MADISON, WIS. – Helen Belak, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Middleton Village Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by family.
Helen was born in Youngstown, Ohio on Aug. 21, 1920.
She married Michael Belak on Oct. 9, 1948.
Upon his death in 1965, she re-entered the work force to support their three children. She retired from the State of Ohio School System in 1982.
Helen moved to Madison in 1993 from Youngstown, Ohio to be closer to her family. She lived independently for several years and then with her daughter, Roberta and son-in-law, Jim, until her stay at Middleton Village in 2011.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Ruth Belak of Middleton, Wisconsin and Roberta (Jim) Vellucci of Madison; grandsons, Michael Vellucci of Eagan, Minn. and Domenic Vellucci of Milwaukee; and a sister, Christina Sitko of Ravenna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Belak; her son, Michael Belak; her parents, Dmytro and Mary Sveth; brothers, John and Nick; and sisters, Kathryn, Esther, Ann, Rose, and infant Rose.
Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio where Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband.
