Actually, there have been Belch's in England for many a years. There is even a Shakespearean character by the name of Sir Toby (Tobias) Belch, who was the village idiot in many ways. My Belch history states that Belch is in fact an English surname and that William Belch of Old England is the earliest known English Belch. My history also notes that the original bearer of the name Belch was "probably known for his ability to noisily emit wind through the mouth from the stomach" hence the verb "belch" hope this is helpful...
