in Wyoming. I have met some of the Morschs living at or near Hinckley--very nice people.
Dixie, if you would like a copy of this family tree, (or some specific info from it) please post a reply to the Geneology page. I have a special interest in Julius' wife, Emma L Troeger, who made an interesting trip on the Penn and Ohio canals when she was a child.

Joseph Henry Beitel and Rebecca Ann Pickrell

Greetings from Colorado.

I am a descendent of Joseph Henry Beitel (1849 - 1917) and his second wife, Rebecca Ann Pickrell (1863 - 1933). I have quite a bit of information on the descendents of that union to share with anyone that is interested. (photos attached of Joseph and Rebecca)

Like others on this board, I have a copy of the manuscript that Ashley Beitel produced around 1957. I'm trying to fill in some gaps and would be interested in exchanging information.

My email address is: t4harrison@rocketweb.net
Teri Harrison
